[Thread PL: 90 (For Flavor purposes since this takes place immediately after Fever in Motion. Actual PL as of this thread's start is 295)] [Babystep Weights Active! PL gains doubled!]
It was a bright day out as the sun hung at midday above the tiny island of Bean Sprout illuminating the skies with a beautiful light blue and making the clouds hanging above shine with a radiant color. The coast of the island was dotted with fishing boats of all sizes and colors, all of them filled with fishermen hard at work securing Bean Sprout's main commerce. As the peaceful day carries on a ferry ship appears over the horizon, a small boat that stood out with it's bright red and blue patterned paint job and a logo on the starboard side which read "Southern Star Ferry" advertising it's services to onlookers. One of the ferry's passengers was none other than the cheery Water Elfen Ayami! Finally arriving back to her home village from the battle she participated in this morning against those thugs at Penguin Village. Fishermen waved to the pink haired girl as the ferry sailed right for the port, prompting her to return the gesture with a beaming smile on her face. She knew each and every one of those sailors. Some of them were even there for her "Birth" when she arrived to this world 17 years ago. It wasn't even exclusively the fishermen she knew! Bean Sprout was a tightly knit community of just under 2000 people. When she was young it was much smaller compared to today, but to the inventor this was by no means a bad thing. The Southern Star cut through the tropical blue waters throwing up white sea foam as it did so and leaving a wake in it's trail. This ship was not an odd sight at all in the little island's community - This one and several others like it made daily trips to this island, bringing it's citizens to every major port in the southern hemisphere. South City, Penguin Village, Kame Town... If it had a port, travel there was open to everyone. The people of Bean Sprout rely on these ferry ships every day for many things; Work, family, shopping, and so much more. If fishing was the professio vitae of Bean Sprout, then the ferry services were the things which allowed it to flow more smoothly, like oil to a machine. But this matter was something that was only natural to the people living here. The crimson and azure ship soon arrived at port, slowly docking as the crew onboard began the proper docking procedures. It was a matter that only took a few moments - After all they couldn't spend a quarter of the day for one trip! All of the passengers disembarked the Southern Star of which Ayami was among them. Stepping off of the boat prompted the elfen girl to take a deep breath. The air here was fresh, it smelled of the sea as the occasional breeze blew the salt water over the village. Her home was as ever a peaceful quiet respite from the high-energy of the big cities. As she strolled through the port many of the workers there gave waves and greetings. Some of them even thanking her for things she had assisted with a few days prior!"Hey hey! It's Ayami! Thanks for your help loading those crates onto our ship the other day. You really saved our hides, we were going to be late getting to South City if you hadn't volunteered!"The water elfen gave the man a friendly wave and a nod, to her it wasn't that big of a deal. All that heavy lifting just meant free strength training after all. Besides, helping one's community was always a major priority for the inventor. They had helped her so many times throughout her life, this was just a repayment for that kindness she had been shown. A small group of children running towards the port to play stopped to speak with the elfen, excited about future prospects! Ayami crouched down to their level and gave each of them a playful ruffle of their hair. She had an undeniable soft spot for kids, it was one of her few weaknesses. She hoped one day she could have kids of her own, even if such a prospect was a bit odd for a person like her."Hino! Shino! Omori! It's great to see you three! Listen, if you listen to your parents and make sure to do all your chores I'll let you test out another one of my inventions soon!"The three hyperactive kids screamed and shouted in pure joy at this as they all ran off, the elfen inventor let out a playful giggle as she watched them leave, it was just another normal thing in this village. Kids roamed the streets playing without a care in the world. After all in such a secluded community there was very little risk. Even Ayami played freely during her childhood years. When everyone knew each other and strangers rarely lurked in places adults didn't watch parents could let their children loose for the day and simply tend to their daily work. While Bean Sprout was by no means ancient some lifestyles enjoyed here would seem alien to most outsiders. The world may enjoy peace but peace didn't mean the exclusion of those with malicious intent. It was simply one more fact that served to remind the young inventor of why she loved her home. The village boomed with life - It always did at noon. It was when the foot traffic from outside tourists was highest, and thus when the community was busiest. Though it lacked in major entertainment venues, Bean Sprout was not without it's conveniences. Within the last decade such wonderful additions included a convenience store, a medical clinic, a meeting hall for the villagers to discuss happenings in their community, and even a school which to the glee of the villagers removed the difficult necessity for kids having to ride the ferries to South City every day, something Ayami herself unfortunately had to do for a very long time. The convenience store carries many imports from the mainland, though it's prices are a little higher due to the costs of importing. For some this is a fair trade for having a grocer right in their very own neighborhood, especially when it comes with the added benefit of having a personal friendship with the proprietor.
The medical clinic was without a doubt the largest structure on Bean Sprout, it had to be after all. Though not as well equipped as a proper hospital this clinic has several wings necessary to carry out the needs of the islanders with a higher focus on the geriatric. It included such wings as a single room ER, a pharmacy - Something typically only found in large scale hospitals, a physical therapy wing, and enough hospital rooms to house ten patients on a long-term basis. Naturally despite the lack of imminent danger living on an island like this posed, quick access to medical professionals was a necessity for life. It goes without saying that the medical clinic was the first of Bean Sprout's major additions. The elfen walked the streets towards the town square with a certain spring in her step. - After all if she was going to meet up with Tomina and Atsuko it was best to be in a major spot where it was easy to locate her! Visiting the person who could help them out was a step that would come only AFTER the trio had been reunited. For it's small size Bean Sprout still lended the need for knowing where things were and where you were going. She was excited to show to her new friends the wonderful place she lived in. So maaaaybe this wasn't entirely just so they could train and grow stronger. But Ayami never got to invite friends to her home! That she could do this AND prepare them for what was to come was just a nice bonus, like fitting two gears to one spoke! Lost in her thoughts, Ayami was suddenly broken out of her stupor by a voice calling out to her. A middle aged woman the inventor knew well! The woman approached the elfen and gave her a respectful bow, to which Ayami returned the favor in her own showing of respect. The woman began to speak, explaining why she called out to the elfen inventor so eagerly."Ayami dear! I just heard over the phone a half hour ago! My sister lives in Penguin village and found out about how you protected them from some AWFUL ruffians! They had apparently been harassing residents for months! My sister said that it was about time someone "Kicked their hides to the curb" and I couldn't agree more! Please accept my gratitude for protecting family!"The elfen girl waved a hand in panicked dismissal, she wasn't too used to receiving praise for this kind of thing. Not to this degree anyway..."Oh, Mrs. Hanamori! I-It's really not a big deal! I just happened to be in the right place at the right time y'know? H...Heheh!"Ayami gave the woman a bashful smile, trying to deflect the copious amounts of praise she was receiving for something she didn't even realize was that serious of a problem."Well just the same I think it's wonderful that you youngsters are taking action on our behalf! It warms my heart to see you carrying your family's legacy like this! Would you like some pepper sprout stew? I just finished cooking some!"The elfen simply shook her head at the offer, politely declining. She had somewhere important to be after all!"Sorry. I'd love to but I've gotta be somewhere! I'm meeting up with some friends!"With a smile the older woman gave a nod of understanding."Alright dear. Say hello to your Grandma for me!"Ayami turns and begins to walk off after giving Mrs Hanamori a wave goodbye. The elfen's pace increased as she hurried to get to her "designated spot" that no one but herself had deemed important. ... Oops."I will! Seeya around!"Thankfully Bean Sprout was not a big place. It wasn't a big place and it showed in that the elfen girl was able to clear the distance to her destination from a temporary detour in short order. The convenience store provided much needed shade from the beaming sun above. It was in a centralized location and the colorful vending machine out front helped draw the attention of passerby to it. The pink haired inventor deigned this as enough of a landmark in order for the sisters to find her easily enough. Even on the off chance they arrived on the other side of the island. She chose a spot on the pavement to sit with her legs crossed and wait for her newfound companions to arrive. She watched the villagers go to and fro, walking from busywork to busywork or from the store to their homes, or even just to visit friends. There were a lot of unfamiliar faces walking the streets, but such a thing was normal. Despite the utter lack of entertainment here, Bean Sprout was a beautiful island teeming with nature. From the small animals that called it home to the many species of palm and tropical flora, to the radiant white sands of the beaches, despite being an insignificant place, many came just to take in the sights for a day, or to unwind and get away from the bustle of the big city. Regardless of their reasons, tourists were...Well, thankfully pretty reserved. If only because most of them knew they couldn't get away with being trouble makers. Villagers and tourists alike would occasionally wave to the elfen as they passed by, prompting her to wave back each and every time. The store's proprietor Mr. Ashido stepped out to sweep the sidewalk in front of his store, his face lit up once he saw that familiar pink hair sitting right outside! He stepped over with a wave."Hello there Ayami! What brings you here today? I just got in new martial arts magazines recently! I know you're always eager to read more of those."With a bright grin that could rival the sun Ayami looked up at the gentle man and began to speak to him."Hi Mr. Ashido! No thanks, I don't have time to read unfortunately! Maybe later though! I'm waiting on friends to show up!"Friends? This prompted the man to scratch his head. It wasn't often the elfen came here waiting on someone. All the same he dug into the pocket of his store apron, producing a packaged Popsicle and extending it towards her."Well if you're going to wait out here it's always nice to have something to keep you cool, don't you think? Take it, my treat! You're always bragging to people about my shop. Free advertising is worth it's weight in gold you know!"The young inventor accepted the gift with a grateful smile, giving him a nod in agreeance with the point he made."Thanks Mr. Ashido!"And so Ayami waited for the two sisters, the half blood and the albino underneath the afternoon shade of the shop, eating away at an ice cold Popsicle to stave off the heat. Well she would certainly stand out if the other two went looking for her! Tomina AtsukoOOC Notes: please feel free to RP out interactions with villagers and tourists! I wrote this indepth on the place specifically so you could!

