Iara sat at her vanity while she finished applying the last of her make-up and tidying up her hair. She gave herself a once-over, ensuring everything was in place before she even thought about leaving her apartment. She had put on a small amount of lipgloss and eyeliner, but she left herself alone apart from that. She was already quite the looker, after all, and she had no desire to overdo it. Standing up, she would adjust her outfit one last time before exiting her apartment, grabbing a purse along with her phone. On the way out, she texted Kiara. “On my way now. Try not to be late~. ;)”She had been thinking about Kiara: she was up to something, that much was certain, but she had no way of knowing what at the moment. These meetings would be a good way of getting to know Kiara more, and potentially glean the truth behind that cute face of hers. They were going to a place called Pobre Juan, a lesser-known but absolutely wonderful restaurant that served food traditional to the Southern Islands. One could expect all manners of tropical ingredients with an assortment of excellent steaks mixed in. It was only a five-minute walk from her apartment, so she went on foot. As was typically the case, she tended to draw eyes with her more daring outfits and confident gait. She would be lying if she said she disliked the attention, but some part of her wished that others would express themselves through clothing a bit more. She looked at most people and saw that they tended to stick to trends; nothing wrong with that, but she highly doubted they all wanted to conform. Putting aside her musings on the psychology behind social trends and their adherents, Iara would take the corner to a small park. The trees made for nice shade as one walked through, and there were a few restaurants and stores to visit at the end, one of which was Pobre Juan. Stopping by the entrance, Iara took a seat outside, crossing her legs as she waited. She had arrived a bit early, as she often preferred to, so she knew she would have to wait a small bit. Akisei

Iara would get a text back. “Don’t worry, I’ll be on time!” Meanwhile in another part of the city, a small apartment room had recently been purchased. Said small apartment room was barely furnished with anything. There wasn’t any kind of furniture, apart from the four poster bed in the bedroom. There was a refrigerator, but it didn’t have anything in it. There were no pictures, decorations, anything of the sort. Of course, the occupant could always change that with a snap of her fingers. “Kiara” was lying on her back on the bed, her eyes closed. She was fortunate to have left hell in capable hands. She had spent years training the Oni there, and even had a successor who she had groomed for years. She had spent countless years organizing the underworld, tailoring it to her purposes. Now she was beginning to expand her operation to the mortal realm. She had already made significant progress with Lucy, a demon. It wasn’t that hard to push a demon towards darkness though. Her current target, Iara, was going to require a bit more patience. But she had plenty of that to spare. She closed her eyes, mentally contacting her chief Oni in hell. < “Youkari, give me a progress report. How is Belia doing?”> < “Well, she’s doing everything as told. Everything is going fine and nothing is amiss! Yep, everything is… pfft! Hahahah! Oh who am I kidding?! Your daughter is as whimsical as ever! But she hasn’t torn a hole into the mortal realm, and things are clicking along, despite her questionable-ass antics. I’d question her methods, but hey, they’re getting results.”> Akisei sighed, rubbing her forehead with her temples. “I figured as such. That girl has been cooped up there for too long, and doesn’t have much restraint.” < “Tell me about it! If you wanted stability, you should have just left me in charge.”> < “So you could use my authority to get your revenge on that being in the lowest levels of hell? You and I both know that you would have taken liberties with that position. Belia knows better than to mess with things important to my plans.”> < “Haha! You got me! Can’t blame a Oni for trying though.”> Akisei chuckled. < ”Well, I have a date to go to. I expect a more complete progress report later tonight.”> < "Roger that! Say, can I claim this human’s soul when you lead her to hell? If she’s caught you interest then she must be quite the catch.”> < ”If she doesn’t live up to my expectations, you can do as you wish with her.”> < ”Hell yeah!”> With that, Kiara broke the connection, she stood up, conjuring a mirror to float in front of her with a snap. She rubbed her chin, looking at herself curiously. “Now then, what would an innocent girl like Kiara wear to a date? Hmmm… this should work…”
Kiara was punctual to the date. She arrived exactly on time. What she was wearing was rather casual by comparison. Although the outfit showed off plenty of her legs. Kiara waved excitedly as she saw Iara, jogging over to her. She let out a gasp as she saw what she was wearing. “Oh wow! You look amazing! I wish I had something that amazing to wear. I feel underdressed...” Kiara broke off, a slight blush on her face as she looked down at the ground.

