It was a rather pleasant day, Furost finds himself thinking as he strolls the streets of Ura. He wipes the sweat from his brow after setting down a rather large slab of marble. Because of his people's natural strength, Furost was able to find several jobs he was suitable for. This one in particular was a simple delivery - but the artist who ordered the marble for sculpting lived on a narrow road, unable to fit a delivery caravan. So Furost, though with some difficulty despite his strength, took the slab and flew it over head and delivered it in person. He collected the fee, and had started back on foot. It would take a while, but his employers wouldn't be upset. After all, the delivery wasn't scheduled to arrive for another two standard hours. His satchel beats occasionally against Furost's back as he walks, clinking with the currency he'd managed to acquire so far. Over a few days, he'd already collected the equivalent of 1,500 Trade Chits - a good haul, considering the minor work he was really doing. This money was set aside from the chits he used for purchasing food and lodging in the nearby inn. The beds were... not particularly suitable for him. They certainly were comfortable, but with his tail, and the sharp horns adorning his head, Furost's first night was a difficult one. It took over an hour to find a position where his tail wasn't being pressured, or that his horns weren't threatening to pierce the pillows or mattress. ...Like that first night, where exactly that happened. But he'd managed to figure something out, though he did end up having to pay for a new mattress after his horns ruined it. It wasn't taking long for folks in the town to recognize him, either. Then again, he stuck out on this planet like a green tile on an otherwise all white tile floor. But that didn't necessarily mean he was making a name for himself either. The Elfen were, as Furost discovered, a fairly young species of sentient beings. Dissimilar to his ability to control the Ki within himself, the Elfen appeared able to manipulate their environments, particularly the elements. The Elfen of Ura were primarily connected to the water; able to take otherwise spectacular feats with water and use them to complete tasks as a matter of life's daily course. None of the Elfen he met so far could fly as he could, however. Some Elfen had recently left Hegemon, but Furost never seemed to learn more than that. Shaking his head to clear his now way off topic thoughts, Furost heads for his now favored spot, stopping along the way to purchase a local food. It was essentially a form of breaded crustacean meat, but slathered with fruit extract and powdered with a sweetener. Furost flies up and onto the topmost roof of a tall tower, and settles down to enjoy his food, as well as the view he had become particularly fond of. The Elfen here still utilized water-borne ships for much of their intercity travel, which of course made sense. The serenity often gives him pause; seldom does anything of particular excitement happen in Ura. This conflicted heavily with the often dangerous life he'd led so far with the Search and Rescue Corps. And all too often, this stark difference still surprised the Frost Clansman. He decides to take it easy and relax for the next couple of hours; his flight was fairly quick, so he had no worries about being late to report the successful delivery to his employer in person.

