Iara had learned to appreciate the life she now had, regardless of the circumstances that led to it. She was a well-known detective who lived a fairly high standard of life, even if her reputation made her something of a divisive figure. She had also learned so much and grown in the years following her first contact with the world outside of Goia Forest. Objectively speaking, she was a far better person now than she used to be. But that didn’t mean she didn’t miss home. The pleasantly warm air was broken up by a cool breeze that smelled distinctly like the sea. Iara took in the air as she walked along the forest trail. Though she wasn’t quite familiar with this particular forest, she did know the ins and outs of navigating the wild, and she knew where to find the best spots. She internally smiled as she felt herself getting closer and closer to her goal, aided by her senses and knowledge. Lo and behold, her prize. A small, hidden beach, unreachable by most and utterly empty. This is what Iara needed. Privacy, a small taste of home and to reminisce on her good memories. Sighing wistfully, she would slowly walk along the beach, taking in the sun and the sea air. The weather was perfect for her, though she didn’t doubt that those from the north would find the heat a bit too imposing with the sun bearing down on them. Finding a tree that offered some good shade, Iara would sit down, staring at the waves and letting her mind drift as her senses were overtaken by all the sounds and smells. She thought briefly about her father; was his spirit within her wolf, in the afterlife, simply snuffed out of existence? Where was he? Akisei

The time was almost here. After millions of years, the time was right to set everything into motion. Everything she had worked for was coming together. That was why she was here in the mortal realm for the first time in millenia. She needed to ensure things sped towards the conclusion that she desired. Being the ruler of hell and repurposing the realm to her needs had taken up most of her time. But now the mortal realm was ripe for the picking. And the most important piece of that was Atsuko. Atsuko. The mortal that had caught the interest of the supreme kai Rumia. Who was the reincarnation of a hero she destroyed long ago. If she strayed down the path of justice, she would become a thorn in her side. She couldn’t just kill her, since Rumia was protecting her. If she got too direct, she’d invoke the entirety of heaven’s wrath. Besides, that wasn’t any fun for the Maiokaishin. She wanted to make Atsuko see things her way. See the universe for what it was. She would start with people Atsuko put herself into contact with. It would be a long coordinated effort. And that was why she chose to meet with Iara. Iara was the perfect target to start out with. The tragedies she had suffered in her life left an opening. An opening that Akisei could use to get close to her. To that end, she picked a human disguise. One that only had a bit of sensible power to it. Akisei would walk into view of the human. She would then pretend to notice Iara for the first time. She walked over to her, rubbing the back of her head and giving a sheepish grin. “Aw man! My secret spot isn’t so secret anymore. I always come here whenever I get something on my mind. I hope I’m not disturbing you here.” Akisei chirped, her warm smile widening. She didn't seem all that upset that her supposed secret spot had been discovered.

So distracted Iara was with her own thoughts, she hardly even noticed when a new smell that suddenly cropped up as another person entered her range. It was only when she walked into her sight that she snapped out of her thoughts, blinking twice in a small amount of confusion as she got her bearings. Another person? Here? They would have to know the forest quite well to be able to find this place, or know how to navigate forests in general. The comment gave Iara a clue. A local, huh? She didn’t seem like a native from first glance, so perhaps simply a city-goer who preferred the sounds of nature to the noises of civilisation. Iara looked at the girl for a moment, expression neutral, though her eyes gave her a naturally harsh look. “I was expecting to be here alone.” She started, pausing for a moment before her face softened into an amicable smile, “But I’m far from opposed to company, especially not when they’re as easy on the eyes as yourself. Please, don’t worry about disturbing me. Why no sit down so we can have a chat? I’m Iara, by the way.”Iara patted down the spot to her left, offering the girl to take it. Whether or not she did, Iara would continue. “Seems we both had the same idea. Nature has a way of letting us clear our heads from all the unwanted noise, doesn’t it? How did you first find this place, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m native to these forests, as you can probably tell, but you seem like someone from the city.” Akisei

