Photina
The Light of Hegemon
Profile:
Character Name: Photina
Nicknames: "The Light of Hegemon" (Self-proclaimed)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Race: Elfen
Age: 18
Birthdate: July 4th, 1,272
Personality:
Likes:
[*] She values being able to unify people regardless of their standing, and is appreciative when people are able to take that step.
[*] She takes pride in her element, knowing that it is a valuable one on Hegemon -- but she holds all of the other elements in very high regard as well, even Darkness.
[*] She genuinely loves her homeworld of Hegemon, and it is why she acts to better it.
Dislikes:
[*] She dislikes when people are close-minded, and unable to change or adapt. Viewing stifled growth as entirely wasted potential.
[*] While she doesn't mind someone taking pride in the element they were born with, she thinks there is a very fine line between that and viewing it as better than all the others; each is an important part of the cycle, and Hegemon would suffer if any one of them were lost.
[*] She despises wedges and barriers between people, viewing that as something that only brings about ruin.
Strengths:
[*] Photina holds great ambitions, and very little -- if anything -- can deter her from striving towards it.
[*] She has a lot of patience, and will view even a small step forward as a necessary and advantageous one.
[*] Photina understands that failure does not necessarily mean defeat, and instead tries to learn from those setbacks. Because a second wind can change the course, so long as you don't lose hope.
Weaknesses:
[*] Photina can be a little stubborn as a result of her ambitions. While she has genuinely good intentions, she can come off as zealous, and would be left wondering why someone would question her integrity.
[*] She can sometimes lose herself in her work, bringing herself some difficulty when it comes to being able to rest or have a bit of fun.
[*] She is utterly incapable of being inconspicuous because of her element; with her hair always reflecting light and glowing bright in a variety of colors.
Vices: N/A
Photina is rather lively, shining much like the very element she was born with. She is fond of her own appearance, as even among the Light Elfen she is a little unusual in how her element has taken shape. Rather than viewing this as a negative, she wears it proudly. As a result of traveling all across Hegemon, she has been able to take in the varied cultures of each tribe, and she loves the respective differences of each one.
Yet at the same time, she laments that they are all so distant from each other. It is why she hopes to one day convince her people to set all of the horrible things of the past aside, so that they can focus on the here and now. She dreams of a future where the Elfen are able to come together in a far more complex society, believing that when they can accomplish this, they would truly begin to flourish.
Curiously, she holds no animosity to the Darkness Elfen, despite what happened to her own specific clan of people.
Appearance:
Height: 5'8" (173cm)
Weight: 141 lbs (64kg)
Hair Color: Prismatic
Eye Color: Prismatic
Face Claim Name: Diamond
Face Claim Origin: Houseki no Kuni
Photina stands at a modest height, and has an average weight for her body-type, which is more athletic than anything, but holds little muscle definition. Her skin color is a pale white, while her hair and eyes are both a prismatic color, because of how they reflect light and glow.
Her three sizes are noted as such: "B: 84cm; W:56cm; H:88cm.", this gives her a curvy body with a moderate chest size.
She wears an ornate black dress with "puffy" shoulders. With black sleeves that end around her elbows, with a black feather like design that blossoms out further around her arms. She also wears long white gloves, with the parts around her hands being colored black.
Her skirt is of an average length, reaching down to just above her knees. With exception to the front-right side of her skirt, which is cut much higher and further accentuates her legs. The inside of her skirt is white. In terms of legwear, she has black thigh-high boots that reach just above her knees, and underneath that she also has pantyhose that go just a bit higher than her boots.
Her boots are also high-heeled, which do little to disturb her balance as she is capable of flight.
Finally, the back of her dress has an ornately cut hole.

History:
Family: Adoptive Father: Elnur, Adoptive Mother: Lucasta
Home world: Hegemon
Starting planet: Hegemon
Home Town: Hegemon Wilderness
Humble Origins
Photina was born on the first month of the Hegemon Calendar; the Month of Light. Just the same as any other Light Elfen was. The rings around the planet glow bright and strong, and then a tiny droplet falls to the planet surface. Where it impacts, a new Light Elfen is born... The nomadic people grew in number, even if just by one for that year. The newborn child is quickly taken in by two of the Light Elfen. A man named Elnur, and a woman named Lucasta. She was soon granted the name Photina by her adoptive parents... And she was noted for having a particularly strong affinity to her element.
Or at least, that was the belief. Due to the color of her eyes and hair. The Light Elfen had no permanent settlement to call home. But that did not mean they were incapable of providing for their young. They had become a hardy people, well adjusted to the wilderness of their home planet. If any could be truly called experts of their world, it would be these few people. The ones that spent all their days traveling, and settling in new locations. Photina's childhood was not left without the excitement of discovery; she grew up always being able to experience new and wonderful things.