Furost gazes over the city with an air of calm that he had come to quite enjoy. He finishes the food he'd purchased and savors the mixture of sweet and tartness of the meat and sweetener. He sits on the ledge for well over an hour, when a chiming noise bleats from his bag. Furost didn't need to take it out to know what it meant. Standing up and stretching broadly, Furost cracks his neck a few times and leaps down from the tower after securing his bag strap over his shoulder.
Furost flies over the cityscape, taking note of the market still bustling with activity, and heads back to his employer's shop. Like the vast majority of structures, the outer walls were composed of marble and mortar. However, it had taken Furost some time to get used to the very old, creaky wooden door that was situated as the shop's entrance. He often felt like he could accidentally break it every time he turned the copper knob and pushed against the surface. Furost hears the overhead bell jingle, and a light shuffling of feet.
Within the shop, the walls were starkly different - wooden walls, lined with red wood shelves, circular glass displays, and many hand sized baubles and sculptures. Several Elphen browse the shop's wares as Furost passes, and offer polite greetings. Furost smiles and returns the greetings, making his way through to where he knew the shop owner's office was located.
When he had first arrived, Furost caught many stares; not only in that he was an alien, but because he was so much shorter than the Elphen. He knocked on the door, and waited. After a few moments, Furost knocks again... but still, no one came to open the door. Instead, a voice calls out to him from behind the clerk counter.
"Oya, Furost! Granna Sylph isn't here." the voice rolled the 'R' in Furost's name so aggressively that it could only belong to Nynya, Sylph's granddaughter. The Frost Clansman turns, looking at Nynya. She has striking blue eyes, but her hair was kept in a short bob-cut and dyed a fiery orange. Apparently, she had been born with a hair color closer to teal, but Nynya likely wanted her eyes to be more visible. At least, that's what Furost thought of the matter. It had also taken Furost a bit to understand that Granna was just her way of saying grandmother. "What do you need?"
Furost turns away from the office door and walks over to Nynya, slipping the bag off his shoulder.
"I completed the delivery, I just wanted to hand over the customer's payment." Furost informs the Elphen girl. He takes out the currency, small plates of metal dyed in various shades of blue, counts them, and places them on the counter. Nynya also takes a slip of paper Furost provides, and looks it over. She shrugs and rings up the purchase officially, the register emitting a loud dinging noise as she sets the slip and currency within. "Also, I was wanting to see if any other deliveries were needed."
Nynya blinks, and looks at the ceiling thoughtfully.
"Nay, I've'n't heard anything from Granna about it. Pretty sure the marble slab was the only one today, really." Nynya replies after a few moments. She looks at Furost with a raised brow, and then seems to remember something. "Ah! That reminds me..."
Nynya opens the register again, and counts out a number of the metal platelettes, and hands them to Furost.
"Granna told me to remember to give you your week's pay if she weren't here." Nynya tells Furost. Furost offers a polite bow, and accepts the payment. "If'n you're not busy elsewhile, I could use some help around the shop. If'n you don't mind, that is."
"Not at all. What do you need me to do?" Furost inquires.
"Well, Granna's been putting it off, but the wind vane up top has been leanin' for a while. I'm worried it'll topple down soon." Nynya explains. "If'n you could, I have some tools to repair it. Don't want anyone gettin' hurt if it did fall."
Furost was going to point out that wasn't technically in the shop, but Nynya would probably argue that she said around the shop, not in. Instead, Furost nods.
"I can do that. I'm not much of a repairman though." he replies evenly.
"Nay, it'll be fine. All you need to do is take out the bolts from the base of the vane, and replace them. But check for cracks in the vane itself, just in case." Nynya tells him, smiling. She makes sure to close the register, and motions for Furost to follow her to the rear of the shop, where she collected and handed over several tools and a small, but heavy, bag of bolts.
Furost heads outside, and flies up to the top of the shop's roof. Indeed, the weather vane was teetering - and it was not a small ornament. It could easily weigh enough to seriously harm anyone it happened to fall upon. Furost sets the tools on a flat surface, and selects the necessary one to remove the bolts. They were badly weathered, and rusted in some spots. Furost only needs a few minutes to remove them, and another few to replace them. He pulls and pushes at the vane, checking the stability. Satisfied, Furost moves to collect the tools when he hears a loud shriek.
Blinking at the sudden rush of commotion, Furost looks around. He spots a woman frantically reaching over a wall that had a drop over the edge easily over fifty feet to the ground below. Furost follows the woman's hands, and sees a child dangling off what appeared to be a flagpole. The child's shirt was snagged on the edge of the pole, which clearly saved their life.
In the span of an instant, Furost's trained instincts kick in, his days serving in the Search and Rescue Corps. rushing in to fuel his muscle memory. Nynya, who had been watching Furost work, also looked, and emitted a startled bleat; but Furost was already moving. He leaps from rooftop to rooftop, his eyes never leaving the child dangling above a doomed fall. The flagpole suddenly snaps, and Furost's eyes widen - he exerts his Ki, letting it burn around him with a blurry red, and flies at the falling child.
Thankfully, the child falls into his outstretched arms. At first, the child wails and suddenly wraps its arms around Furost's neck. Patting the child's back, Furost lets out a relieved sigh, and floats up to the frantic mother. After several embarrassing minutes of thanks by the parents, Furost blushingly flies back to the shop, remembering to retrieve the tools he'd left on the roof before heading to the street below. After more embarrassing praise, Furost decides to leave the shop. It was embarrassing to know that news of the incident would spread quickly, and he simply did NOT have the luxury of anonymity. Rubbing the back of his head, Furost heads up the street, pondering what he should do next.

[Thread PL: 85] [Suppressed PL: 40]
“WOW! THIS CITY IS SO COOL!” Sylvia got a few strange looks from people in the streets as she stood on a bridge that led into Ura. Fortunately, that’s all the scrutiny she received: using her shapeshifting abilities, she had made her tail recede inside her body. It was an ability that the Fae were not born with, so Sylvia didn’t know why she had this ability. But she was grateful that she did have it: she would be able to explore this wondrous city without anyone raising a fuss. The Elfen here seemed to think she was just a tall Fae, which was unusual but not unheard of. The whole place was designed to utilize water to the fullest. It was as though this city was an island that had naturally grown out of the ocean. Sylvia’s eyes shined as she let out an excited squeal. She was already envisioning herself playing in the canals that flowed through the city. She could probably startle quite a few people in the process. Sylvia wasn’t paying attention to where she was going and bumped into someone. She turned to snap at them, although stopped when she saw him. He was some kind of alien, one that stood out like a sore thumb. He had two horns growing out of his head and a tail. He had a tail! So she wasn’t the only one out there like that. Her annoyance evaporated, and she skipped up to the alien, staring up at him inquisitively. “Hey Horny, what are you? You aren’t an Elfen or a Fae. Are you some kind of mutant?”

