Koe Choukaku
Officer/Detective

Nicknames: Schiz, Psycho (by strangers at times), Split Brain, Koko (sometimes called by friends)
Gender: Female

Personality:
Likes: "I don't really like anything..." "She's in love with cake, booze wouldn't hurt either. Rom coms are also something she REALLY likes." "She also likes sparring and fighting, surprisingly enough." "Sweet things in general is actually good, but she needs her cake. Especially cheesecake. Also, she's very relaxed if she isn't doing any fighting or adrenaline rushing activities. So, put her in front of a book, and she's good." "Wait, we haven't talked about her secret poetry collection?" "SHUT UP!"
Dislikes: The voices in her head, Overly flirty people, People being very talkative when she first meets them, Unnecessary violence, Murder and killers
Strengths: Determined worker, Considerate of others' feelings and situations, Helpful but in a cold type of way, Always believes in second chances, Won't back down from helping someone, Has no shame, Thinks things through in tight situations
Weaknesses: "Where should we start?" "Honestly, where should we stop? I feel like we're her major weakness, anyway?" "So, we keep on talking to show just how much of a weakness we can be?" "Exact-" "NO! I SAID SHUT UP! SOMEONE ELSE WILL DO IT!"
...I'm guessing that's me? As stated before: The voices in her head, Always believes in second chances, Can be stubborn in her ways, Cold nature (derived from voices), Short temper, Has no shame
Vices: OTC Medication "And cake!" "I'LL KILL YOU!"
Koe Choukaku wasn't always the cold individual that she was. However, in her present day, she's very cold. Like, tip of the iceberg, cold. Despite being very cold towards people, she's not the type of person to turn down a helping hand towards someone. She's been in situations where she needed help, and because of that, she understands the difficulties people go through. When someone needs help, she can't just turn it down or ignore it. It reminds her of her past selves. Just like the voices said before, she loves cake and would do almost anything for it. Due to the numbness she attained after years of dealing with the voices, Koe has become numb to a lot of things that regular people would consider weird. She has no shame for her actions, and in some instances, she's known to strip to being almost naked, whether in private or public. "Nice-" "No."
Koe is a determined individual and a determined fighter. She believes in fighting for what's right, but what's right is usually very blurred between the lines. So, she sticks with her guns and listens to whatever she thinks is right. She follows a simple set of rules: no killing is allowed whatsoever; there's always such thing as a second chance; criminals should be listened to and understood before they're punished; and a fair fight is the best kind of fight. Which brings us to some passions she has. She's very into reading and writing poetry, ever since a very young age. Koe has a knack for and a deep love for the literary arts. However, at the same time, she has a deep love for combat and martial arts. Two polar opposites residing in one stubborn woman. Ironic would be one thing to call it.
Just like how Koe has her own personality, so do the voices in her head. The voice that Koe has named "Kuchi" (Japanese for "mouth") is a very talkative male voice. Kuchi just doesn't know when to shut up, and would blab to Koe about literally anything. He's the voice that speaks to her the most, and has the most outbursts. As such, he's also the most annoying. Kuchi can speak like a know-it-all to Koe at times. The best way to shut up Kuchi is with alcohol (or you can knock out Koe). "Ore wa Kuchi dayooo-" "Stop introducing yourself in Japanese, dammit!"
The one that Koe calls "Tatakai" (Japanese for "fight") is a female voice that is very enthusiastic about fighting, sparring, anything physical. She's a, for lack of a better term, dumb personality. All she really knows is fighting, and whatever other small things she may choose to learn or remember. Tatakai doesn't really think much, and acts on whims. She's one of the sources of Koe's stubbornness and passion. She also shortens her name sometimes to just call her "Tata." "Hey, Koe~, when can we fight someone again?" "When I'm on duty again and the guy is really, really bad. Can you just give me, like, five minutes of silence? Please?"
Lastly, the voice that Koe named "Yuutsu" (Japanese for "somber") is a female voice that usually speaks with a sadder or somber tone. It's not as if she's the source of sadness for Koe, or that she actually is sad a lot. Yuutsu just usually speaks in a softer, sadder tone. However, Yuutsu is a legitimate know-it-all. Kuchi may speak like one, but Yuutsu actually is one. She speaks the most about Koe's deep secrets, the things she remembers, the lessons she's learned, so on and so forth. "...Wait, so you don't have anything to say about that?" "Huh?" "I mean, no, I just figured since the other two gave their piece after they were described, I thought you would, too. But, no, don't let me stop you, please sit in silence." "Do you think that we're living on this giant ball of rock and water to just rot and not really make a difference in the world, or do you think that, somehow, there's a purpose-" "OH, DAMMIT, YUUTSU, SHUT UP!!!"