Akisei beamed at the other girl. She didn’t seem turned off by the stern demeanor that Iara had displayed before softening up. She didn't seem to notice the subtle flirt that was sent her way. “Really?! Oh! Well um, I wasn’t expecting… yes! I’ll gladly sit next to you!”
Akisei had decided to go with a more cheerful persona. She planned on gradually introducing Iara to different sides of this personality she had taken on. Taking things slowly was the best method to getting close to the mortal. She sat down right next to her, pressing her back against the tree. She stretched her legs out, pressing her palms against the sand.
“It really is beautiful here, like the first time I found this place. I don’t know the forest that well. I just walk to clear my head. There was one day in particular where I just… needed to be away from everyone. And everything, I guess.”
Akisei sighed, closing her eyes. Her body had tensed up considerably. She took a couple of deep breaths. She leaned her head back against the tree, taking in the salty air.
“I walked all the way to the forest, and then walked some more. Eventually, I came across the beach here. It was nice, peaceful, quiet. Just listening to the serene sound of the waves… I’ve been coming here on and off ever since. Although my trips aren’t normally as long as the first time I was here.”
Akisei opened her eyes, looking over at the other woman. “I’m Kiara. I’ve been a city girl all my life. Satan City girl. Did you come here to clear your head from things bothering you? Or did you just feel like coming here? If you don’t mind me asking, I mean.”
“Kiara” asked the other girl, staring into Iara’s eyes. She made sure to keep eye contact with the other girl, most of the time. She did timidly glance away every so often. She was careful not to leer at Iara’s body. Kiara didn’t think that the other girl would appreciate being looked at in that manner.

Seeing the girl all excited did soothe Iara’s mood a touch, the warmth of another easing her turbulent thoughts. The girl’s reaction caused her to smile just a bit. How endearing. The detective stared out to the ocean as her companion sat down and made herself comfortable, appreciating the company she now had. As she spoke, however, Iara’s eyes would turn to her. As she spoke, Iara took note of her body language. The tensing up, as if holding something in, and her tone of voice. Almost instantly, the woman’s expression turned to a softer, more caring look. It was in Iara’s nature to be concerned for others. Before she knew it, she had her hand on the girl’s shoulder, her formerly harsh eyes revealing an empathetic side. “Easy, there. Easy.” She said, voice taking on a softer note than before, “You all right? Recalling hard memories can be taxing. I know firsthand. I’m a fairly good listener, though. If you’d like to talk about what’s on your mind, I’d be more than happy to listen.”She punctuated her point with a reassuring smile, demonstrating her willingness to listen to the stranger. Iara eventually removed her hand as she relaxed, continuing to listen to her. Her comment on the forest made her mentally pause; the forests of the Southern Islands were dense and virtually impenetrable by those inexperienced in navigating the wild. For a girl from the city to happen upon this place was… “Well, you’re lucky you’re alive. I speak from experience when I say that these forests are dangerous. If you get lost, it could well be days before you get out, and a lot can happen in these few days.”She left the details vague. Hopefully, the girl understood to not wander into forests without knowledge or training in the future. They most certainly weren’t your fun little field trip. At Kiara’s question, Iara paused, once more looking out to the sea as she thought on it. She almost gave the impression of being unwilling to answer before she finally spoke. “My father. He was murdered trying to protect our family.” She said; a half-truth, she didn’t quite want to open up about the entirety of the situation just yet, “I was born here in our tribe, but I live in Satan City now, same as you. I do occasionally come here, though. It helps me feel closer to him, and I often wonder where he is. My tribe would say he has become a spirit of nature, helping the land prosper, but I’ve always been more of a sceptic in that regard.”“But regardless of where he is, I still want to bring those responsible to justice… whatever that word means.” She sighed, brushing her hair out of her eyes before looking at Kiara, “It’s why I became a detective. I hope you’re not here to report a crime, though. I’m off-duty at the moment.”She winked with a mischievous smile. Akisei