And as she grew older, she was trained just as they all were. To defend herself should it be necessary, to survive the wilds, and to provide for herself and for the others. It was certainly a more difficult life compared to those in the cities, but Photina found it to be a very fulfilling one. But of course, she would get a taste of life within the cities as well; as each month was dedicated to the various elements that comprised each tribe of Elfen. The earliest that she could remember was...
The Month of Gales
The Rite of Nature; the month dedicated to the winds, and to the Nuada Tribe. Reaching Loft was no easy task, and took a number of preparations. But the Light Elfen had long since gathered the methods they need to enter the city proper. A privilege which was not extended to just anyone; but there was respect given to the people that had been nearly wiped out entirely as a result of the past. They would not be denied entry when they used their light to signal the city. Photina was able to experience a flying city; which was both frightening and beautiful. She was certainly more used to being on solid ground.
But as her nerves settled, she was able to take in the Festival of the Breeze; an amazing display of the Nuada Tribe, which showcased their ability to control the wind. The people of the Nuada Tribe were kind; and rather free-spirited. Photina was surprised at how easily many of them could keep up with her. She mused upon the fact that they really were just like the wind at her back.
And no matter how many festivals she participated in ever since that very first one, the wind was as strong as ever. During each Rite of Nature, she gives thanks to their efforts. For without them, there would be no air on Hegemon...
The Month of Stone
The Rite of Nature. The month dedicated to the ground that all life was nurtured upon. The Nerthus Tribe made their home within grand mountains which held their city; Zeal. A towering monument that in her opinion was no less impressive than Loft was. The Festival of Earth comprised of a feast, and then of course the Dance of Stone. The collaborative construction of a statue by all the people of the Nerthus Tribe. Though she held no particular power with their element, she was still given the opportunity to participate a small part to the construction of this statue.
It was impressive to see just how much endurance these Elfen had. Many of them able to last at least as long as Photina could have, if not longer. They were a hardy people just like the natural fortress that they called home. Just like the mountains that held them all aloft. Soon enough, the construction is completed.
They were all given the time to enjoy the finished efforts, before the statue was then deconstructed and returned to the earth. Another grand construction just like this would be built in another Month of Stone. During each Rite of Nature, she gives thanks to the Nerthus Tribe.
The Month of Spark
The Rite of Embers. The month dedicated to that which gives warmth to all life. The capital city of Enberr was wildly different from both Loft and Zeal, and so was it true of the Nuska Tribe. The Festival of the Hearth was also one of the most industrious that Photina had ever experienced; while the Dance of Stone involved the construction of a statue, the Nuska instead held a competition. All were called upon to forge their very best weapons, so that one could be crowned the King or Queen of Blades. A high honor in which the winner could forge masterpieces for the Elders of their Tribe.
Photina was allowed to behold the creation of these magnificent pieces. With no powers of fire to call her own, she could not participate in the efforts. But she could nonetheless watch and learn from them. It was amazing to see just how far these people had come. And of course, it proved useful to be able to see so many! Because some of the Nuska Tribe were content to forge weapons that the Light Elfen could use to defend themselves, and to hunt with.
Even Photina had received such gifts. For each Rite of Embers, she gives thanks to the Nuska Tribe. Without them, there would be no warmth on Hegemon, and the loss of their ingenuity and craft would be devastating.
The Month of Tides
The Rite of Water. The month dedicated to water. The oceans, the seas, and the rain. The Nammu Tribe made their home on islands, where water flows freely through their city. The city of Ura was one of the most beautiful that she had seen. These were nothing short of artistic souls. But they were also a proud people that loved the open sea. It was showcased as such in their Festival of the Seas. Once again, Photina was unable to participate in these grand competitions, but watching them unfold was no less impressive.
Fifty mile swims around the islands. Underwater combat that proved difficult to watch from above the surface of the water, and of course, a sheer display of one's skill in controlling their element. It was also here that Photina received another gift; the outfit that was specifically tailor made for her. It was the Nammu Tribe's way of showing their appreciation and respect for the Light Elfen. She was also able to enjoy the feast, which was open to all in the city.
During each Rite of Water, she gives thanks to the Nammu Tribe. Without all that they do, there would be no water, and no life.
The Month of Frost
The Rite of Ice. The Boreas Tribe made their home within the snow-blanketed regions of Hegemon. Hyperborea proved to be the coldest city that she had ever entered. But it was no less impressive to experience. A city made of solid ice was not the average experience for anyone. Though the rest of the Light Elfen had gotten used to it over the years. It was entirely new for Photina. Much like the Nammu Tribe, the Boreas people were artistic. Creating grand and detailed sculptures, especially as part of their Festival of the Ice. There was also Ice Fishing, and beyond even that...
A piece of their history, remembered even to this very day. The traditional dances of the Tuath, which all Elfen originated from. She had never expected to be able to learn such dances and participate in them. But it was a wondrous experience nonetheless. It reminded her that they should respect their roots just as much as the elements. Though the harsh cold of the region made her long for warmth, she also appreciated that it brought about unity. Many of the Boreas Tribe were understanding, and did what they could to ease the chill for her, and the rest of the Light Elfen.