[Thread PL: 345 (Flavored as 180)]] [Suppressed to 5 AFTER she lands on the island] The Saiyan was taking a very different method to arrive at the island than Ayami did; open flight to be exact! As a consequence her energy could be easily sensed since she was using more of her power to actually get some speed in there. Not that she was coming this far to actually cause a problem, but for anyone that could actually sense Ki, it was definitely like shooting up a flare compared to the normal population. Her own appearance didn't make things any easier in that regard.
Atsuko lands on the island, still clad in that armor and with a sword sheathed at her side. If this village seemed low-tech compared to the rest of Earth, then this Saiyan still somehow managed to look like a time traveler from another era. She cuts a rather imposing figure, but at the same time... Three kids ran up to her as if she wasn't out of place in the slightest, instead looking up at her with awe. The Knight couldn't help but smile underneath her helmet as she turned to the trio of children, she kneels down in front of them." Hello." , she gives them a simple greeting. It doesn't take much more than that to get the kids stirred up with excitement. " Are you a real Knight, miss?!" , one question flew out without reservation, and similar questions followed suit. Surprisingly enough, Atsuko was actually taking the time to address each question. It made for an odd sight, a normally intimidating warrior being nothing short of friendly, and like some sort of living hero walking around in the town to the perspective of the gathered children.
Eventually however, they remember that they really need to get to doing their chores. A few excited waves and then they run off on their way. The Knight stands up. " Seems like a nice place... Definitely more peaceful than the cities I've been to." Atsuko noted that even though she was getting stares here, people weren't afraid of her. Even the children weren't, it was a pretty stark contrast to the cities. There must be practically no crime here to speak of... That explained why Ayami acted the way she did in regards to those thugs.
She waits a bit for Tomina to arrive, and then begins making her way around the island. Along the way she also suppresses her power back down to an average level, so as not to stir up any trouble. It does start to dawn on her that she didn't exactly get information on where to meet with Ayami aside from just the general island itself. But, that was okay. The Saiyan starts by closing her eyes and focusing on the energy around her. Most of it was about what she expected; average energy sources... A few that were stronger, clearly belonging to Martial Artists of some variety.
But there was one in particular that caught her attention, because it was one that she felt very clearly before; that was Ayami! " That was easy." , she comments mainly to herself, and then begins walking in the direction that she can feel Ayami's power from.
Along the way, most people just went about their business, not really paying Atsuko any mind other than the occasional wave or greeting. Both of which the Knight would return while focusing on the task at hand. Eventually she comes to a humble store, and just outside of it she spots the Elfen snacking away on a frozen treat.
Atsuko approaches casually and gives a wave. " Hello, Ayami. I spent a little bit getting used to the island; it's a nice place." , she then states. Ayami Tomina

[Thread PL: 174 (flavor of 138 PL for the purposes of this thread)] [Suppressed PL: 5] Once again, Tomina found herself accompanying her sister on a journey to another place. Tomina did love just seeing different places and the sights they had to offer. It was one of the few things she liked about her previously nomadic lifestyle. Although it was made all the better when she had someone to interact with. Tomina had marveled at the island from above as she descended. It was a pretty place, with the water surrounding it. Tomina wasn’t exactly fond of water, but as long as she wasn’t in it then she could appreciate how it looked. It certainly added to the ambiance of the town. She envied Ayami a little, having grown up in a nice place like this. It wasn’t something she would hold against the water user, but oftentimes she wondered how her life had turned out if she had a family from the beginning. She wasn’t too far behind Atsuko. Tomina landed down shortly after the knight arrived. She chuckled to herself as the kids surrounded her and bombarded her with questions. Tomina herself didn’t speak to them: it was much more interesting seeing them crowd her sister. Tomina caught up to Atsuko after she separated from the kids, walking beside her. “Looks like you’re popular with the kids, oh heroic knight.” Tomina nudged her sister with her elbow a couple times, giving her a cheeky grin. She then looked around, noting the reactions of the villagers. “A tight-knit community like this is bound to be more tolerant than a big city would be. Everyone here probably knows one another. So there’s a stronger bond between all of them.” It didn’t take them long to meet up with the person they were meeting up with. She gave Ayami a brief wave, looking around a bit more before walking up to her. “No kidding sis. Man, I wish I had grown up in a place like this. It’s nice as hell. How ya doing Ayami?”