Kiara looked at the other girl in surprise as she felt her shoulder being touched. She looked down at the hand that was grasping her, then turned her eyes to look at the dark-skinned woman. Iara would be able to feel the smaller woman relax under her touch, her muscles becoming less tense.
“Thanks. Talking about my experiences is hard. I’ve visited a counselor over it before. It’s really hard to open up to someone who’s paid to listen to you though. I hope you don’t mind being my second therapist, heh…”
Kiara gave the other girl a nervous smile. “Oh… is the forest really that dangerous? I have a good sense of direction, so I wasn’t worried. Are there bears in there?”
Kiara looked away, her gaze turning towards the ocean. She tucked her knees towards her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs. She looked at the waves crashing against the shore, silently listening Iara recount her own experiences. She laughed bitterly when Iara brought up she was a detective. Although the wink did crack a smile, if only for a moment.
“I’m sure you would have done a great job on my case. But it’s long since buried and over with. My mother was killed in a drunk driving accident. She was coming home from a business trip in East city. The guy who took her life only got a manslaughter charge. I almost lost my voice in the courtroom during the proceedings. Only manslaughter… I just…”
Kiara shook her head, then rested her chin on one of her knees. “I don’t hate the guy. It wasn’t his intention to kill my mother. But surely one life should be worth another life, right? I don’t know what justice is, but that wasn’t it.”
Kiara then looked up, her gaze watching the clouds roll by. The wind was making them move quickly, the puffy white formations changed quickly as a result.
“Iara, do you believe in the afterlife? That there is a heaven and a hell?" I'd like to think there's at least a heaven. I'm not keen on the idea of Hell existing though. Can you believe in one but not the other?

Iara was glad to feel Kiara relax under her touch. She knew how well such a simple gesture could work wonders when times were tough; the detective was used to having the world be against her. It was important to show those grieving that they had someone on their side. “Not sure how good a therapist I’d make, but I’m certainly willing to be there for you.” She gave her a small smile, “For whatever that’s worth.”On the subject matter of the forest, Iara turned serious once again. “No bears, but there are jaguars, snakes, wasps, spiders, caymans, and other dangerous creatures. What you most have to worry about is the microscopic threats, though. If you cut yourself on something, all sorts of microorganisms will have a field day and infect your wound. It could well spell death to the unprepared. To say nothing of the poisonous plants you might tangle with.”Kiara’s body language seemed quite reserved when thinking on what happened, especially when put next to the seemingly cheerful girl, which was why she was happy when Kiara cracked a small smile. She listened in sympathy as Kiara continued to speak, nodding at her words. That sounded incredibly painful, and similar to her own experiences… “One life worth another…” Iara sighed, “I’ve worked on enough cases to know that matters are rarely as clean-cut as that. But regardless of that, I’m sorry about what happened to you. To sit through court proceedings and have that happen must have been difficult.”Once more, her hand was on Kiara’s shoulder, though this time she leaned in a bit more. A show of warmth and empathy. “Hmm.” Iara furrowed her brows in thought. The afterlife… was there one? “I’m not sure. It’s not something I ever properly think about; I’d rather focus on improving myself here and now and accomplishing my goals. Whatever comes after I die can come as it pleases. There’s nothing I can do about it save for becoming stronger for the sake of those I’ve lost, and to help those in the here and now.”Perhaps not the answer Kiara was looking for, but Iara wasn’t the type to lie to make others feel better. Kiara gave the other girl a slight smile. “That’s worth a lot more than you think it does Iara. Thank you.”
She sounded like she meant it to. Although the smile disappeared when Iara mentioned the perils that existed in the woods. Kiara’s face paled.
“Eh?! Seriously?! I mean, I’m very careful and haven’t gotten a cut in a long time. But there’s really all that in these forests?! I had no idea! I mean Jaguars are one thing but all that poisonous stuff?! Ugh!”
Kiara shivered at the thought of it. It was hard pulling off a scared look. Mostly because she had nothing to fear for millions of years. Kiara could count the number of people alive who could give her a run for her money on one hand. Earth dangers of this level meant nothing to her. But for all intents and purposes, she had to appear at least a little wary of things.
Kiara gave an appreciative look when the other girl expressed her sympathies towards her plight. She leaned into the girl's touch and found herself pressing her body against the other women. A slight blush crossed her cheeks when she realized how close they were. Their attire wasn’t exactly the most conservative, to say the least. She looked away, back out towards the ocean.
“That’s a good way of looking at it. All we can do is give things our all, now and in the future. But I really do hope there is one. Like I said though, if there is a heaven, then there must be a hell, right? But I think even that can be a good thing. If that makes sense. There are some people who the justice system can’t properly punish. So I’d like to think there’s at least one judge who will make the right call, you know? I don’t want people to suffer, but actions have to have consequences.”

