Vali
Diplomatic Beacon
Profile:
Character Name: Vali
Nicknames: Son of Ymmir
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Demisexual
Race: Salamander
Age: 86
Birthdate: October 1st, Age 1,204
Personality:
Likes:
•Reading:
Ever since a very young age Vali has preferred the warmth found in the pages of a book. Parents focused on their careers led to a rather lonely child who escaped in the written works. Even today when stress takes over he can be found hiding his face in a book.
•Researching:
Even more than reading, Vali is at his most naturally driven when trying to find the answers to his greatest conundrum; how is Ki channeled? How can one without Ki learn to fight those with it? It doesn't matter if it's technology that may point him in the right direction; such as a Scouter. Or if it's a manual written on the arts, such as by Son Gohan.
•Adventure:
The idealism of being swept into an adventure of absurd proportions, of leaving home to become someone, of discovering new places and new things. Adventure was something that filled Vali with wonder as a young boy. Even now in his later "Teenage" years, he secretly still holds the desire for an adventure — Although he would never show this to others.
•Solitude:
While Vali is not averse to being around others, he does prefer peaceful silence. He doesn't meditate like some, but rather in silence his mind wanders to academic pursuits.
Dislikes:
•Lack of Professionalism:
If there is something that Vali appreciates, it's at least a modicum of professionalism. Those that lack this and make inept decisions and mistakes tax the Salamander's patience. An example of such a thing getting under his skin is a hired killer botching up the job they were signed up for; if you can't keep the damage contained solely to your target, you have no value even as a killer.
•Purposeless Actions:
Perhaps even more than unprpfessionalism, Vali despises those who act without reason. Became a hero just because you were bored? Doing things just "For the evulz"? Do you think paying for ramen is a saintly act of charity? Expect him to quite harshly scold you for this. Even ultimately selfish purposes are more acceptable to him than someone who doesn't even know why they act.
•Loud people:
As someone who enjoys peace and quiet, those who are loud and boistrous are quite grating to him. He typically doesn't vocally express this dislike, but he has a harder time getting along with those who throw their vocal weight around.
•His Father:
Not as simple a dislike as you may assume at first glance. He doesn't despise EVERYTHING about his father. — In some ways Vali even respects his father. However he hates the man's "legacy" with a burning passion. For it to even entrap him down a path he didn't choose, he has little reason to appreciate the work Ymmir has accomplished. Even if those reasons are ultimately selfish.
Strengths:
•Calm and Collected:
There is very little beyond catastrophic events that can cause Vali to shift from his typical calm demeanor, allowing him to remain rational even in the most heated moments.
•Intelligent:
Vali is a very studied person, as is natural for a member of the salamander race. As such he is able to make calculated decisions with rationale placed firmly behind them. He is also quite capable of holding mature conversation with others if need be.
•High Pain Tolerance:
As is typical for the hardy salamander race, Vali has a stronv resistance to all forms of pain. This does NOT make him immortal or immune to flinching/stunning/being knocked unconcious, however a punch or getting blasted by ki hurts him far less than it would a human.
•Curiosity:
Vali is naturally inclined to learn of other cultures and people and takes a vested interest in it. As such he is far more open than most others to hearing view points and ideals that other people hold - Even if they may clash with his own views.
Weaknesses:
•Cold:
Being calm can backfire as Vali often comes off as uncaring and disconnected. Though entirely unintentional he rarely speaks emotionally to others except in extreme cases, causing communication to be rather difficult.
•Arrogant:
An unfortunate side effect of his intelligence, Vali can unknowingly behave arrogantly at times. It is a natural drawback of his race's mentality as a whole. However he is not above admitting his mistakes if he realizes his arrogance. Though that makes it no less frustrating to deal with.
•Reserved:
Vali keeps to himself, and as such has very few friends, very few people who know who he really is. It takes a great deal of patience to get him to open up to someone, and even then this opening up is a gradual process.