Also, as an added note, the voices in Koe's head mostly try to screw with her, driving her to the edge without making her actually want to harm herself. They see her suffering as a benefit to them, only if it's caused by them, though. Whenever they don't have anything to say, they usually whisper in her brain non-stop, and it's usually random, trivial, or annoying things that Koe doesn't want to hear. Koe is under the impression that over the counter medication helps shut up the voices in her head. However, it doesn't do anything to actually make them subside. Instead, it just makes it easier to deal with those voices. Outside of her head, Koe, as stated before, is a cold individual. However, she's not always the cold person she seems to be. If she finds people she can get close enough with, she opens up to reveal a happier and more cheerful side of her. That is, until the voices mess with her again.
Appearance:
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Maroon
Face Claim Name: Koe Choukaku
Face Claim Origin: Me, I drew it again
Koe stands at 5 feet, 4 inches. She usually wears baggy clothes on her upper body, which conceals the curves and nice figure that she has. Her lower body is free game, as she usually wears jeans. Overall, she doesn't care if they bring out her butt or curves, or if she's not showing any at all. "Honestly, I just wished you showed that slim figure more with your clothes." "If you had balls, I'd castrate you. Hop off!" On her casual or undercover days, Koe would wear a white hoodie vest, with a purple stripe that wraps all around her torso. On the back of the hoodie vest, there's a number "63" on it in yellow and black outline. She wears a grey low V-neck under the hoodie vest. She completes her outfit with a pair of blue jeans and combat boots with fur inside them. Whenever she's on duty, she'll wear darker clothes. Usually, she'd wear a black blouse, grey snapback, either dark blue jeans or grey joggers, and the same combat boots. She always carries her badge with her no matter what. Koe's hair is even length on both sides, however she usually slicks the left side of her hair back and the right side of her hair she keeps forward. She also has "reverse bangs" on her hairline that seem to defy gravity and go up and out. Her eyes are maroon colored, very unnatural for humans, and her skin color is relatively pale, just not on the level of a vampire. Despite being an experienced and strong martial artist, her body isn't that well defined. Currently, Koe has a tattoo on the upper part of her back, where her shoulder blades are. It's a tattoo of a crow with its wings spread out. "She claims she got it when she was in some kinda edgy phase, but we know that it's not a phase." "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" While she doesn't traditionally wear piercings, she isn't opposed to it and she has gotten them pierced before. To top it all of, Koe has no scars.
History:
Family: Father: Jinko (deceased), Mother: Ranai (deceased), Uncle: Sekkike (whereabouts unknown), Aunt: Naru (deceased), Cousin: Shigo
Home world: Earth
Starting planet: Earth
Home Town: Gingertown
"...What there was to say about my family ended soon after I was born. So, I'll tell you everything I got from my aunt, Naru, my mother's twin sister. My mother was a strong woman named Ranai, and my father was a determined man named Jinko Choukaku. I never had the privilege of figuring out my mother's maiden name. They met many years before I was born, obviously, in a chance car accident meeting. My dad was in college and was a very reckless person, needless to say. Driving fifty in a thirty-five wasn't his best of ideas, but it ended up making me. Mom was making a left at a stop light, dad didn't see that his light was red. He hit the brakes, they crashed, they fell in love, yada yada yada. Then, I was born. And then,...they died.
"It was a disease that killed my mother during labor. I tried to pry the disease from Aunt Naru, but she never budged. She was also too pained to talk about it. My father couldn't deal with the pain, or rather, he didn't want to. He became a raging alcoholic apparently, but that wasn't what killed him. It was a bar fight. Someone insulted his honor, called his wife a whore who jumped onto the first guy who hit her hard enough with his car, and made a daughter who would probably die just like her mother. Dad heard it, and he obviously wasn't going to let it slide. They fought, and he won. He beat the guy up so badly, actually, that the jerk had to pull a gun out on my dad to even the odds. The rest of the people in the bar wouldn't let him leave, and he was arrested for his crime. And just like that, both the shooter, my mom, and my dad exit this story.