Iara smiled and nodded; she was glad that Kiara was open to airing things out like this. The damage of keeping everything bottled in was dangerous and had the potential to destroy a person’s psyche. Although Iara held no impure thoughts with their proximity, she couldn’t help but notice Kiara’s blush… and quickly realising their positions. Two scantily clad women alone on the beach, one leaning on the other. The context could be easily misconstrued, not that Iara cared. Her muscular, powerful body did provide firm support for the girl that leaned on her, and Iara was more than willing to stay like this if it made her feel better… and because having a cute girl leaning on you is always a plus. She stole a surreptitious glance at Kiara’s body before winking at her but otherwise said nothing for the moment. As Kiara spoke, Iara nodded, attentively listening to the girl expose some of her thoughts on the matter of heaven and hell. She did take note of the fact that she seemed more focused on hell, even if she didn’t obviously make it sound like that. A perfect arbiter, punishment for the misdeeds in life, and the inadequacy of the justice system. Iara considered Kiara’s words carefully, furrowing her brow in thought for a short while before finally speaking. “Who knows?” She began, “Should this perfect judge, jury, and executioner exist, would they always make the choice you agree with? Should any one person hold that much power over so many others, and punish as they see fit? Does one person know all the answers and can make the proper call? What they might consider fitting may not be what you agree with.”“Our current justice system concludes that the answer to those questions is no. It’s why our system exists in the first place, to prevent one person from wielding too much power and potentially misusing it. Of course, in practice, the corruption and bureaucracy of the whole matter mars that entire thing, but the idea is there. It’s just unfortunate that incompetent people are wielding it… but what do you think would happen if the one who holds absolute power became corrupted?”Iara sighed, looking out to the sea. “I only hope that whatever arbiter resides in hell has good advisers. The task of being the sole person to dole out punishment sounds soul-draining. It’s an unenviable position.” Akisei

Kiara noticed the way that Iara looked over her body. She had made sure to make her form very appealing. She hadn’t gone overkill with the bust, but it was still very noticeable. And while it wasn’t as nearly as toned as the amazoness next to her, it didn’t mean that she wasn’t built weakly either. Not to mention she had curves in all the right places. Of course, she wasn’t the ruler of hell right now, so using sex appeal aggressively wasn’t exactly an option here. Still, she leaned closer against the other woman, supporting herself against the muscled frame.
“I don’t think you can apply our standards to the methods used on the other side. If it exists. They likely aren’t even human. They’re likely something we mortals wouldn’t be able to comprehend. No human could ever handle that burden. Likewise, we can’t apply corruption in the same way either. I seriously doubt you can bribe someone on the other side. Death is the great equalizer: rich or poor, it’s all the same once you go over there. At least, that’s how I feel. The Egyptians believed that if you buried someone next to some worldly possessions that you took them with you into the afterlife. But that’s never made sense to me.”
Kiara chuckled, giving the other girl a sheepish look. “I’m sorry, here I go rambling on again. I have a major in Theology, so all this stuff is fascinating to me. I’d normally be worried that I’m boring you, but that’s better than being depressed in a conversation. My therapist told me that I have to focus on every bit of good that I can. It makes the bad more bearable when it happens. “Face the world with a smile Kiara!”
Kiara did an impersonation of someone, right down to a deeper voice. She chuckled again, looking at the other girl cheerfully.