•Socially Ignorant:
Much like with his arrogance, his upbringing in Salamander society has led to high intelligence and low social understanding. At times he can respond awkwardly to others, be oblivious to social cues, or outright be unable to read the room. However he has a "Academic" understanding of what is appropriate behavior in most any culture and thankfully can avoid things considered crass and absurd.
Vices:
•Books:
When he is stressed, sad, or despairing, Vali will lose himself in his studies, almost completely blocking out the world around him and ignoring those who approach him. It takes some time for him to "Break the trance" as it were.
On his exterior Vali is a textbook example of a Salamander. He is cold, calculating, and professional. Seeking academia to fill a void where personality would be in others. He holds the values of intelligence and history much like his fellow blood brothers. And yet despite being a textbook example on the outside...On the inside he has his own ideas, his own aspertions and thoughts. An interior that lies beneath a shell few could manage to crack - Vali has a childlike curiosity and a desire for adventure. To see beyond Lemuria, to experience all of the universe's colorful cultures, and to put a stop to tyranny before it can take root.
These two personalities may seem to conflict, and yet for Vali, they mesh perfectly. Being professional does not stop him from desiring to stamp out tyranny the likes of Frieza, likewise wishing to see new cultures does not mean he cannot find comfort in academia. He is utterly without internal conflict, however despite this he does not openly show the true dreams he holds, for him what is good to him is important to himself only. However with time and differing viewpoints it is not impossible for one to change his mind on this.
He utterly loathes ignorance, unprofessionalism and tyrants however. A stance that will never change. In his mind those who cannot bother to put effort into what they do give way to ignorance, and ignorance leads to giving tyrannical leadership a foothold. All of these things are loosely connected and thus placed on a pedastal of infamy for the Salamander diplomat. It is the one thing he does not mind being vocal about, for her fears a scenario in which no one corrects these grievous errors.
However despite how vocal he is in regards to this his hatred of these three things cannot match his openness to hear other viewpoints. He has long held a desire to see other angles. Deep down he believes there is no "universal right". Even if he has an understanding of what he considers good and evil, he also knows others may not see this in quite the same way. Though he will not suffer suppression of weaker people no matter what, he still opens his mind to what others consider "Wisdom".
Appearance:
(Diplomat Uniform)
(Combat Uniform)
Height: 7'4"
Weight: 210 Lbs.
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Gray
Face Claim Name: Arjuna Alter
Face Claim Origin: Fate Series
Vali has two separate outfits that he wears for the given situation at hand, although both are worn at the same time for utility's sake. His first outfit is the one he uses for diplomatic situations. A royal blue overcoat with black fur around the edges of the coat, as well as gold accents marking the inner parts. Below that is a black tabbard tunic combination itself with gold accents and gold chains as well as a royal blue belt that has the emblem of the Yggdrasphere on it, marking him as an official. Underneath this tunic is a pair of black dress paints with gold accents of its own along the outer legs, and on his feet are two dress shoes that are dark blue in color, as well as a pair of lilac colored socks on his feet.
His combat uniform forgoes the flashy clothing for a simple blue cape that is fastened by a grand gold chestplate featuring intricate details, such as the Yggdrasphere symbol, and symbols of his family crest, a black sleeveless shirt that features no extra features, gold gauntlets that travel all the way up his forearms and are segmented for maximum flexibility, a pair of black pants with no highlights, and a pair of golden boots and leg guards which are segmented in plates so as not to restrict movement in any way, all of this comes together to make him look both formidable and regal while in the field of battle. It is clear from this garb that while he may be from a peaceful race, he does not intend to fall to any lesser opponents. Despite its appearance, this gold is not simple gold plating, it is an alloy with a golden hue mined on Lemuria. It is far stronger than gold however it is simultaneously far more flexible, making it ideal for armor such as this!