Furost hadn't been paying attention to where he was going, instead looking up at the statues and other marvelously sculpted structures when he was suddenly knocked into. The hit caught him by surprise, and the Frost Clansman blinks in surprise.
"My apologies," Furost says hastily, turning to check on the person. It wouldn't do if he had somehow managed to hurt them. But the person, after a brief moment of looking irritated, suddenly changes her expression and bounds up to Furost, her words sounding giddy. "Huh? Oh, uh, no I am not from this planet."
Furost offers a polite bow.
"My name is Furost. I suppose your people would call me a Frost Clansman." he explains, smiling at the new person. "I'm no mutant, just not a being born of this particular world. May I ask your name, miss....?"

The apology seemed almost unnecessary: she didn't even acknowledge the prior incident. Indeed, the fact that he had bumped into her was no longer on her mind. She looked at him curiously, silently moving her lips for a few seconds. What she was doing became clear once she spoke up.
"Fur-ost? like the Frost that is produced by cold, right? You should visit Hyperbolia before you go. It's all cold and Frosty there. Frosty! That's a catchy name: I'll call you Frosty!"
Sylvia chirped, hopping around Furost until she was standing behind him. She stared at his tail inquisitively.
"I'm Sylvia, from the Twyllyg forest. I don't know anything about other worlds: I haven't fully explored my own yet. Say, how strong is this thing? Can it hold your entire body weight?"
Sylvia poked at a couple of times with her index finger. Then she reached out and gave it a squeeze. Despite being small, her grip was strong. Although it didn't feel like she was trying to hurt him. It was like she was found a toy and was trying to figure out how it worked. She could feel the muscles through the skin. The appendage seemed to be strong. Although she really wanted to see it in action.

"Er, yes I suppose you could think of it that way." Furost replies, somewhat amused. When the girl decides to giveve him a nickname, Furost grins. He watches the girl hop around him, and listens to her self introduction. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet yo-yaah?!"
Sylvia had grabbed a hold of Furost's tail, surprising him. But she didn't seem to have any ill will, just a child-like interest in it. His tail wriggles in Sylvia's hands, though there was no real intent behind it.
"My tail?" Furost repeats back at her. "I suppose it's strong enough to lift a few hundred pounds of weight. It is fairly prehensile, so I often use it for holding things, other than just my balance."
Furost tilts his head at Sylvia.
"So you come from Twyllyg, what brings you all the way to Ura, if I may ask?" Furost inquires.

"Heheheh, it's sensitive, isn't it? I should know!"
Sylvia chirped, oblivious to the slip of the tongue she just did. She let go for a moment, then moved so that she next to the tip. She raised and dropped it on the ground a couple of times playfully, before letting go and stepping back a foot. She tilted her head at Furost, giving him an inquisitive look. She tapped her index finger against her cheek.
"Hmm, well I just wanted to go exploring. I've heard all sorts of neat stories from the rest of the Fae about all the Elfen cities. This place is even better than I could have imagined. There's so much water here! Some of those canals look like they'd be fun to slide around in."
Sylvia hummed, walking back around so she was standing in front of the Kold Demon. She held her hands behind her back, an innocent smile spreading across her face.
"What about you Frosty? What brings you to Ura? Are you here to sightsee? Or are you here for some other reason?"

[Thread PL: 90] [Suppressed to 5] Photina's first stop on her personal journey was Ura. The Light Elfen was far from being able to enact any part of her ambitious dream, but she had longed to see the city again, so this was more of a visit for personal reasons. Some of the Nammu Tribe still recognized her; it was hard to forget someone that literally glows as bright as she did. Though it soon became apparent that she wasn't the only thing here that stuck out like a sore thumb; as she happened across the area that Furost and Sylvia were currently at.
Sylvia looked like a slightly tall Fae, not that she had ever met any of them to be able to compare such a thing. But it fit the usual stories she had received about them. But the more eye-catching of the pair was the Frost Clansmen. A genuine alien to the world of Hegemon. It didn't look like he intended any harm either, although the Fae that he met might be a little much to take in...
She had watched their conversation for a bit before Photina decides to approach properly. Unwittingly marching straight to a person that had a child-like curiosity. She was probably going to be the next target of Sylvia's intrigue at this rate." If I heard you right, you said you're a Frost Clansmen?" She asks, a little curious." So you have tribes on your world as well?" Photina then queries, hoping to learn a bit more about Furost. It was true that she had skipped an introductory step. But it wasn't every day that you met someone from another world, either! Hegemon was a little quiet in that regard...------ Sylvia Furost