Iara held a respectful silence as she listened to Kiara talk about her views, looking at her as she spoke and paying close attention. It seemed she really did believe in one superior entity that would judge all… not an uncommon position, though one that didn’t quite fall in line with her knowledge and experiences. “Perhaps. I, however, have been told many times that people like me couldn’t comprehend modern society. That the dealings happening would fly right over the head of a tribeswoman like me.” Iara let slip some disdain, “I’ve found that to be nonsense. It was a different point of view, certainly, but not incomprehensible and above me like they claimed it to be. That’s all it boils down to, really: different points of view. Is any single one truly the absolute correct one?”“Corruption is a tricky thing too. Bribes are one thing, but someone committing atrocities out of hatred or a feeling of superiority is a tale as old as time. One could say that this entity is free of such emotions, but that is equally as disturbing to me.”Iara smiled at Kiara, shaking her head, “Oh, it’s fine, dear. Discussions such as these are important. Like I said, not one person holds the entire truth, so exchanging ideas is a great way to gain a new perspective and broaden your knowledge. And it’s like you said, talking about depressing things all day isn’t a good idea. Big difference between venting out your baggage and wallowing in misery.”She smiled at Kiara, looking at her for a moment before her eyes gained that telltale glint of mischief. Positioning herself in a way that allowed her jacket to slowly slide off and reveal more of her firm physique, she would speak. “So, I take it you like what you see? Don’t think I didn’t catch your blush.” She said, chuckling, “No need to be shy about staring, honey. I’ve worked quite hard to get this body, so I don’t mind an admirer. Especially when they’re as pretty as yourself.”Iara winked at her, grinning. Akisei

Kiara looked at the other woman with curiosity. “You’ve mentioned the word tribe a couple of times. Did you grow up in a native-like culture? Similar to the groups that live near Korren’s Tower? They’re just as capable as understanding the legal system like anyone else. We’re all still human: it’s not like comparing us to a god. I think that’s amazing, coming to the city after living like that.”
Kiara frowned at the type of corruption Iara brought up. “Like I said, if those entities existed, you probably can’t even comprehend how they think. They likely escape the weaknesses that we have. It’s like… do you know that Blue and orange morality is? Basically, it’s someone who views something in such an alien way that it’s impossible to judge them by our standards. I think in a fair… world I suppose, that the afterlife would be governed by such beings. I hope so anyway…”
Kiara mumbled, looking a little embarrassed. Even though Iara mentioned that talking about less depressing things was okay, she gave the impression that maybe she was feeling bad for getting excited. Although that embarrassment was nothing compared to the blush she sported when Iara called her out for looking. She swallowed, looking down at the sand.
“I’m sorry! It’s just… it really is a nice bod… er! I’m not trying to hit on you! I… huh?”
Kiara looked back towards Iara, making sure to keep eye contact. Her blush was still there, but she forced herself to look at the other girl. “You think I’m pretty? Really?”