For some the sunshine would have been harsh. But for islanders it was just a normal thing to be sure. Ayami, the store's owner, the citizens going about their business, all of them seemed completely unphased and - at worst just lightly fatigued. Even the elderly residents much to the surprise of most people who visited here. Perhaps even to the two particularly powerful visitors? Speaking of: Tomina and Atsuko soon arrived on the scene, giving a wave to the water elfen! Ayami wasted no time returning the greeting with a bright smile on her face as she stood up and skipped over to the pair."Really?! That's great! But I betcha haven't seen allll the cool spots here! It can be boring sometimes but...I like it, it's my home. I'm doing fantastic Mina! It's always nice to be back here again y'know! Maybe you two can come stay longer when things calm down? We have plenty of room at my home!"The proprietor of the store gave a small wave towards the two as he continued to sweep the sidewalk outside his store. His curiosity was piked as he turned to face the water elfen, poised with a question on his mind."These your friends? My they certainly look...Different! Is the one in the armor gonna be okay? It gets pretty hot in the afternoons here."The elfen gave an excited nod in response, happy to answer his question without even an ounce of hesitance."Yep! They're from reaaaallly far away I think! Who Atsuko? No she'll be fine. She literally never takes that stuff off."Ayami chuckled at her small joke. Not that it was an entirely WRONG assessment of the knight, joke or not...That one probably hit a little too close to home for certain people of a pink persuasion. Setting all of that aside... It was time to introduce her friends to this place! Or more specifically, to her home!"Right, well if you two are ready we can go visit the one person who can help us with our problem! We can go sight seeing later, I promise I'll show you around when we have time! There's so many cool spots outside the village!!!"So long as the two sisters were prepared Ayami would finish off her Popsicle, throw away the stick into a trash can, and began walking leisurely out of town! She gave a wave goodbye to the store's owner as she left, prompting him to give one in response as he resumed his daily busywork. The trip was scenic and only further served to display this island's beauty to the two visitors. Every single house was well kept - If not by their owners then by neighbors who always lent a hand to those who had a bit of a harder time on upkeep. Certainly none of this was for outside appearances, though they may have gotten no shortage of tourists it was clear that this level of upkeep was for their own personal pride. A pride for one's home. As the trio got further and further out of the village the houses became more sparse and spread out, but they were none the less well kept. A woman hanging out her laundry waved to the three girls, prompting Ayami to wave back before the woman spoke up; calling out to them."Word is going around town about how you handled those no good punks at Penguin Village! Ayami dear, please be careful! We do appreciate your effort but none of us here want to see you hurt!"The water elfen grinned, looking back to the two sisters following her before looking over at the woman and speaking up."Don't worry Mrs. Yamada! I had help from two real strong people!"The water elfen continued on her way after the brief exchange. They had finally left behind the greater village and were now in the "countryside"It was just as beautiful as the village itself - Perhaps even more so. Beansprout's untamed wilderness coalesced with farms to create the perfect synchronization between man and nature. Mountains covered from peak to base in vibrant green trees gave way to plowed fields packed with healthy crops from various types of bean plants to rice crops. The road outside of town was rough but still well paved, as expected of a small island, the cost of infrastructure was not quite as high as would be expected on the mainland. Farmers of all ages and builds worked away at their crops as the sun beat down overhead. Most were far too busy to pay notice to everyone walking the roads, but the few who did take notice gave a short greeting and exchanged waves before returning to their work. The water elfen took in a nice deep breath before exhaling contentedly, stretching a bit as she walked. Soon after she finished this however she turned around to face her two compatriots, walking backwards as she did so."We're not far now! Just wait till you meet THEM. You're gonna get so much stronger your heads'll spin y'know?! I think they'll take a lot of interest in you two as well. Plus you're gonna get to see where I live!!!"True to her word as they made their way down the road which winded through the mountains they eventually reached the coastline. But more interesting than just a coast, there was something else that met their gaze as they arrived...The brick-paved road curved downwards past two carved rockwalls with statues of lions jutting out from their peaks. Ahead the path they were to take could already be seen: A natural bridge of sand connecting Beansprout with an even smaller island which was almost perfectly round. The island was dominated by a mountain of it's own which ended in two peaks which were asymmetrical in height. If one looked closely they could likely already see their ultimate destination; a clearing inbetween the two peaks which played host to a temple-like structure. Though it was also clearly not a place of worship, but a place of rest.Though it seemed imposing from a distance it was clear that if this was where Ayami lived then it couldn't have been dangerous...Unless perhaps she was some kind of thrill seeker. She turned to look at the other two and motioned for them to keep following. The water elfen strolled down the slope and along the sandbank that led to the adjoined island. The ocean waves danced along the edges of their natural bridge creating a rhythmic sound that helped to calm one's mind...Ruined stone structures jutting out from the sea around this natural bridge revealed that once long ago there were man-made objects here. Perhaps a bridge of some sort? But this sandbank rendered the need for such a thing obsolete. At times the waves might rise over it, but the inventor was capable of controlling them. - Such a risk was less than 0% with her navigating the trail for the trio."Pretty cool right?! We're almost there! Just gotta make it up the mountain trail!"As they made it back onto solid land a stone brick path met them, one not unlike the path which sloped down onto the sand bar behind them. The road ahead twisted and turned up the side of the mountain and was surprisingly well-kept despite how far it was from the village. A couple of people in Gis met the trio on their way up, giving a wave as they passed by. The road upwards was even more beautiful than the road that brought them here. Cherry trees blossomed with white petals which fell down at random intervals as the sea breeze swept across the road filling their journey with the smell of the sea and the sights of a forest. It was likely surprising to most how energetic the inventor girl was given her home environment stood opposite to that personality. As they continued to ascend the mountain they passed by a small shack which was well kept on the outside. It was different from the village architecturally - Wooden beams with brass fittings kept the roof held up and windows with iron lattice stood to decorate it's front. A sign hung above the door swinging every time the wind picked up. The sign indicated this structure's name and purpose: "Deep Blue Workshop". The elfen's eyes practically beamed as she looked back at her visitors, eager to share info on it."This is my workshop!!! It's where I make all of my AMAZING inventions!!! Later I'll give you a full tour of it! But first thing's first...We gotta go see someone important! They're waiting for us as we speak! It's just a little ways further up, we're almost there!"As the trio would crest the last sloped path the trees gave way to a clearing, and within this clearing the structure which from so far back was difficult to see in proper detail now revealed itself to them properly. to say it was a modest residence would be an overstatement. The home was sprawling and every inch of the clearing was clearly the property of this residence as every space had a purpose. The grounds held such things that were clearly designed for training students in the way of martial arts. A gazebo which held an tatami mat sparring square underneath, wooden posts which held training dummies upon them, a zen garden surrounding three ponds all of which held koi fish and water lilies, and even stones placed above that were flat and wide enough for people to sit on them. This place was like something out of a comic book. The home itself was a mansion, there was no arguing as much. The path led straight to the front door, and off to the side? A massive statue of a woman lounging on her side sat as a silent guard over this entire residence. The air here was...Still. Unlike the path to reach this place that was at the mercy of the sea breeze, the trees stood as a vigil for the entire clearing against the winds. It was quiet, only the sound of birdsong broke through...But it was peaceful. As they approached the home the water elfen extended her arms, grinning."Well, this is it! Welcome to my house!" Atsuko smiled as Tomina tried teasing the Knight about her earlier popularity. " It's not too surprising. When I was a kid, I grew up idolizing everything to do with Knights. I guess it wasn't helped by the fact that Mother reminded me so much of them, too. Just the way she carried herself..." , she explains, and the way she spoke about it implied that she was proud to be living up to those kinds of stories and legends. This island had such a peaceful atmosphere, it was easy to forget everything else for a bit.
Even the fact that the Saiyan really should be preparing for all-out war with the ones that were after the Knights of Yama... Well, another reason she wasn't worried about that is because Ayami insisted there was someone here that could train them up in no time. Atsuko found that prospect to be enticing. Either way, she gives a nod as Tomina explains this being a tight-knit community meant that it would feel different to something like the cities as a result... Makes perfect sense, really." Yeah. There's a feeling of camaraderie that I just haven't seen anywhere else on Earth so far. It's pretty refreshing." , she comments. It was definitely way hotter than the region she had grown up in, but there was such undeniably fresh air, too. This whole island was well cared for, and it showed. Once they found Ayami, the storekeeper expressed his concerns over Atsuko's safety." Haha, Ayami's right. I'll be fine." , she chimes in. The Elfen doesn't take too long to get straight to the point either, asking if the pair of sisters were ready to meet "one person who can help with their problem". How mysterious... It prompted the Saiyan to grow thoughtful. " Well, now my curiosity is piqued. I'm perfectly ready!" Keeping pace with Ayami was pretty easy, everyone was more interested in just soaking in the lovely atmosphere. While it wasn't completely quiet, it was far from the chaotic sounds you'd hear in the city too. It was a lively bustle that you couldn't help but think "Yeah, people are making it work here", or something along those lines. Out of the corner of her eye she can see someone waving, and looking over shows it to be a woman addressing Ayami.