"It's tragic, I know. I won't try to downplay it, but at the same time, I was just a baby. I couldn't have known about all this. Besides, by the time my dad became an alcoholic, my uncle and aunt were taking care of me. After about two years, they couldn't afford to take care of me, anymore. They had a baby on the way. My (now) 20-year-old younger cousin, Shigo. He's somewhat relevant later on in my story. Anyway, Naru and her boyfriend Sekkike weren't able to take care of me and their baby on the way. They had to put me in the foster care system. I stayed there for literally my whole life. Life in that system was a shit hole. Yes, I was an orphan, but you don't have to say it. It makes me-" "Insecuuuure." "I was wondering when you'd graciously interrupt." "We were just waiting for our golden opportunity." "Honestly, we would have had more golden opportunities if we waited a little longer."
"These three are the voices in my head. For as long as I could remember, they were there. And yes, it's a condition. These guys aren't just my thoughts. Doctors said it was Schizophrenia, and that it's very strange how it developed from a young age. Honestly, I just think I was born with them, and there's no way these voices can be just Schizophrenia. The things they do, the things they say...I mean sure, it's obvious that they're Schizophrenic voices. I can hear them whispering in my head, right now. My headache...where are my meds?" "Meds don't stop us, Koe." "Shut up. Just, shut up. Anyway, they do more than just regular...Schizophrenia stuff. They can sense energies, and they tell me where they are and how strong people are. And other weird stuff like that. I just...I just don't know...
"I'm sorry. I needed a few minutes to recollect myself. Back to my story. The foster care system sucked, mainly 'cuz they always labeled me as an orphan. Which is entirely true, I just didn't like it. Also, some families I was paired up with at certain times were just very snobby. There was this one 'brother' I had that insisted I sleep naked, 'cuz I could overheat at night whenever the heater was on. Then these guys wouldn't let me live it down. 'Take them off, Koe.' 'Fun stuff.' 'Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.' 'Strip naked.' It drove me crazy, and I ended up having to leave that home. I spent many nights in places that were better and worse. When it came to education, I was tutored. They were funded by the foster care system, and honestly the tutors I got really weren't bad. I'm glad they existed. They helped me learn about a lotta things that I don't like, and things I used for my job. I also got some visits from my uncle and aunt every now and then, without Shigo, though. They made my foster care life more tolerable, and it was around this time that Aunt Naru told me the story about my parents and early life.
"I developed my hobbies while in the foster care system. There was only one that I developed outside being tutored and doing homework. Those that I did develop from doing homework and tutoring were reading and...writing poetry." "WOOOOO! POEMS! HELL YEAH!!" "Thank you...Kuchi...The poetry meant a lot to me, and so did reading. They were my escapes. Sometimes, when I would read and write poems, the voices would instead say what I'm reading on the lines. It felt...amazing, and those are two hobbies I would never drop for the life of me. The other hobby I developed, fighting and sparring, I got from a boy I met. I was 16 years old, rebellious and young." "We still are young, we're only 22." "My turn to speak, Yuutsu. The foster family I was with had an abusive father who would abuse his children, a shameless drunk. He'd do anything he could to torment the shit outta their kids, as long as I wasn't there. He wanted to keep up appearances to the system, hide the trouble his kids were going through. By this point in time, the system was losing a lotta money, and they had no way to get more. They didn't care about what people did to their kids, as long as it wasn't the foster system's kids. So, as you can probably guess, I ran away a lot.
"One day I ran away and stood out for about 12 hours? I forget the specific amount of time. During that time, away at some park in Gingertown, I met him." "Aku Ningen." "Aku Ningen." "Aku Ningen." "Aku Ningen." "Aku Ningen." "Aku Ningen." "...Aku Ningen. Aku was a boy about my age, maybe a few months older. He wasn't in a foster care system. He had a regular family, which at the time, I think I wanted. He happened to be at the park at the time I was there. He knew how to use Ki. He ended up teaching me how to fight. I paid him daily visits at the park to get to know how to fight. It wasn't Aku, though, who made me love fighting. I just naturally came to love it. It was like a release from daily life, a release from the voices. They seem to enjoy the fighting, too. He even taught me how to fly, believe it or not. Crazy, humans flying. Aku and I...had a thing. After a while, I guess I started tricking myself into liking him. That's what I'd like to say, that I was just trying to like him. I don't know...I think it was just the confusion in the foster care system- I DON'T KNOW! All I do know is we had a thing, and it was kinda real. It lasted for a few years. I met his family, they got to know me, and we all seemed to get along. I even told them about the voices in my head. It was like...I was already a part of the family. I felt like...I was in love with Aku. I thought we were going to start a family together, and live forever, like some happily ever after bullshit fairy tale story.