On his head are a pair of glowing blue horns which reach to the base of his scalp, he has a full head of dark brown hair, and dark toned skin. His eyes are a gray color that often glow in low light levels. He is quite tall, as is natural for his race, and his forearms, shoulders, and his lower face are all covered in black scales. He has sharp black talons on his finger tips and his body is well toned, from his arms to his abdominal muscles, it is clear to others who see him that despite his academic approach, he has not neglected his physique. On his back is a royal blue colored tail that splits into two ends at the very end. On top of his tail are very strong golden scales which protect it from even the sharpest of blades. His tail features SOME small spikes that can make it quite painful to get hit by.
History:
Family: Father: Ymmir, Mother: Freya, Brother: Baldur
Home world: Lemuria
Starting planet: Brench
Home Town: Alfheim
To fully grasp Vali's history one must look back first to the accomplishments of his father; Ymmir. Approximately 300 years ago with the death of Frieza, the noble scholar Ymmir stepped forward introducing a quandary of great concern to the Yggdrasphere council: A massive loss of power would inevitably lead to mass chaos as those once held back by this power rose up to grab it for themselves. He predicted nightmarish futures for hundreds of planets that had once been under the iron fist of Lord Frieza - Planet-wide civil wars, famine, great plagues, death and loss of cultures everywhere. Even the normally stoic council was brought to panic and concern as they poured over their own books and inevitably came to the same conclusion that he had.
With Frieza gone and no one to take his place, armageddon level events would take place across almost every world he had once ruled without fail. At this rate there was no doubt it WOULD happen but rather WHEN it would happen. A leadership that had been content to sit on the sidelines was now pressed with a moral issue. Do they interfere and potentially accelerate the problem? Or do they sit back and watch millions slowly die knowing they have the knowledge to intervene?
And so the philosopher who had once been but a minor addendum to the history of the Yggdrasphere became the center to perhaps the greatest debate in this government's existence. Ymmir spent days locked in the Council's meeting chamber alongside Lemuria's greatest philosophers, scholars, and recordkeepers. All of them working together to determine what course of action would be correct. Ceaseless hours were spent arguing, positing, pleading, chastising, all of this over whether or not the power of knowledge was theirs to use in this scenario.
Five days with no sleep and very little food. That was how long Lemuria's greatest minds spent debating this issue before finally when the appeals to saving dying cultures was brought forward by Ymmir and several of his colleagues, the council made a decision. - The Yggdrasphere would pool their resources into saving the PTO from collapse. And the one who had brought this issue to light was to assist as a diplomat to the PTO's headquarters.
And so many years passed, and Ymmir had become hailed as a hero, not just by Lemuria, but by the Brenchians as well. His tireless efforts led to millions of lives across hundreds of planets being saved. Both nations officiated his heroism with awards and medals, and yet...None of these left him feeling any amount of joy. Certainly he had accomplished great things. He had even landed himself a place in Yggdrasphere's council, an honor reserved only for Lemuria's greatest. But his ambitions...Did not feel satiated. Perhaps it was due to feeling as though he had accomplished none of this himself. Perhaps it was because for all of these awards he felt he only played a "supporting role". He was not like Yamiko who had single handedly felled a tyrant of unmatched power.
But time gave way to new generations, and as Ymmir's role in the theater of the PTO closed and he secured a place within the council he chose to settle down with a wife and sire heirs to his legacy. In his mind he thought that perhaps where he fell short perhaps the next generation could succeed with his guidance and wisdom.
Vali and his elder brother Baldur were raised very strictly, following their father's teachings. Both parents spent very little time at home, too absorbed by their careers to do more than teach their sons. However, how these two coped with their childhoods was the difference between dusk and daylight. Baldur spent his free time exploring the halls of Alfheim, growing bolder every day. However Vali...Vali found respite in the printed words. Even as a little salamander books took him to worlds he couldn't have possibly imagined. Encyclopedias taught him of cultures that existed far out in the distant stars. Novels took him on adventures from the comfort of his family's library. Philosophical texts provided him with wisdom from his predecessors. And history books taught him compassion, fear, and respect.