Furost looks quizzically at the girl as she speaks. He didn't see a tail for her to reference, but neither was he going to ask.
"I myself am rather dazzled by the architecture of this place." Furost replies with a smile, his tail swinging softly left to right with his good mood. "I'm afraid I am not here totally by choice - my ship was in bad condition, forcing me to make an emergency landing on this world, and so I am trying to earn enough money to eventually purchase a new ship. Although, I have yet to explore this world, so I may end up staying for some time yet. After all, I keep meeting colorful individuals like yourself."
Furost casts a pleased look out at the vast view of the ocean and waterfalls.
"I just happened to land here in Ura. I am quite grateful for that, I admit." Furost says, offering a wide smile at Sylvia.
To his surprise, another voice joins in the conversation. A taller girl with shining hair approaches, asking questions to Furost. Not wanting to be rude, Furost pleasantly replies to the queries.
"Yes, you could say that. Perhaps the concept is a little different, however." Furost replies to the newcomer. "Tribes, in my culture, tend to be small. For my people, Clans are powerful families that control large quantities of land and possess considerable business and military clout. Though, in the last couple centuries we have moved more towards helping the galaxy. I was part of a large organization's Search and Rescue Corps."
Furost smiles at the newcomer.
"My name is Furost, may I ask your name miss...?"

Sylvia looked at Furost with confusion. "Then is the only reason you're still here to admire the city? Why don't you take a ship you come across? I've been told about the concept of buying things, but it seems like such a pointless and time-consuming process. Are you really weak Frosty?"
She didn't seem to be condescending when asking that question. She was also talking about stealing a ship out in the open where anyone could hear her like it was a normal thing for people to do. She seemed to tune Furost out when he started talking to a newcomer. Who immediately got Sylvia's attention. She looked at the girl's hair with awe. She walked over to the girl slowly, looking up at the unique hair she possessed.
"Woooow! Your hair is so shiny!"
Sylvia hopped up in the air and swatted at the hair, feeling it for herself before she landed back on the ground. Her height had forced her to touch the hair like that.

Photina listens intently as Furost explains the way his world works, it's soon rather apparent that he has her full attention, judging from the expression on her face. " I see... So it's possible for more complex societies and cultures to be formed." The Elfen smiles at having earned this bit of knowledge. Though Furost might not entirely understand why, it only served as proof that her ambitions were true; the Elfen could be more, if they could just overcome the silly notion of tribes and become a singular people. Finally cast away all of those divides... Although even then, it sounded as though the Frost Clansmen had some difficulty in accomplishing that themselves.
It was at least progress. And any progress that could be made was better than nothing. He also states that he was part of a search and rescue corp. Quite the decorated career he's had... While the concepts might not have been fully formed for Photina, the general description and meaning to the words filled in most of the gaps.
Further questions would have to wait however, as he introduces himself and asks for her name. She flinches slightly, realizing her mistake. " Oh, my apologies! I completely forgot to introduce. I am Photina, one of the Light Elfen. The Light of Hegemon." She introduces herself with a curtsy.
After that exchange is finished, Sylvia chimes in by moving closer to Photina, and marveling at her hair, then commenting on it aloud.
Photina straightens out, and places a hand on her own hip as she smiles." It is! It reflects how powerful my element is. I'm quite proud of it. You may stare at it as long as you wish!" She runs her other hand through her own hair, further accentuating just how often it changed colors as it reflected the light around her. It was akin to sparkling like a diamond. Such a prismatic quality was certainly unlike any of the Nammu Tribe's Water Elfen. Furost Sylvia