The Elfen merely grins at the concern showcased and points out that she had help from two strong people. " Speaking of that... Aren't you a little worried that those thugs might try to follow you here with their boss and stir up trouble?" , the Saiyan asked, keeping her voice low so as not to disturb anyone that didn't need to be.
Eventually they were brought into the countryside, and it was here that Ayami started talking about these mysterious benefactors once more. Atsuko couldn't help but find the enthusiasm a bit infectious. " "THEM", huh? I hope I live up to expectations." She wondered just what the place that Ayami grew up in was like too. Well, they'd be finding out shortly! Reaching the coastline gave the largest hint thus far; an offshoot islet connected by a natural sand bridge... From this distance it was a little hard to pick out all of the details of the structure that lay ahead, but they would be constantly making their way closer too.
The Elfen showcased her ability to control the water along the way, too. Keeping the waves from becoming too violent as they crossed. Not that there was any danger of anyone being washed away, but it was still a show of how much control Ayami had when she put her mind to it. The closer they got, the more of a nostalgic feeling that Atsuko got from it. A mountain path leading up to a temple..." I'm feeling a little homesick now." , Atsuko commented, giving a hint as to what her own home life was like. She took to the mountain trail with gusto, easily keeping pace with Ayami, even in all of that heavy armor and her robes.
Along the way, they were passing by several people in Gis, and most notably was a small shack that held a sign designating it as a workshop. What Ayami had to say about it cleared up all doubts as well. Atsuko only gave a calm nod in response. " I look forward to the tour." Finally, they arrived at their ultimate destination... It was a humble, yet efficient residence. Large enough to serve the purpose of training students, but not so large that it was in excess. It reminded her a lot of the Monastery that she grew up in, too. Minus the lack of snow, she kept expecting Micaela to come out and greet her... The Saiyan might have to make a return trip there soon. Maybe she could bring some of the people she's met as well." Nostalgic." , she states, taking a deep breath as she appreciates her surroundings. " I know it's not my home, but I'm still half tempted to just jump into training. That's how natural it feels." Even without seeing her face, it was pretty clear just how long Atsuko had spent missing the place she grew up in. Ayami Tomina

A picture entered its way into Tomina’s head, causing her to smirk at Atsuko “You were obsessed with knighthood from the beginning huh? I wouldn’t be surprised if you walked around in a tiny suit of armor as a kid. Cape, helmet and everything.”
Tomina said teasingly. She deliberately avoided talking about Atsuko’s mother though. In truth that was a rather touchy matter. Despite knowing that Atsuko was her sister, she had never met the person who had raised her. It made Tomina feel like an outsider sometimes. She hated that feeling: looking in on everyone else from the outside. It’s how she had lived most of her life. So she avoided it however she could. Hiding behind teasing Atsuko was an easy way to do that.
Likewise, it made Tomina a bit jealous of the community she was walking through right now. Ayami grew up in a wonderful place. Why couldn’t she have had something decent? True she wouldn’t have met Lucy if she had. But the cold nights and the hunger were horrible. Even now she didn’t have as much as other people. Not that she wanted that many material things. But there were intangible things that she felt like she’d never truly have.
After Tomina and Atsuko met up with Ayami, Tomina was uncharastically quiet throughout the walk through the mountains. Which was particularly unusual, since Atsuko brought up the boss of those thugs. Tomina normally would have jumped at the chance for a fight. But she seemed lost in her own thoughts. She just took in the scenery, looking around at the scenery. It wasn’t until they started talking about the training that Tomina spoke up.
“I hope so. I can’t afford to slack off now. Otherwise, everyone is going to leave me in the dust.”
It was already starting to happen. Tomina knew that she was at a disadvantage compared to everyone else. Tomina knew her greatest strength was in her elemental abilities. They increased her power exponentially. But she was too scared to use them. She didn’t want to lose control. And that put a limit to how much stronger she could get. People close to her in power would be easily able to edge her out. She had to get control, no matter what.
Tomina had kept to the rear the entire way down the trail, walking behind the other two women. When they got to their destination, she felt another ping of envy. Looking around, she saw an awesome living space that Ayami had. The extravagance was something she was not used to dealing with. Still she forced herself to smile at Ayami.
“It’s hella awesome! And you have plenty of your element to work with. Those ponds are probably useful in training. It isn’t that convenient for me, that’s for sure. Fire’s hard to come by in the wild.”

The knight had expressed concern over the safety of the islanders after the encounter the water elfen had with those vindictive criminals. It was true that they might have come here picking a fight if it were any other island, but Beansprout was different for a reason most south islanders were actually fully aware. - And it was this reason that kept any petty crooks and troublemakers at a great distance. It was this reasoning that was unknown to those outside of the region... And as Ayami explained to Atsuko exactly why this wasn't an issue she rested her head on her hands as she leaned back slightly."Nah, I'm not worried about that at all. My family have been guarding this island for centuries. Everyone in the region knows not to mess with Beansprout 'cause my whole family is super skilled! Wait till you meet HER. Then it'll all make sense!"The elfen inventor chuckled playfully as she watched the other two react to the place. To Ayami it wasn't anything that special, sure to outsiders it was a mansion on a private island. But to her it was just...Home. Her family had lived here for centuries, it wasn't like she was some spoiled rich kid. The land was hard earned and it was a reward that every single generation had to pay for with hard work and diligent training. From an outside perspective jealousy, perhaps resentment might have existed...But it simply wasn't the truth. Atsuko seemed nostalgic over the surroundings she found herself in, and Ayami gave a bright grin at that."Nyehehe...I see, I see!"Still...The elfen inventor stopped smiling for a moment as she saw how forced Tomina's smile was. A painful smile like that only made the water elfen concerned...And her expression told the entire story. She was worried for Tomina, even if she didn't know exactly why. She forced a smile of her own, rubbing the back of her head as she tried to divert the issue away, not wanting to patronize the fire elfen."Well...SHE will see to that y'know!"Ayami approached the home's front entrance, stopping for only a moment as she turned to face the statue. The energetic atmosphere of this girl vanished for only a brief moment as she clapped her hands lightly and gave the statue a respectful graceful bow in complete silence. As the peaceful moment disappeared her same old eccentric aura returned and she approached the front door, giving the door three forceful raps with the back of her right hand."OOIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! GRAMMA I'M HOME! I BROUGHT GUESTS!!!"Complete silence fell across the entire area as the water elfen waited at the door and occasionally stole glances at her two companions. From this girl's energetic shout the identity of their mysterious benefactor had been revealed all at once. Combined with Ayami's earlier statement regarding her family's traditional role it was clear that her Grandmother was not only the family matriarch but the master who would be bestowing wisdom upon the trio. Suddenly sound breaks the silence! A slow forceful tap that echoed out only once every few seconds...This continued for a moment up until the door finally slid open! Out from the shade of the interior stepped none other than...A short frail old woman who seemed quite grumpy...Her hair was the same color as the inventor's, though the hairstyle was far different. She walked rather slowly with a cane in hand. She stood at 4'5" and wore a green and white outfit with a pink tabbard. Her most strange feature however was the bandages she wore on her right arm. - The extended from her shoulder all the way down to the very tips of her fingers. Was it an injury? She certainly didn't seem to be in pain like an entire bandaged arm would imply. Setting her appearance aside her stature was firm. Despite the need for a cane it was clear that she wasn't frail in the slightest. Perhaps the cane was only for show. Her power level was quite absurd for someone of her size and age: 300 PL if one took the time to read it. It was clear that despite how she looked she was not someone to be taken lightly. She looks up at the trio rubbing her