Years passed and the two brothers grew. Baldur defied his father's desires, instead exploring Lemuria to his heart's continent, bit Vali grew smarter, more academic... Colder. Ymmir sent Vali to Lemuria's great library to study under the prestigious lorekeepers who worked and lived there. Vali was indifferent at first...Months went by with him only doing exactly as he needed to. He learned like a machine, as though it was simply "necessary" and not something he wanted. That was all until he studied under the lorekeeper named Thoth. Thoth was...Different from the other lorekeepers. Rather than merely handing books to the young Salamander, Thoth chose instead to regale Vali with stories. He spoke of historical events with wonder and horror. That spark Vali had began to return...And yet he also gained new ideologies for himself, and it all began with Thoth's stories of the terrible emperor Frieza.
That someone could be so ruthless, so careless with the lives of others...It made Vali angry. It made him afraid. These stories impacted him deeply enough to forge his very ideals. Deep inside his greatest desire was ensuring there could never again be another Frieza. He swore to himself that no matter how much he had to study, no matter what he had to do to appease his father, he would do so in order to ensure he could one day reach the place of a protector. - Someone who was able to stamp out tyranny before it could start. For Vali, Thoth had given him the greatest gift: Determination. Many years later Vali applied himself and trained with the Yggdrasphere's guards, learning combat from the best of Lemuria. His father wished to object, but Vali's academia did not take a backseat to his training under the art of combat. With his learning he was able to apply practical knowledge alongside martial knowledge and quite quickly grew more skilled. But the guard was not enough. He resoectfully parted ways with them after learning a sufficient level of martial arts.
... And yet he felt aimless. The years passed by as he continued to apply himself, but despite all of this he never felt closer to his ideals, he never felt like there was a role for him to play...
Until one day a man with a belief approached Vali. This man believed that the light of Lemuria had brought forth a chosen one. Vali was not religious, however...There was something about the offer that had been given to him. The role of a bodyguard...A protector of the weak. Nothing about this lined up with him. He didn't believe there was a "chosen one". He scarcely believed that the light was paranormal in nature. But despite his intellect protesting his heart and his ideals fought...He chose to follow what his heart told him, rather than what his mind told him. This was when he met her. The girl named Asynia.
She was...Strange. He believed she was living a lie, and yet she defied everything he thought he knew about salamanders. She was not cold, her focus was fiery rather than calculating. Instead of being trapped behind a book she was applying her teachings already. His inner conflict grew more every day he spent guarding her life. And this guardianship would continue for many years. Vali spent at least 20 years playing the role of guard until one day...
His father approached him with a summons from the council itself. It seems Vali was finally needed to serve the Yggdrasphere...He bid farewell to Asynia and her followers. It was not a bitter farewell, but a hopeful one. He left and overnight had been assigned as a diplomat by the council of Yggdrasphere. Though Lemuria was suffering from a conundrum kf fading light there was another front the Salamanders could afford to ignore no longer. The remnants of the PTO and Brench's fading power structure. Perhaps in some way they felt guilty for causing this, perhaps ...They felt as though they could not leave this matter unaddressed. Under the recommendation of Ymmir Vali was assigned to head to Brench and open communication in the hopes of repairing the leadership of the once powerful PTO.
Once again he felt so much internal conflict. To be assigned to "Following in his father's footsteps" burned him to his core. But to save a world from potential tyranny...To help the weak. It was what he had wanted for so long. With unease in his heart and a plan in his mind Vali boarded the Salamander vessel destined for planet Brench. As he departed he took one last look at his home world...At the tree which held his entire race's hopes. He knew not how things would change, but he knew one thing...His journey of self was only at its very start.