Iara nodded. It was a common question; after all, it wasn’t every day a tribeswoman became a renowned detective. “Yup. I was born in the jungles of Guarana Island as part of the Goia Tribe. I was always a curious girl, wandering around exploring the forest and finding out everything there was to know. Naturally, I became interested when these pale as milk outsiders started visiting us. One thing led to another, and now I’m a detective. It’s also why I look the way I do; people from the continent wouldn’t be able to handle the heat and the jungles down here.”Hmm. It seemed Kiara was convinced of the notion that this entity was incomprehensible by their standards. She thought for a bit before simply shrugging. “Well, I suppose we’ll find out when we die, no?”Arguing abstract notions was entertaining, but they clearly had very differing views on matters. Much better to focus on teasing the cute girl now. With a smirk, she would watch as Kiara fumbled all over her words, stopping in her tracks at the compliment she gave her. Chuckling, she would take her finger and boop her straight on the nose. What an endearing girl! “I absolutely do. I could go into detail about why you’re so pretty if you’d like.” She said, smiling, “And having such a beautiful girl cuddling up to me like this is rather pleasant. It’s a shame you’re not hitting on me, though. I would really love it if you did.” She winked at her once more, “Say, what’s your number, dearie? I’d very much like to see you again, and I’ve reason to believe you’d love to see me as well. For various reasons.”Deciding to be a bit bold, Iara would lean forward, her face quite close to Kiara’s to the point where she’d be able to feel the taller woman’s breathing. She held a confident, easy smile, very much secure of herself in this situation and enjoying seeing this poor girl flustered. Akisei

“The Goia tribe?! Really?!” Kiara’s eyes almost seemed to shine with excitement. “Oh! I’ve read a bit about you! You’re naturists, so that’s why the majority of you live your lives out in the jungle. I didn’t know that they sometimes ventured out! That’s so cool!”
Kiara then realized she was probably being a little too excited. She mumbled an apology and backed off slightly. She nodded at Iara’s words when she brought up what would happen when they died. There were some things that you could only discover at the end.
She blushed profusely when Iara made her intentions very clear. She was coming onto her hard. Honestly the kai hadn’t expected this to be that easy. It honestly caught her a little off guard. Still, this was perfect. Kiara swallowed, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
“Are you asking me out on a date? I mean, not that I’d be against it. But this is really fast… unless that's how you like to do things… that’s… uh… here!”
Kiara practically squeaked. She frantically took out a cell phone from her pocket, unlocking it and bringing up her number.
“Here! Put me in your contacts! We can um… talk and meet up whenever you want. I’d love to get to know you better!”
And just like that, Iara was about to unwittingly put a God’s number into her contacts.

Iara shot her a smile, nodding at her words, “It seems you’ve done your research, Kiara. Yes, we eschew technology and generally don’t have much contact with outsiders. It wasn’t until my lifetime that we had proper dealings with them, and I’m the only one I know who’s ever left the forest to live on the continent.”Iara chuckled at Kiara’s reaction; seemed this girl had no idea what to do when someone came onto her this hard. It was quite entertaining to see her stumble all over herself. Fortunately, she still had the presence of mind to realise what was going on. “Sure am. Dates are a great way of getting to know one another, no?” She said with a reassuring smile, “I happen to know of some nice places we could go to eat at. Don’t worry; I can pay for our meal. Consider it a treat. Oh, and you should get my phone number as well!”Reaching into her bag, Iara pulled out her own phone, quickly registering Kiara’s phone number on her contacts and showing her own number before putting it away. After that was done, she stretched out her legs with a grunt. She looked out to the sea for a few moments before looking back at Kiara with a smile. “Well, much as I enjoyed your company, I really must go. I can’t shirk my duties forever, after all.” She chuckled, “It was nice meeting you. Do expect a phone call. I’d love to get to know you as well, Kiara.”Her smile had an underlying characteristic to it not previously present, but it was as of now unidentifiable. On that note, Iara would stand up, walking back into the forest while giving one last wave to Kiara. As she walked, however, her expression turned pensive. She considered the interaction, the ease with which Kiara accepted everything. That on its own wasn’t cause for concern, but the thing that the detective was hung up on was how this city-goer somehow found this spot without any sort of experience or training venturing the wild, and how they just so happened to meet at the same time and place. Iara frowned. “I don’t believe it. Not for a minute.” Akisei