chin."Hmmm...And who exactly have you brought to our home this time?"The old woman hobbles forward towards the knight, looking up at the young saiyan with a piercing glare that could invade one's very soul."That's armor I haven't seen in a VERY long time...And...I see you've got a tag along with you."The water elfen blinks as she watches her grandmother assess the knight, curious by her choice of words...She inquires what exactly Aya meant by that."What? Like a ghost or somethin'?"The old woman looks up at her granddaughter and shakes her head disapprovingly"Nonsense. I don't have time for ghost stories. It makes no difference to me who's in there."The elderly woman then slowly approaches Tomina, tap...tap...tap...Her cane approached ahead of her the entire time until she finally reached the young halfling, looking up at her with the same soul-piercing gaze she gave to Atsuko."You've got a fire in your eyes. Untamed and passionate. And perhaps some trauma...Tell me...Do you fear the inferno growing inside of you?"Ayami rubs the back of her head, clearing her throat to make her grandmother aware of her presence."So...You might already know what's up but...Please please PLEASE train us!!! We really need your help!!!"The water elfen bowed her head in shame and respect!!! She begged her grandmother desperately for the help only Aya could provide to the trio. The old woman looked at her child in silence, listening to her plea...And then turned around heading for the front door."Absolutely not.""SHE TURNED IT DOOOOWWNNN?!?!?!"The inventor got on her hands and knees practically crying as she whined and whimpered."But why noooot?!"The elderly woman continued heading back inside slowly, not even turning around to look back at them."Because you've gotten yourself into a mess that's YOUR responsibility to clean up! I can't coddle you every time you make a mistake child!"The water elfen grabbed onto her grandma's skirt, slowly...Very slowly being dragged along behind the old woman."But...But...They need your help! They want to learn! They wanna grow strong!"The woman didn't change her stern tone. She cared for Ayami as if the elfen were her own daughter, but she simply couldn't get involved."There are many other masters who would be willing to teach you then. I am completely unconcerned with "growing strong". If I gave even an ounce of care towards such endeavors I would have given up my soul long ago."The elfen finally released her grandmother's skirt slumping onto the pavement below...She raised her head, her tone shifting to one that was far more serious."We don't HAVE anyone else. A whole village is going to be destroyed if we don't do something, but... ... But we need to learn control. I need to learn control. If we can't then so many people are going to get hurt and it's... All my fault..."The old woman stopped dead in her tracks, remaining completely silent for a moment...Ayami looked up at her with a fire of passion filling her eyes. The elder matriarch sighed...And began to speak."Are you prepared to throw everything you know about fighting out the window?" Atsuko Tomina

Ayami ended up explaining that she wasn't worried about anyone coming here to cause trouble; apparently her whole family had a history of keeping this place well protected. The Knight was pretty impressed by that... That kind of reputation was hard to earn, to be able to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. Tomina also decided to chime in by commenting on what she thought Atsuko must have been like as a child.
It prompted a small laugh out of the Saiyan. " Well, I won't deny that it was fun to play around as a Knight. Never had anything that convincing, though." , she admits, surprisingly taking the teasing in stride. It isn't lost on her that Tomina is looking and acting a bit off, though... At first the Albino Saiyan left it alone, but she made note of it.
The only time her sister spoke up again was when the subject of training came up. " Sis... You're plenty strong. You'll get stronger too, and most importantly you'll learn how to control your power. If I could do it, you can too. I promise." , she offered her best attempt at comforting words. She didn't like seeing Tomina down in the dumps like this.
Or having to force a smile while commenting on how amazing something else was. She knew why, or at least some parts of it if not the whole story. There was a lot that Atsuko wanted to address, but she wanted to think over the right time and place to do so. Tomina might not like something deeply personal being brought up so haphazardly in public, so she relented for the moment. Ayami took the charge on that in her own way, in any case. Promising that this mysterious individual would be able to help her with that power.
It didn't take very long for things to get noisy, either. Ayami certainly had a powerful set of lungs... The eerie silence in the air didn't hold for very long either, as soon the door was opened and out stepped an old woman. Right away, the Knight could tell that this was the real deal; that power was immense! But there were more important things to focus on. Soul piercing gaze was met in kind as the Albino Saiyan stared back at the old woman.
Something raised an alarm in her head. She recognized this armor, or at least this style of armor. Instantaneously it put Atsuko on edge, though she didn't show it by much. Very subtle, slight shifts in her stance. Rather than anything offensive, it was defensive. As if she was ready to go on the back foot and cut her losses. It wasn't the instincts of a total novice, either. Whoever trained her, they did it well. There was a definite power and skill gap, but she had a good handle on Martial Arts.
She showed excellent restraint and control, too. Despite the fact that she was so on edge, she didn't even let her energy ripple in the slightest. After a brief silence she finally speaks. " You recognize this armor?" , Atsuko asks. She recalled what Micaela had to say about all of this.
She was to be extremely careful about her identity. Though she highly doubted that Ayami or anyone she trusted would actually be a part of those assassins, she couldn't help the reflexes taking over. Eventually the old woman simply moves away after discrediting the notion of having 'seen a ghost', and not caring who was in the armor. Slowly, but surely the Knight would begin to ease.
Watching everything else play out left the Saiyan feeling rather conflicted. At first it seemed as though the old woman might actually help Tomina with that power of hers, but then she simply refuses to train the three of them! The Elfen was far from giving up however. What followed was a pretty intense back and forth that eventually culminated in Ayami's true emotions bursting forth." ... Ayami. You don't need to worry. If it came down to that, I would face those thugs myself." , well, the Saiyan was certainly not lacking for confidence. She said it so naturally that it came across as 'having no other option.' There are many subtle things one can pick up when they're as skilled as the old woman is." Even so... We would appreciate your training. I can't deny that I need to be better to defend those people." , she then finally added towards Ayami's grandmother. Ayami Tomina

Tomina chuckled. “I bet you had to settle for a wooden sword and a shower curtain for a cape.”
Tomina teased. She had to admit, that was a pretty funny image. Atsuko probably didn’t go that far, but she would have paid money to see that. Unfortunately, Atsuko seemed to have enough sense not to end up in an embarrassing outfit. Tomina figured that this meant she wasn’t very sensible, but that was nothing she didn’t already know.
Tomina rubbed the back of her neck, giving Atsuko another smile. “Of course I’ll get stronger Atsuko. That’s something I intend on doing no matter what. If I don’t get the training I need to control my fire powers, then I’ll find another way.”
Tomina was resolved to go forward no matter what. Although she was worried about the possibility of never getting control of her fire abilities. She instinctively knew that her fire powers gave her an immense boost. She didn’t know how much, but she could feel that it would be severe if she never mastered it. Those fears once again were confirmed by the short woman who had emerged from Ayami’s home. Her eyes widened, and she stared at Aya in complete shock.
“Yeah.”
Tomina looked down at the ground. She was at a loss for words. This woman had just read her completely like a book. Atsuko reading her was one thing. But to have a stranger just read her like that. Was she that obvious? Obviously, since she was read easily. And that fire started to stir when the old woman refused to train them. She looked up, scowling at the woman.
“If it was just about getting strong, then you’re right. There are plenty of other ways to get more power. But there aren’t many masters out there with elemental control. I have no power over my flames once they come out. They just destroy everything they come into contact with. You’re right, I’m afraid. That fire is going to hurt someone again if I don’t learn how to control it. Cause it’s not a matter of if it’s going to come out, but when. And nobody deserves to be burned alive, including those assholes in that gang. I don’t care what I have to do to accomplish it, but I need to be able to master that.”
