As one would expect of a member of a species descended from reptiles, Ajagara’s appearance differs greatly from those of conventional humanoids. Some of the first signs of this are his black horns extending from the sides of his head, his long, lizard-like tail and the steel-like scales covering most of his body. The obsidian scales coat most of his body, extending to his wrists, ankles, and up to the. In a similar vein, his skin is an ashy grey, greatly contrasting his bright white hair and light blue eyes. His hair is usually left relatively wild, usually hanging down past his eyes in thick spikes. All in all, his appearance is rather strange for one who has not encountered many
Ajagara is far less bulky then the majority of his species, his somewhat emaciated frame a memento of years when his health was far less robust. Nevertheless, he is still lean and athletically built, and is by no means fragile. As for clothing, Ajagara most commonly favors muted, dark colors, with his tastes tending more towards the utilitarian then the fashionable. He most commonly favors dark leathers and durable boots, adding a set of polished metal plate over it when he knows he must engage in the detestable practice of battle.
History:
Family: Amund [Father], Hilda [Mother], Torgeir [Brother], Hjordis [Brother]
Home World: Lemuria
Starting Planet: Earth
Home Town: (Example: Kame Town/West City/East City)
Born the third child to a respected Bonding between a botanist and a physicist, Ajagara was, initially, like any other Salamander. From the moment his mind was developed enough to process thought, he and the other children of his generation learned of everything from photosynthesis to calculus, developing intellectually at a rate that would be staggering to most other species. However, even the children of Salamanders could easily keep up with such a curriculum.
All in all, Ajagara’s life was a pretty standard one until he reached twenty years of age. The young Salamander had been left home alone for a few hours while his parents attended a small social gathering and finished his tasks sooner than expected. Bored, Ajagara wandered around the massive house, absently listening to his brothers argue over some point of philosophy downstairs that the young boy did not quite understand enough to participate. He eventually snuck into his mother’s study and closed the door.
Five hours later, his parents came home to an entire mansion glowing with ethereal force, the hedges tripled in height and weeds choking the walkways. Ajagara’s two elder brothers were found unconscious, sequestered behind a locked door covered with vines tougher than steel. It took three hours for the family to clear a path to the unconscious Ajagara, wrapped in a flowery cocoon and twitching in his sleep.
It took a month for the young Salamander to awaken and another three for him to regain some semblance of normalcy. However, the display the young Salamander had given ensured that his old life would not return so easily. Groups of scientists (his parents included), swarmed over the weakened boy like locusts, extracting blood and other samples almost daily in search of the biological trigger which had sparked the raw explosion of mana that day. Their search only intensified as the boy grew more fragile and sick by the day, his previously recovered health vanishing into thin air.
It was about a year after the incident when a new researcher came onto the scene, a Salamander named Forraederi. The Salamander claimed to be a doctor of some renown, and had the documents to prove it, but there was something….off about him that everyone could detect, but none could identify. Nevertheless, the doctor was allowed a private session with Ajagara. The Salamander, initially suspicious, fell into a stupor as the doctor muttered a few words under his breath, shifting his hands in a flurry of motions that betrayed the eye, his hands bleeding red energy. He then placed a paper slip next to the boy’s bed, and quietly left.
The next day, Ajagara was gone.
He woke up in a massive underground complex unlike any he had ever seen, covered in various iconography of Yggdrasil and the Salamander people. Forraederi patiently explained himself to the young Salamander, explaining how his “Cult of the Silent Oak” was responsible for acquiring and teaching all Salamanders of a magical persuasion, so that their unique gifts were not squandered meaninglessly in other pursuits. It was an example of the sort the sort of brutal logic that characterized the Salamanders that such beings were given no other choice but to agree, but it was all for the best.
The Silent Oak started Ajagara small-scale, accelerating the growth of house plants and manipulating them in various contortions and twists that boggled the eye. The backlash still burned like fire, but, with practice, gradually lessened. The Silent Oak was patient, warmly encouraging the Salamander’s growth even as that very same growth began impacting his physical body. Over the course of many years, the curriculum shifted, growing progressively more intense while also sprinkling in other topics like political theory and combat training. Ajagara was glad to finally be doing something other than magic, having grown bored with 20 straight years of training, but was growing increasingly more uncomfortable with the direction his training was heading. He was, after all, first and foremost a Salamander, and was much more at home in the library then on the battlefield, but he persisted out of a simple sense of debt to the Silent Oak.
And then, they tried to make him some sort of Savior.
Perhaps the word was a bit strong for what had actually occurred, but there was no other word the normally verbose Ajagara could think of the first time he saw the announcement. The wording was the height of subtle persuasion, making insinuations that it was the Silent Oak’s mages, lead by Aja’s unparallel raw power, that could reconstitute the fading Yggdrasil. The worst part of it all was that it was a blatant falsehood in the purest sense: Ajagara knew for a fact that even backed by the full power of the Silent Oak that the best he could do was add a few seconds onto the great tree’s lifespan, and even that much would kill them all.
Confused and disgusted, Ajagara applied to leave Lemuria the next day, not expecting to be allowed, but trying irregardless. Surprisingly however, the elders of the Silent Oak barely gave a peep when he asked to be allowed to search the Universe for solutions to the impending crisis, giving their consent almost immediately. It was against all logic and didn’t make a bit of sense, which confused poor Ajagara even further.
The Salamander mage, seeking time to iron out his thoughts, roamed the cosmos for many months like so many other of his species, desperately searching for any sign of hope for the future of his people. This search eventually lead him to the place which was soon to be the center of momentous events, Earth…..
Race Bonuses:
Steel Scales:
Those of the Salamander race possess scales across their body that are as tough as some armors that other races would normally be forced to equip for their own protection. However, some Salamanders have harder scales than most. Those with this racial have such hard scales that the strongest of punches hit just a little less hard. Steel Scales reduces the damage of all physical attacks by 15%
Academic Application:
Salamanders are naturally well-versed in the fields of science and academia. With this in mind, it's a natural consequence that they can use those book smarts of theirs to research the best ways to further advance their training. Whenever those with this racial earn 5 points of EXP in an ability or transformation, they will automatically be granted 3 points in that ability or transformation for free.