It was great to be able to see all that the Boreas Tribe did. Without them, heat would overrun their world, and life would be little more than ash and bone. That is why she gives thanks to them at each Rite of Ice.
The Month of Shade
This was the first time that Photina was unable to meet the tribe or see the city that was responsible for this element and this month. But nonetheless, the Light Elfen joined in the somber reflection that the Erebos Tribe held. For them, it was just as important to reflect on everything that had happened. What drove their numbers to be this small, and why they are all so... Fractured.
Yes. That was how Photina saw it. Each tribe was capable of amazing things, all had wonderful displays, and each of their elements were critical. It was just as true for Darkness. So many nights had proved calming for her. To be able to see the starry sky before drifting off to sleep. It was comforting in it's own way. Sometimes it was exactly what you needed.
But it also made her think about everything she had experienced up to this point. Why were the Elfen so divided? Though the Light Elfen were welcomed by all the Tribes, the division between her people was clear. Almost as if they feared each other, or what might happen if they became violent with each other.
Photina never called for war. But as she lies there, taking in the night sky... She wishes that all Elfen could be more unified. If they were capable of so many things individually -- how great could they become if they could finally become one?
To move from tribes, and to become a much larger society than before.
That was when her ambitions began to grow.
The Month of Light
Photina had been around to experience many Months of Light. The Festival of Dawn was a celebration of new beginnings, and it was especially true for the Light Elfen; as their numbers would grow by one! A new member of their nomadic group... And soon, they would be experiencing all of the same things that she did.
Photina had thus decided that as this was the month of new beginnings... It was also time to usher in a new beginning for all of her people. One of unity.
She had decided that one way or another, no matter how long it takes, or what obstacles may be in her way, she would convince the Tribes that it is time repair the fractures, to remove the barriers between all of them. In her mind, the Tribes had been around long enough. Each of their cultures and traditions should be absorbed into one mass. They would no longer be the "Tribes of Elfen"
They would simply be the Elfen. How would she make that happen, though?
It was an excellent question, as this is where her story begins...
Race Bonuses:
Environmental Overdrive:
None in the universe carry as much control over nature as the Elfen do, and as such all Techniques with the "Elemental" tag and the element that matches the user's birth element automatically have 15% more of the user's Ki applied to the total.
Note, however; that this charge increase can only be used three times per thread!
[Cannot be applied to the Technique granted by the "Force of Nature" Racial Bonus]
Element Infusion:
Natural born prodigies with the elements of existence, Elfen are capable of infusing their birth element into any Technique they've trained themselves to use effectively. Any Technique that has been mastered can have the "Elemental" tag applied to it for free, allowing an Elfen to visually and mechanically apply their element to all manner of techniques.
[Cannot be applied to "Special" Techniques such as Spirit Bomb, Mystic Form, etc.]
Roleplay Example:
Photina had just finished climbing up a tree, standing tall on one of the strong branches, with a hand held out on the trunk of the tree to steady herself. From this height, she was able to see far, taking in the beautiful landscapes of Hegemon. She always loved being able to climb up high and see afar... And just imagine what things might be like if she could coordinate her people to work together.
How might her world change? What shape would it take? Would a grand city be built here, where all Elfen are welcome? She smiles softly to herself, as her mind races with all the possibilities. Eventually, she hears a voice call out to her from below.
"Photina! What are you doing?"
She looks down at the person calling to her, realizing that it's her father. She hops down from the branch, landing in a crouch before then straightening out.
"Taking in the sights, father."
He crosses his arms, grinning lightly.
"Daydreaming, more like.", he responds.
Photina can't really refute what he said, remaining silent... But she knows that she is not being lectured or chastised. Elnur was an understanding man. At least for the most part.
"Now, listen... You've told me and your mother all about your dream. Unifying the Elfen -- it's not going to be an easy task, you know. They respect us... But you'll have to prove you can actually do that kind of thing. It's going to be filled with obstacles."
He begins explaining to her.
Photina gives a calm nod. "I understand. I still feel that I should do this, though. I can just feel that we have so much more potential, but it's being wasted right now."
Elnur sighs a little. "Just as long as you know that this really will be your greatest challenge yet. I can't stop you from doing as you please... Just be careful, okay?"
Photina then gently hugs her father. "I will. I promise."
Elnur returns the hug. The embrace is held between the two for a little while longer, before it is finally broken and they take a small step back from each other.
"Now. Your mother has probably finished cooking. We should head back."
Elnur insists, and then turns to return to their camp. Photina turns for a moment, looking back at the sight she was watching before... Then she turns her gaze back to the direction of the camp, and begins to walk back to it. Right now, she was little more than a nomad with a dream that was larger than life.
Perhaps one day, all of that would become something more.