Tomina kept her eyes on the old woman, her scowl ever present on her face. She knew that it was Ayami’s grandmother, so she did her best on her word choice. Even though flowery language wasn’t exactly her strength. But she couldn’t disguise the fiery tone that accompanied her words. If it was taken in as rude, then so be it. But she wasn’t going to back down from the chance to master the one thing she truly needed to.

The elder listened to the three of them speak. They weren't just...Begging like someone seeking a free meal. All three of them carried conviction in their voices. In some ways perhaps it reminded her of herself and how hard she sought to learn her family's trade. The knight spoke of personal responsibility, the water user spoke of wanting to solve the problem she had created, the fire user spoke of wanting to control her powers because...Even a villain didn't deserve to be consumed by the flames. Each one of them hit the matriarch to her core without even realizing it. If one had perhaps been paying close enough attention they might have caught sight of the old woman's hands shake very subtly as they gripped onto her wooden cane. Aya turned her head to look at the trio, a stern expression plastered across her face as she turned around and began to hobble into her home."Well...Don't just stand there looking lost. Come in, come in. We can discuss it over tea before we begin."The water elfen stood up onto her feet, looking back to the other two with a soft smile. She motioned for the other two to come in before doing so herself. The inside of their home was even more beautiful than the outside in some regards. Centuries old tapestries lined the oak wood walls and a table at the front door way held several family heirlooms on display, all of them likely older than dirt itself. The floors were old - Oh how they were old. They creaked with every step taken on them. But they were well kept, and even had a light gleam of cleanliness to them. The windows were decorated with lattices which had artwork carved into them and the floorboards which lined the bottom of every wall was the same. The water elfen took off her shoes at the entrance and deposited them onto a shelf placed adjacent to the door. She then turned and bowed to the door before continuing to follow her Grandmother down a hallway which was lit by sunlight beaming in from outside. As they walked down the hallway Aya took the time to speak to them, and...Answer some questions that had been posed to her earlier. The knight took notice of how the matriarch recognized the armor she wore. Aya could only let out an amused chuckle recalling just how on edge Atsuko had become in response to that."Of course I recognize that armor. I fought alongside the Knights of Yama plenty of times. So did my father. ... I didn't think one of you would be showing up to my doorstep. So many of them left. They were... seduced by greed, demoralized by evil. It takes a vigilant eye to keep true evil at bay."The young inventor walked alongside her grandmother, amazed by the story she was telling."You never told me about the knights, Gramma. What were they like back then?"The matriarch gave a gentle, warm smile...The first one the two sisters have seen since they arrived. It seems that her memories were fond judging from this."They gleamed like the brightest stars. Growing up in a family who held to tradition and utility over style and grace you can imagine how I was entranced by them. But the brighter a star is, the sooner before it dims into the shadows. They were powerful warriors, and incredible mages ... And...Good friends."The old woman's smile faded, replaced by an expression that displayed unimaginable sadness. Oh she tried to hide it from them, but it was clear from the heavy air of silence that there was something she would rather not speak of. But soon the conversation was interrupted anyway. The four came to a sliding door and with a swift pull of its handle, it opened to reveal a room within. It was a sitting room that was just as well kept as the hallways. On top of the green tatami flooring lied a short table in the center of the room surrounded by four sitting pillows on it's sides and a smaller table with a vase resting on it adjacent to the table. On top of the table sat a tea set. Several ornate cups made of fine ivory and a silver tea pot which was already filled with warm tea. The room was well lit due to the doorway which opened out into the yard outside. The room was peacefully quiet, the only sounds permeating this sacred place being bird song and the occasional chime of wind chimes which were hung above the doorway."Come, have a seat."Both the elderly master and her granddaughter took seats next to each other, leaving two more seats open for the sisters to join in. Once everyone had been seated the matriarch set out tea cups for each of them and began to fill the cups with green tea. tea which was leaving a trail of steam as it sat idly. Aya looked over at Tomina as she poured out tea for all four of them and began to speak."Maybe you're wondering how exactly I could have guessed that you were afraid of your power. ... I hate to break the illusion but it wasn't any kind of sage arts. I've just seen a lot of kids like you in my time being a master. I hope you won't mind my saying so but you have a tough posture. You've...Dealt with a lot of hardship haven't you?"The woman finished pouring tea and moved to a relaxed sitting posture, simply watching Tomina before continuing."... Your power doesn't make you a monster. We're all only as guilty as we've learned to be. I can't possibly know what you've dealt with. - And I'm not going to ask you to tell me. But I can tell from the look in your eyes that you aren't someone who likes to hurt others, and that's good enough for me."The excitable water elfen was now dropping several cubes of sugar into her tea. Just...So many sugar cubes."Hey yeah I've seen Tomina fight! She's real strong! Do you really think you can help her learn to control her power?"The matriarch would give a slow calm nod after taking a drink of her tea."Fire is just an element of nature. There is no element that can't be controlled. But if she wants to master it she will have to learn to turn that raging inferno in her heart into a gentle ember first."Aya sets her tea cup down carefully, causing a light clink to ring out into the room. She looks between all three of them as she speaks."Ayami is already fully aware of my training, she has been a part of it for well over ten years now. But you two...I don't know what kind of training you've received. What I am going to teach you isn't so straight forward. It is a grueling, painful course that will test your limits. This isn't about growing stronger. You may not reach new heights by undertaking my regime. But I will teach you to better control what you already have. If a spider can spin a thread that is invisible to the eye then I intend to teach you to control your powers in just the same way. Turning your energy from a wall of power into a fine thread of focused strength...That is the goal of my teaching. If you really believe you're ready then I won't waste time imparting my lessons on you. But tell me. What is it that brought you here?"The inventor was now taking several fast, joyous sips of her extremely sugary tea, grinning as she set the cup down."Well, you see we were at Penguin Village. And these tough guys were pushing around old people and I was like "HEY STOP!" and the guy was like "SCREW YOU" and then Tomina was like "I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS!" but Atsuko... Atsuko was just like "Please calm down." it was totally rad."... The matriarch stares at her daughter with a genuine expression of astonishment. That...Was the most absurd and nonsensical story she had heard."And tell me what exactly this anecdote of yours has to do with your predicament?"Ayami...Was busy downing the rest of her tea as the astute grandma asked a very good question. The water elfen slammed her cup down and nodded excitedly"Oh y'see that's the part I was just getting to! See we beat their asses real good. But then they said they'd be back! So...They're probably gonna bring their boss. And...Even though they were weak they had REALLY good control, this boss guy's probably a master himself. The bad news is we don't...Really know how much time we have until they come back."The elderly master listens intently to Ayami's ramblings, managing to pick up the needed context from that mess. She simply nods, rubbing her chin in deep thought."I see...So then time isn't on our side in this case. I can still help but I need to know you're willing. If you have limited time I can press the training harder to get results faster. But even for someone like Ayami who has been training under me for years...It will be a VERY difficult time. Even more difficult than normal. If I help you three, will you be willing to endure the pain and struggle for it?"The young inventor gives a solemn, stern nod. Suddenly her excited expression was replaced with a serious one."I've been waiting a long time for this. I'm not backing down. ... I can't afford to see anyone suffer." Atsuko Tomina

Seemingly against all the odds, they managed to convince the old master to train each of them... Or at the very least, to be invited inside for tea. Atsuko settled on that much for now, it was an opportunity to learn a little more about what she knew, in any case. She wanted to know how much knowledge of the Knights could be gained here. Even a seemingly innocent little fact could be an incredible clue right now. But... It also felt like her duty to preserve the legacy of the Order as well.
Making her way inside, it became easy to tell just how old but well-kept the place was. Definitely a lot like the Monastery she grew up in... What the old woman had to say at first was not the best of news for Atsuko. So, there were Knights that had fallen from grace... Perhaps that shouldn't be very surprising. But the exchange between her and Ayami did ease the Saiyan's doubts a little.