As Iara waited for Kiara to arrive, she thought about what tactics to use, how her approach should be, and what she should do in reaction to any new information learned. Kiara was smart and manipulative enough to play the part of an innocent girl… or was projecting some part of her onto her façade. She doubted the latter, though. She did know, however, that Kiara did hold some strong opinions. Whether or not it was part of her façade was up for debate, but she would have the opportunity to test that out soon… But that still left the matter of just how she would get Kiara to expose herself (not in that way, your pervert!). Apart from one theory, Kiara’s front seemed to be free of any sort of crack she could exploit. With that in mind, she would likely be able to tell if Iara tried to pull a sneaky. The best tactic would be to pretend to play into her hand, not going too far but also not pulling back completely, and seeing just what she intended for Iara. She had no more time to think, though. She could see Kiara arriving in the distance, looking rather cutesy. Iara stood up as Kiara jogged over to her, giving her an easy and confident smile as they met. “Glad to see you’re here on time, Kiara.” She said, chuckling as Kiara mentioned their outfits, “Oh, don’t think too hard on it. I like to fill my wardrobe with more daring options, and besides, you pull off that look wonderfully.”Indeed, Kiara looked endearing in her outfit. As a matter of fact, dressing up all formal wouldn’t quite suit Kiara, she found. Approaching the door to the restaurant, she would open it and gestured for her to go in, “After you.” She said with a wink. Assuming she did go in, she would approach the greeter and speak to him in a confident manner, like she had done this many times before. “Good afternoon. Reservation for Iara.”“Good afternoon, madam! Let’s see here… ah, here it is! We’re always happy to have you back, Miss Iara. I must say, it’s unusual of you to bring someone else, though.”“She’s special enough to warrant it.”She shot a mischievous smirk at Kiara as one of the waiters led them to the table. The restaurant was quiet and warm like the Southern Islands but had an air of modern sophistication to it. As Iara sat down, she began making conversation. “I hope I haven’t cut into your schedule too much. I’d hate to have bothered you; I know most people who live in the city are rather busy.” Akisei

“Oh! Well thank you!” Kiara blushed, twiddling her thumbs together. She followed Iara into the restaurant. That blush only grew redder as Iara called her special. She sat down across from Iara, focusing her eyes on the other girl’s face.
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it. If it had gotten in the way of my schedule I would have told you. I do a few temporary jobs in between school, so my schedule is free flowing. It’s a little confusing sometimes, but I’m used to changes in my life.”
Kiara looked around, gazing around at the restaurant and its surroundings. A look of awe spread across her face.
“You come to this place often? Does being a detective pay a lot?”

“I’m just being honest, dear.” She said with a small smirk and chuckle, clearly thoroughly enjoying Kiara’s blush. She was quite adorable like that. Her smirk only widened as Kiara’s blush deepened, and her devious mind was already concocting ways of making her blush again. As they sat down, Iara would take note of what Kiara was saying. Free-flowing schedule outside of her studies, consisting of temporary jobs. She would store that info for later, in case of any sort of inconsistency. Iara smiled warmly at her, her eyes losing their typically hard edge to them as she spoke. “Must be hard work juggling studies with temp work.” She commented, “I was lucky enough to have a scholarship when I was studying. Having to work alongside my studies sounds like a lot of work.”She made a bit of a sour face as if imagining herself in such a position before her expression softened again, “What do you study anyway?” She asked with a curious tone. As Kiara asked her own question, a waiter came, giving them a polite smile as he handed over the menu to the both of them, “If you need anything or have any questions, please feel free to call for me, and I would be glad to help.” He said in a perfectly polite tone before stepping back to tend to the other customers. Fortunately, there weren’t that many of them, so they could enjoy a quieter lunch. The menu itself was distinctly southern with a contemporary twist, consisting of a variety of steaks, tropical ingredients, exotic cocktails, and more. They even had a dish that included chicken heart! At the question, Iara put a hand on her chin in thought before answering, “It’s far from the most well-paying job out there, especially when you’re not one of the higher-ups, but I definitely have enough money to splurge every now and again. I come here about once every two weeks or so.” She said to her. Akisei

"No really! Thank you! Actually expressing those thoughts means a lot. Er, that is um, better than just keeping it to yourself, I mean."
Kiara was a stuttering mess. Although she got a little better when she sat down. She placed her hands in her lap. She looked at the other girl, a thoughtful expression on her face.
"It's a little tricky, but I've managed. The trick is to set up a realistic schedule and get yourself into a routine. Setting up that routine when you have to multitask is the challenging part though. Like I said before, I'm majoring in theology. It's the easiest way for me to get to one of my preferred career paths. I want to do something that helps other people. Like being a social worker or a teacher. I also just find religion a fascinating field."
Kiara thanked the waiter, before looking at the menu. There were a lot of exotic stuff there. Some of which was giving Akisei ideas for her cooks in hell. Her Oni and demon workers did need their substance after all. She decided on something simple, which she would convey to the waiter when he next came buy. She folded her menu, looking over at the other woman with concern.
"Iara, if you don't have a high paying job, you shouldn't come here as often as you do. I looked at some of the prices, and it's not exactly tailored to casual diners. You could be saving Zeni for more important things down the road. You'll never know when you'll need it."