"I said that we SEEMED to all get along. With Aku, apparently it was different. He didn't entirely get along with me. Over the years, he turned abusive and almost demented. There was only one thing he truly lusted, and it was blood. His craving to kill and hurt people just grew over the years, and I couldn't take it. We were 19 when it got to its worst. I'd already left the foster care system and moved in with him to an apartment we co-owned on the south side of West City. It was in that apartment that we had our big falling out, which just so happened to be our only and bloodiest fight. I was barely able to fend him off, and I'm surprised I didn't get any scars from it. He did, though. I doubt he'll forget that any time soon. I realized just how much of a sick person he was, and so I left. Ever since then, the voices have gotten worse. Any slight mention of his name used to trigger that endless rambling of it. Thankfully, now it's just at the point where if I haven't said his name in a little while or thought about it, they would start repeating it.
"After Aku, I felt lost. I needed to do something with my life, and I needed some place to stay. That's where Shigo came in. I met him working in West City, a day after I fought Aku. He saw how banged up I was and barely noticed it was me. We never met before in our lives, but his family mentioned me a lot and even showed him pictures of me as a child. It just so happens that they had asked for updates on me throughout the years. They even got a photo of me from when I was 17, and I didn't really change much in those two years. Shigo was my saving grace at the point in time. He took me into his apartment and helped me get back on my feet before I was able to move out and be on my own again, in a new apartment in a new city. While I was there, though, he told me some pretty tragic news about his family.
"Aunt Naru passed away a year before I met Shigo. There's just so much death in my family lately. She didn't pass away from the same disease as my mother. The causes were unknown, actually, but when Shigo found her body in the morning, it was still and lifeless. Also, her eyes were open. Sekkike was very distraught about it, and the next thing you know, he was gone. Straight up MIA. No trace left or even a hint of where he'd gone. Shigo had been on his own ever since, and he still hasn't forgiven his father for what he did. I wouldn't, either. With Shigo's help, I was able to nab a job in the police force. Apparently, they have a need for Ki users. It was here that I discovered another talent that these voices have: their intuition. The whispers in my head end up becoming suspicions. They point out small, barely noticeable things about certain criminals and such and I exploit it. Sometimes, if I'm stuck, they give me a hint on how to make them cave in. With that and my Ki abilities, I was able to ascend up the chain of command to...a detective. Please, I'd just rather be called 'Officer Choukaku,' if you really needa be formal. I really don't wanna go any higher. This job pays me enough as it is, and I'd rather not become some kinda commissioner or something. Way too much paperwork and it's boring anyway. Plus, I don't want that attention. Imagine the headlines: 'Schizophrenic Police Commissioner, First Ever.' I just don't need that in my life...
"I got further training within the force. I ended up going through multiple trainers because I'd overpower each and every one of them. Currently, I don't have a trainer. I'm doing my training on my own, and I'm hoping that at some point in time, some other people can train me. Maybe I'll meet some people who...No. No, that's some distant and childish dream. I don't need anyone. I just need myself...and Shigo, occasionally. I think this just about sums up everything that's happened in my life...Except...there was one thing the voices told me not too long ago. It was almost a month ago, a little less than a month ago. They said something one night, jolted me awake. I can't really remember what it was, right now. What was it again?"
The events of this night will be revealed in the sample RP post.
Race Bonuses:
Human Heart:
Humans are well known for their ability to push through odds some may call impossible, even more so when it's a fight for their very survival. Once per thread, if an attack would otherwise kill them, a human may double the power level strength of a single attack they make to counter the potentially lethal blow.
[This counter attack MUST target the one dealing the "Lethal blow"]
Core Control:
While many humans cannot control their own ki, there are some still that are capable of controlling it to a level other races can only dream of. With this racial, any time a human gives up all their actions to charge their ki, they gain an additional 5 points of ki.
While many humans cannot control their own ki, there are some still that are capable of controlling it to a level other races can only dream of. With this racial, any time a human gives up all their actions to charge their ki, they gain an additional 5 points of ki.
Roleplay Example:
Keys jingling, muffled behind some sort of wall. A door being unlocked, said door opening, and an exasperated sigh coming through the door as both wind and a woman breathed exhaustion into the apartment. Plastic bags hung from Koe's arms as she walked through her entrance to her dining room, plopping the groceries onto her dinner table. The stress of today was just wreaking her, just as much as the voices.