The following heavy silence only reminded her of how serious things were, though. Eventually they arrived at a sitting room, and as instructed, the Albino Saiyan would take a seat on one of the cushions with a practiced discipline. Her posture was impeccable, even in those armor and robes of hers... There was a lot to unpack in this conversation, and Atsuko thought it best to start by removing her helmet and gently setting it on the floor beside her. She then picks up the filled cup of tea in front of her, and gently blows on it to reduce the heat.
Afterwards, she takes a drink and then sets it back on the table. " It's excellent." , she states her compliment. Then takes a moment to compose her thoughts. Fortunately, attention was elsewhere at the moment, as the elderly woman began to address Tomina's concerns and power first, as well as the hardships she had been through.
Out of politeness, she allowed everything regarding that to be finished, and saw her opening to answer when the master asked what brought them all here." ... I didn't know that there were members of the Knights of Yama that succumbed to evil in such a way." , she finally begins to speak her mind. She pauses for a moment, looking to Tomina, then Ayami, and finally to the elder." For everyone's safety, it is best that my identity, and what I am about to say is not spread publicly." , she then states. Perhaps coming off a little more ominously than intended, but there was a reason for that. " I don't know if the rumors reached this island... But the Knights of Yama have been targeted by assassins. We've not been able to find any traces or evidence left behind from the killers. Anyone even remotely associated to the order has been wiped out, from what I have heard." The Saiyan considers how to best continue this particular topic. " Currently... I am the only active Knight. There is a probability that if those assassins learn that I am alive, they will come after me, too. I intend to be ready to face them when they do come." That explained why Atsuko had come here. Although Ayami recounted the events at Penguin Village, and gave a... Very rough summary of the events, to say the least. The Knight couldn't help but crack a small smile. " Just three thugs. Power wasn't anything special, but they had good technique, and they answered to some "Dom Remi". My suspicion is their boss is at least an expert within Martial Arts and Ki, if not a Master." The Saiyan then gives a nod at the elder's assessment that they didn't have much time to work with. " In many ways that is true for me. That is why I will accept any training. No matter how harsh, grueling, or demanding. I will absolutely find a way to push through it and come out better than before." There was a fiery determination in Atsuko's eyes, the kind that told you she wasn't bluffing when she said something like that. She didn't even flinch when the prospect of pain came up. " I can handle it. Don't hold back on me." One thing was certain, Atsuko was not lacking in confidence. It remained to be seen if the old master would find that refreshing, or foolhardy. She then looks over to Ayami and Tomina. She knew that the two of them were just as bound to go along with this. All three had their own reasons, but they were kindred spirits. It was why Atsuko relinquished her secrets and gave her identity away. Tomina knew most of this already.
But Ayami would be learning of it for the first time. " There is more for me to tell, but I would not be so rude as to hold us up from training. I'm ready to begin now." Ayami Tomina

Tomina had always been good at being able to read people. She always found that odd about herself. She didn’t exactly consider herself an intellectual. She grew up on the streets and she talked like it. So her language was crude, at best. And she wasn’t very good at making long term plans or strategy. If someone needed a math problem solved, she was not the person to call. But people, that seemed to come naturally for her.
Her red eyes shifted to the hands of the old woman. It hadn’t been for very long, but she had observed them trembling. It wasn’t in anger though, since she invited them in afterward. This person was very hard to read, even for her. But the words of everyone there had reached her in some way. She wasn’t yelling at her for being rude at least. Tomina followed her into their living space. No, she totally wasn’t jealous of the fancy decorations and big house. No, not at all.
Tomina caught Atsuko’s eyes when Aya started talking about the knights. She wanted to see if the talk about some of them falling to evil got to her. She teased her a lot about it, but Tomina knew how important knighthood was to Atsuko. Fortunately, she seemed to be dealing with her own stress much better than she was. Tomina didn’t have to say anything about the matter. If she was that resolved with dealing with these assassins, then a conflict was inevitable. And Tomina would fight alongside her when that happened. That’s all there was to it.
Tomina took a seat, crossing her legs and staring at the old woman, and explained how she could tell that she had been through a lot. Tomina thought she was good at hiding her pain. She didn’t like to focus on that stuff and preferred not to drag other people into her problems. She rubbed the back of her head.
“I guess suffering through life is a commonplace problem. Maybe having power doesn’t make you a monster. But what you do with it can easily make you one.”
Tomina took a cup of tea in her hands, looking down at the liquid and at her reflection. The liquid rippled, and she saw the orphanage burning. And just for a moment, she saw something else burning. The one thing that was forever etched into her brain. She grit her teeth then tilted her head and swigged down her cup in one gulp. She didn’t seem bothered by how hot the liquid was in the slightest. She put it down, looking at the old woman seriously.
“I wouldn’t have come here if I wasn’t prepared to go through hell and beyond. There are some things that you have to do. Not learning to control my powers isn’t an option. I don’t care if I can’t master it in time to face that gang. If I have to fight their boss without having mastered my powers, then so be it. I’m willing to go through anything you throw at me, no matter how long it takes. I have to get control of my powers. If I accomplish only one meaningful thing before I die, I want it to be that.”

As Atsuko removed her helmet the water elfen's eyes went wide in shock! She leaned across the table and looked at the albino's face in close detail."OH MY KAMI!!! ATSUKO YOU'RE..."The inventor brings her hands to her face in pure shock and gasps before she resumes speaking!"...BLONDE?! I thought you sounded like a brunette personally!"In response to this outburst the grandmother reaches across and slaps her granddaughter on the back of the head, causing the girl to let out a squeak and sit back down, rubbing the back of her head with a free hand."Ouchichichi...! Gramma what'd you do that for?!"The matriarch simply sighs, giving her child a side glance."We have visitors, be on your best behavior."The water elfen pouts for only a brief moment before going right back to grinning."Okaaayyyyy."The old woman took another sip of her drink as she looked between the trio. Aya gave a nod and a small smile as the albino saiyan complimented the tea. It was a compliment she heard often in regards to this. She hadn't just been raised to fight, she had been raised to follow all of her family's traditions - That included preparing tea."Thank you. I was taught by my mother, and she was taught by her mother. One day Ayami will learn this herself."The water elfen bounced excitedly in her seat as she watched her grandmother, her tea cup was shaking in her hand as though it was possessed by an angry spirit. All because she had a sugar rush going on right now...Aya looked at the other two with an exasperated expression on her face as she continued."... But it will be some time before I train her in the art of tea preparation."Aya listened to Atsuko speak. The knight was certainly curious about the history the matriarch had shared regarding those knights...But one thing the albino knight said caused the elderly woman to raise an eyebrow. So Micaela hadn't told her then..."I'm surprised you haven't."As if on cue her suspicions on who exactly Atsuko's mentor was are confirmed. So she WAS trained by Micaela...It made sense considering she was the only surviving knight of Earth's chapter, but hearing it from the albino herself helped to reaffirm that thought. The news she HADN'T heard yet was quite a shock to the old woman. The knights were being slain systematically, as if specifically targeted by someone with ill intent towards them...Only one person matched this. She rubbed her chin and took on a troubled expression."So...She's finally trying to finish what she started..."Ayami looked between them, grinning excitedly once she heard about this from the knight!"Ooooh, so is that why the military's bumped up their security so much?! I was wondering why they got spooked!"The matriarch looked up at the knight and gave a nod, the request for silence regarding this identity was accepted without issue. It wasn't like the old woman had any use for hidden identities anyway. And no one aside from people Aya could personally vouch for ever came to their home, it was simply too secluded for people to be able to sneak in unnoticed."No one will find you here. But I do require that you remove your armor for the training. Rest assured I'll give it back once you're finished. My training requires light clothing 