Roleplay Example:
Well this was a first for the Elfen! It was her day off from chores. A casual saturday for most, and thankfully her grandma didnt train people on the weekends. Ayami had free reign to do as she pleased for a change! Even more surprising was that her grandmother OK'd the trip here on the condition that Koji hang around the city as well for her safety. He normally would have objected but... West City was an interesting place. Besides, the two agreed to split up, so he wasn't stuck babysitting the gearhead all day. As the two adopted siblings stepped off of the bus into West City's bus station terminal, Koji gave Ayami a pat on the shoulder, looking her right in the eye.
"Don't forget to keep your belongings secure. Keep your phone where you can easily reach it, and answer it when it rings! And sis, for the love of kami...Don't go to the south side of the city. It's seedy as hell and Gramma will flip if you get hurt by some shitty wannabe thug."
"I thought all the criminals in this town were pansies?"
"They are. Gramma doesn't like us getting into uneccesary fights remember?"
"Okay, okayyy. I won't topple the criminal underworld...Yet."
The elder brother gave her a thumns up and a smile before walking off to go explore the town. He stopped suddenly however, looking back at the elfen girl.
"Almost forgot. Don't buy anything weird. Just souvenirs."
"Just souvenirs!"
She gave her adopted brother her best grin and a thumbs up, showing that she could DEFINITELY be trusted this time, and that she absolutely, totally, won't buy a 1:1 scale Gekidan Mecha plushy this time. He just...Gives a sigh and a nod before continuing to walk off.
"Finally, after 10,000 years I'm FREEEEEEE!"
West city was hers to explore! And explore she did! She perused the city's most popular shops and parks, really taking in the freedom! She visited the world's biggest Capsule Arcade naturally and spent two whole hours and an entire roll of coins in that place! But all that hardcore record breaking on DDR made her...Thirsty. She came across a snowcone stand and waved to the tender!
"Coconut flavor please! Oh, oh, oh! Put chocolate sauce on top too! It's delicious!!!"
Ayami handed over a zenny bill to the man tending the stand, watching with pure excitement as he scooped ice into a cup and slowly, deftly, expertly began to mix in the requested flavors, creating only the most perfect and mouth watering treat imaginable. The man soon finished creating the snowcone and handed it off to the mechanic with a smile.
"Thank you very much!!!"
And so with snowcone in hand Ayami walked through the nearby park, taking a seat at a bench overlooking a beautiful fountain adorned with amazing statuettes. She chomped down on a spoonfull of coconut and chocolate flavored ice, listening to a pair of men hold a conversation on the bench next to her, the sounds of water pouring into more water serving as a calming backdrop.
"Didja hear about that kingpin?"
"No, should I have?"
"Well, maybe not but You'll never BELIEVE what happened to him. So this absolute nutcase decked out in a FULL SUIT OF ARMOR walks into a ramen shop..."
"Sounds like the set up to a great punchline..."
Ayami simply thinks to herself under her breath, choosing not to listen to the rest of their conversation and instead watched the water dance on the fountain, enjoying her icy treat until the very last bite had been taken. With her treat finished she began to wrack her brain, trying to decide how exactly to spend the rest of her time here in West City. She still had about four hours left until she had to meet up with Koji again. That was a lot of free time to kill! But...How to do the time killing was the big question.
"Maybe I could! ... Mmm no already did that. Oh I could buy! ... No Koji would get mad. OOOHH I COULD ALWAYS-...Nooo that's on the south side of the city...Hrmmm...."
The elfen girl continued to press her mind for answers, quickly growing frustrated. She threw her arms up and gave a loud huff, falling back onto the soft grass of the park after having spent ten solid minutes wandering around.
"A whole big city and I can't even find anything to DO! Why's it gotta suck here?! Why can't I have a sign from the Patron Deity?! Just one! I won't ask again I swear! Ughhh!"