Furost smiles as Photina introduces herself, and offers a courteous bow of his head. But almost immediately, Sylvia loses interest in him and gawks at Photina, prompting Furost to chuckle at the child-like display. After Photina explains how her hair's sheen matches closely with the power she wields, Furost grins and chides Syliva. "I'll have you know that I am not particularly weak." he explains patiently. "I'm not sure how things are handled on this world, or at least handled where you hail from, but business transactions are very common. It is a polite and courteous thing to do, paying one's debts." The Frost Clansman turns to Photina. "If possible, I would like to learn more about your people." Furost says politely, offering a smile. "I understand that certain elements are dictated by different kinds of Elfen; but as light is not an element, I am curious of how your people's power works." Furost holds up a hand, and a ball of shining Ki blips into existence. "My people use energy, or Ki, depending on what culture is discussing it." Furost explains, holding the ball out for Photina and Sylvia to observe. "Ki can be used for a great many things; but historically it has been used as a weapon of war. I have learned to manipulate my Ki for not only defense, but to strengthen my muscles and even heal the wounds of others." The ball disappears and Furost lets his hand fall back to his side. "I am actually quite proud of my ability to use my Ki to heal others." he continues, sounding very proud indeed. "My career in Search and Rescue has been very rewarding, though I now find myself going through a bit of soul searching." Furost blinks, seeming to realize something. "Oh! I'm sorry! I seem to have been rambling!" he bows his head apologetically. "I seem to gotten ahead of myself!" Sylvia Photina

Sylvia tilted her head, looking at Furost in confusion. "Is this polite thing all that important? You can't go home without a ship. If you're strong, then you should just take one."
The casual way she talked about breaking the law was strange. She didn't talk like a criminal that had contempt for the law. It almost seemed like she didn't grasp the very concept of laws or social norms. Her confusion was lost when Furost displayed his ki abilities. She let out an excited gasp, clasping her hands together while looking at him eagerly.
“That’s so cool Frosty! You’re just like me! I can make myself or others regenerate. I even have a tail! Oh, but most people are freaked out by it, so I’m hiding it right now. Can you change your appearance too? I dunno what soul searching is, but it sounds awesome!”
Sylvia was starting to think that she was related to Furost’s race in some way. Obviously she wasn’t a member of his race directly. But maybe she was some kind of offshoot. They both seemed to share characteristics with one another. Although that was shifted to the back of her mind once Photina said she could stare at her hair. Given her nature though, that could change at the drop of a hat.
“Tina then! Is the light element really that strong compared to other elements? Do you think the water Elfen in this city is weak? They don’t seem very strong at first glance. Only some of them feel powerful enough to play with me.”
Sylvia did more than just look at Photina’s hair. She kept swatting at it. She had to jump in able to reach it, letting out a little grunt each time she did so. It was not unlike a cat trying to grab a ball of yarn.

Photina wondered how best to explain the concept of paying something to Sylvia. Perhaps it was just a matter of teaching her the basics. " Well, think of it like this." , she begins her explanation as she turns her attention to the strange Fae-like girl." If someone was strong enough, they could take anything that belongs to you, right? But you wouldn't want them to do that." , she was trying to choose the words carefully, so as to not give Sylvia the wrong impression, but impart the right lesson. " But, if someone were to give you something of equal value to you -- like money that you can use to buy things, you might be more inclined to give them what they want." Photina then smiles lightly, thinking that might work. " It's a rule that protects the weak and the strong alike. Learning how currency works can get you all kinds of things without even having to fight a single person!" After having given her lesson, she would then turn her attention to Furost, who asks about the Elfen and how their powers work -- particularly the Light Elfen. " Ah, I suppose you might be right in that it's not really a traditional element... But to summarize, the Light Elfen are responsible for bringing light to the world. Without light, Hegemon would be a truly miserable sight." She considers how to best explain from this point onwards. " That's not to downplay the importance of the other elements, of course. The Nammu Tribe is responsible for managing the oceans and seas of the world. Every element plays a critical role. But the Light Elfen are the fewest in number. If there is one good thing that came about of that, however. It's that we all learned to respect each element." After that, Furost showcases his ability to use Ki. Which prompts Photina to more or less do the same thing, generating a sphere of pure light above the palm of her hand. One of her Techniques, but she didn't pour as much energy into it as she normally would have in order to use it as an attack. " I draw upon the light around me, and I can channel it into a variety of energies. Some to attack, others to heal, or defend." Sylvia chimed in as well, and it seems like they all had rather similar powers. That wasn't too surprising, even among the Elfen, each of the elements could be channeled in those very same ways. So why not for other types of powers as well? " Well, it seems like you've cut out a nice life for yourself in Ura. Though I understand what you mean about wanting to find purpose..." Photina brings a hand to her own chin as she begins to ponder all of this. Sylvia then asks if the Water Elfen are weak. " Well, it depends on the one you're talking about! Their warriors are fierce protectors, and their strength is rather high! But there's plenty of people that don't want to fight either." As Sylvia kept jumping to try and swat at the hair... Photina can't help but giggle a little, and then crouch down so that she can reach it a little easier. How could anyone be scared of this girl? She was like a child. Furost Sylvia

Furost has said that he is likely unable to continue this thread. As such I'm declaring this thread to be over, and am turning it in for grading. A shame: it was pretty fun.