"Groceries are on the table."
"Do we know what's on TV?"
"Koe was thinking about reading and writing poetry all day today."
They mumbled off one thing after another in her head, non stop. Thankfully, they weren't very loud at this point in time. Instead, they were rather docile, to the point where Koe Choukaku didn't need to take her meds. She didn't need to take her meds for the voices, though. They were for her headache from how stressful work was.
"Medicine. Where my booze at?"
"Need medicine."
"Time to pop some pills."
God, today sucked. I just need some medicine for this headache. Maybe I'll watch some TV and eat some ramen tonight. I needa treat myself every now and then. Or maybe I'll catch up on that book...
Koe walked to her kitchen. She tends to keep multiple OTC medication bottles scattered in different rooms. She has two in the kitchen, five in the bathroom cabinets, two in her bedroom, one on her dining room table, and one on top of her ottoman in the living room. They are all at least halfway full. Snagging one of the bottle, she twisted it open and threw some pills in her mouth. There was also one thing she forgot, though.
"Water."
"Mizuuuuuu~."
"Need some water."
Shit, need water. With barely any hesitation, she reached for a glass and poured herself some water from the sink. This was just beginning her night. As she gulped her water and medication, Koe thought about her plans for the night. She definitely decided she was going to read a book. That'll relieve some stress. Fun for the whole family, as in Koe and her voices. Of course, to compliment the book, she'd treat herself to some ramen, like she said she would earlier. Now, all that was left to do was to put the plan into action. Putting down the empty glass, Koe walked to the dining room, stripping along the way. On the floor now lay her coat, her hoodie vest, her boots, and her jeans, all leading straight to the dining room table. Except for the boots; she threw them towards the door. To prevent herself from slipping or anything, she kicked the clothes out of the way. All that remained was her grey, low V-neck.
A few hours have passed. It's now 12:21, after midnight. The night was calm, and there were no disturbances. There was nothing going on. Koe had finished reading her book for the night and the ramen she made left her satisfied. As she slept in her bed, she could hear the voices painting her a picture...
"...is dead."
What did it just say?
"The...dead..."
What's dead?
"...King...is..."
Koe's face began to grimace in her sleep, her peaceful slumber starting to get disturbed. The voices became clearer in her dreams.
"The King is..."
"...King...dead."
"...King is dead."
"The King is dead."
This phrase repeated itself multiple times, tormenting the officer.
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
Koe began tossing and turning in her sleep. Each time the phrase was repeated, Koe got flashbacks of her fight with Aku. The pain she went through, the scar she gave him, the blood everywhere. It was almost too much for her. What king? Why was he dead? What did this mean? Why was she hearing this? All of these scary thoughts were making her panic in her sleep as she tossed and turned, moaning and groaning. She just wanted it all to stop. She didn't understand anything.
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
"The King is dead."
The phrase repeated itself a few more times. And then, all at once, a name was uttered.
"Kosho."
Immediately afterwards, Koe shot up in her bed, eyes wide open and scared to death. Her breath was shallow, and her heart beat very quickly. She could hear it in her ears and feel it in her throat. Sweat dripped down from her forehead, and her armpits drenched her V-neck. Before long, she couldn't hold it in anymore. She began crying, holding her face in the palms of her hands. The voices all died down to a murmur in her head. Suddenly, she broke her silence and exclaimed.
"WHO IS DEAD!? WHO!? WHAT FUCKING KING!?" Immediately afterwards, Koe continued crying. She brought her knees up to her face and plunged her head into them, guarding her head with her arms from nonexistent spectators. After another moment of sobbing, Koe slowly lifted her head from her knees again, and asked one more question.
"And...*sniffle*...what the fuck is a 'Kosho?'"
The day is December 18, Age 1289. Koe will never completely forget the events of this night, and what she heard from her voices.
(OOC: I just wanna apologize for the amount of filler I put in this sample post with all the "The King is dead" messages, and everything. I just wanted to add to suspense and show how chilling that dream was for Koe. I will not be doing this in future RP's. Also, the voices saying "The King is dead" and saying Kosho's name isn't going to be happening a lot. Only in solos would it be on that level. If it ever appears in other public threads, it will be at the very beginning as an introduction, like as if the voices are telling her to be there to coincidentally start a thread. I won't be having them try and predict actual major site events or even character events, as they aren't able to do that. I will not metagame or god mod ever, especially with this character.)