The tempermental water elfen closed her eyes, her arms and legs splayed out freely. The visitors to the park passed by giving her odd looks, some even wondering if an ambulance needed to be called. After a moment of just not thinking at all, the currently emptyheaded mechanic opened her eyes...And staring her right in the face was a distant capsule corp sign rising above the city's skyscrapers. Suddenly an idea came upon her like a truck slamming into an isekai protagonist.
"That Zeni girl was with Capsule corp! I bet I could get a personal tour of the whole HQ if I asked her nicely!!! It's ingenius, it's beautiful! It's...Ten billion percent guaranteed to work!!! Nyehehehe~"
Suddenly Ayami brought her knees up to her chest and her palms over her head planted firmly against the grass. With a rapid push Ayami used momentum to instantly bring her right back onto her feet!
"Capsule Corp here I come!!!"
Ayami ran off at high speeds, reaching the HQ in a matter of moments! There it sat in front of her. The second most important place in her entire life. The front door of THE Capsule Corp HQ...Did she dare enter the threshold into these hallowed halls? Was she really prepared to set foot in the place of her dreams...?
"... Of course I am!!!"
The water elfen confidently stepped through the sliding doors, entering in from the warm sun and into the airconditioned, fancily decorated lobby of Capsule Corp HQ.
It was everything she hoped it would be and yet so much more. She shed a single tear as she took in the sights. Wiping it away.
"No, no... No tears. Not yet."
The place was amazing!!! It was so much more modern than any other building Ayami had ever been in! The walls had monitors displaying animated imagery — each animated image advertising one of Capsule Corp's inexhaustible catalogue of items. In various spots potted plants lined the floors, lending a warm "natural" energy to the otherwise cool lobby. The back wall featured glass elevators going up and up and UP! All of them carrying important looking employees to and from their workplaces. The waiting area was spacious yet minimalistic. Comfy chairs lined up on a red carpet with magazine racks placed about. Each magazine covering something relevant to the company of course!
There were several TVs set up around the waiting area to preoccupy one's time where magazines might fail. Each tv tuned to a different channel. Sports, News, finance... Lots of mature choices! Finally towards the back of the lobby but stopping short of the elevator area was the reception desk. A massive sprawling mahogany desk with solid gold highlights. Computers and holographic monitors lined the desk, each manned by a receptionist of which there seemed to number about five. They were all pretty busy, typing away at their computers.
"Whoa... So this is innovation..."
Ayami approached the reception desk, each step soundless as she walked across the very plush carpet of the lobby's floor. At the station she approached sat a Namekian, either too occupied or too uncaring to notice the Elfen approach. Though she was persistant! With a clearing of her throat and the ringing of a bell placed firmly on the desk she caught his attention and he looked up at her from his work.
"Can I...Help you with something?"
Ayami gave him an excited nod in response, wasting no time stating her business and who she was here for.
"Yeah my friend-Uh... My associate is working here today. I've got very important business with her. Her name's Zeni!"
... The namekian raised an eyebrow at Ayami as she gave a very..."Convincing" reason for being here. He typed some information into his computer for a moment before responding.
"Right... And what's your name? I need to check with the official schedule."
"My name's Ayami! I'm only the most ingenius inventor of our generation! Please, no autographs. I'm a busy woman!"
The Namekian receptionist resumed typing into his computer after taking her information, shaking his head after hitting the enter key.
"Uhhh... No. No I'm not seeing an..."Azumi" on our schedule."
Ayami's only response was a logical first step to freeing herself of this troublesome issue! She responded by... ... Faceplanting the solid mahogany desk in defeat, causing a loud "THUNK" to ring out across the entire lobby. Those sitting in the waiting area all dropped their magazines in shock. And the employees wandering to and fro' all stopped to stare at the poor Elfen girl who had...Left a massive dent in the desk from the impact. The Namekian receptionist himself went from an expression of uncaring to one of...Concern.
"Uh...Miss? Are you okay?"