'else the methods will be diluted."But as she listened to the halfling speak Aya could only sigh. Not because she was disappointed, or frustrated, or angry, but because what Tomina had said was all too true. The fact that suffering...Even in a universe that claimed peace reigned was common was a great concern."Unfortunately yes, even now suffering is a universal constant. That is why I offer free lessons to the islanders' children. If even one child knows how to control themselves or protect others then perhaps in some small way I can avert that suffering."The young inventor rested her elbows on the table, giving an excited nod filled with enthusiasm as she added in words of her own."And I help train 'em too! They're good kids."The old woman took on a concerned expression as she watched Tomina down the tea in a single gulp. She waved a free hand at Tomina."Oi. Careful, you'll hurt yourself. You look like you've just seen a ghost."But as the three each took turns speaking to just how prepared they were to endure the trials ahead of them, Aya could only lower her head, lost in thought. Each of them held unbreakable conviction in their own ways...But they all held different kinds of conviction. Ayami's conviction to make a world with no suffering, Atsuko's conviction to hold to her duty as a knight, and Tomina's conviction to control the fire inside of her so that she could live free of it's curse. If what they said before had broken through the old woman's steel heart, then what they were saying now completely shattered the barrier surrounding her mind. The matriarch looked up at all three of them, a determined expression painted her face as she began to speak."My name...Is Aya. For centuries my family have trained under the teachings of the Kamigoroshi no Shinken. TODAY I DECLARE! I SHALL ACCEPT THREE MORE INTO THE FOLD!!! Prepare yourselves, for you are going to travel through hell in order to combat that hell with your very hands! I will accept only a 'yes' in reponse!"The water elfen stood in excitement, pumping her fist and smiling cheerfully."YES!!!"The three of them were taken to a separate room of the home. Much like the sitting room they were in this room had green tatami covering the entirety of the floor space. However UNLIKE the sitting room this one was far larger in size and devoid of any decoration. In the center of the room sat a table with two cushions on opposite sides. On top of the table sat several cups of room-temperature tea. Unlike the fancy tea cups the four of them had drink from earlier these were tall, rounded, and wooden. Far less fancy but it was clear that in this situation any notion of "fancy" was pointless. The matriarch and the trio's current master sat on one side, looking up at them."Welcome to your first lesson. This will train your hand eye coordination as well as your reflexes. The rules are simple! The first one to splash their opponent with tea wins. Either opponent may cover the top of a cup with their palm. If this cup is covered you must move on to a different cup and try again! This exercise will require fast thinking under pressure, do not relent for even a second if you want to win! And, Ayami dear, I trust this goes without saying but...No using your water control. Now...Who's first?"The water elfen obviously wasted no time hopping up and down excitedly, waving her hand."Ooooh! Me first!! Me first!!!"The elfen bowed to her master and sat down on the cushion opposite to Aya. The elderly woman would give a nod signifying she accepted the challenge."Good thinking. As you're well aware of how this challenge works you'll make an excellent firsthand example for the newcomers. Ready? GO!!!"The two began to furiously back and forth each other grabbing cups and blocking said cups, the speed was impressive but it was clear that the matriarch had an edge. Ayami gripped a cup tightly and motioned to splash it at her opponent... But in the blink of an eye Aya splashed the young inventor first."GU-AH?!"Aya sighs before rebuking her granddaughter."You focused only on an opening and left yourself open as a result. Don't let your guard down just because victory is in sight. ONCE AGAIN!"The two resumed their back and forth from the start, this time Ayami didn't focus on the opening as she had before, but the old woman managed to block her before she could even grab her cup, and summarily splashed the elfen again!"Closer...But you telegraphed your movements. Don't allow me time to follow your eyes. You must be decisive! AGAIN!"The two resumed once more, just as they had the previous two times. It was impressive how quickly they sped through the motions, each one didn't give their opponent even an inch. Little by little the inventor was closing the gap between them! But just as Ayami reached for a cup...Her grandmother grabbed it first and in a swift sweeping motion splashed the elfen once again."You must be swift like the wind! It's time for my next opponent, we will rotate out after three rounds each. Who is next to take the challenge?"The matriarch handed the water elfen a towel to dry off with, and she gladly accepted it. Ayami stood up from her seat and began to towel off as she stepped over to rejoin her friends."Gramma's really not letting up today! Good luck you two!" Atsuko Tomina

... And just like that, all of the tense atmosphere had been eradicated. The Knight couldn't help but stifle a laugh as Ayami reacted to what Atsuko looked like without the helmet, the resulting smack of the head by her grandmother didn't help either. It was pretty clear how much the two got along, even if seemed like the elderly master was being way too strict on the Elfen." It's okay." , she assures the matriarch. " It was Ayami's first time seeing me, after all." Still, the mechanic was something else... All of that sugar, and now how jittery she was... The Knight couldn't help but give a somewhat nervous smile as the master claimed that Ayami had a long way to go for tea preparation. " Her heart's in the right place." Still, there came the truth that Atsuko had to remove her armor. She felt a little conflicted about this, but the assurance that no one would be able to find her here did put her heart at ease. She calmly rises from her seated position and begins to remove the armor now, setting it down neatly and organized out of the way. All the while, she was able to comment on the conversation as it continued. " That is true. The more people understand about these powers, the less they have to fear when they see or experience it." She gives a calm, approving nod. " Having the right mentors will ensure less bad eggs, too." , still... There were people like Dom Remi; and probably even worse than that one too. All of this preparation helped them to one day defend themselves against threats like that. Now clad in only the robes that were underneath her armor, she was just in time to listen properly to Aya's declaration.
And all that was needed in response was one thing... The Saiyan didn't hesitate, just like Ayami. Though her determination was different from the excitement that the Elfen felt. " Yes!" Eventually the group gathered in another room in the temple. Obviously it was meant for training, but the Saiyan wondered exactly what kind. This kind of place was much too small for fighting. The lack of dirt and damage only furthered that line of logic. Fortunately the old woman began to explain exactly what kind of lessons would be imparted here. So this was a test of finesse, reflexes, and fast thinking. You needed to be able to grab a cup fast, react to what your opponent was doing, and 'attack' all in uninterrupted motions.
That... Could be pretty difficult, especially against someone who was on an equal level to you, let alone a greater level. Still, the Knight wasn't one to back down from a challenge. She was about to accept the first challenge; but a certain Elfen on a sugar rush got to it before she did. The Albino Saiyan watched what unfolded closely, hoping to glean how it was done. That ended up being more difficult than first anticipated. There was one very clear master in this room, and she moved with speed and grace that was difficult even for Atsuko to follow.
Aya had obviously refined her technique to incredible levels. By her own estimation, she could manage roughly half of that kind of speed... That wasn't accounting for accuracy, either. No matter how hard Ayami tried, she couldn't close the gap, and after three rounds it was announced that they would be put on rotation.
Atsuko was the next to step forward, ready to try her hand at this. The Saiyan takes a seat at the opposite end of the table from Aya, and gives a calm nod. She would wait until Aya returns the nod, signifying that the challenge had started. Once that happened, she held zero hesitation and her power burst forth, she reaches for a cup and moves to splash the contents at the master!
If blocked, she would immediately switch onto the defensive, using both hands in an attempt to keep up with her opponent and block any counterattacks. The Albino Saiyan was counting on endurance working in her favor, which was likely to be a rookie mistake. She was waiting for her opponent to tire out so she could then capitalize on the opening that resulted. That meant she was focused solely on defense after the initial opening volley she tried for.
That was all assuming, of course, that Aya didn't just outmaneuver her entirely before Atsuko could even process what just happened. There WAS quite the power gap between them, after all... Ayami Tomina Notes: Ki Suppression broken, Atsuko's full PL of 180 is revealed!

Tomina threw back her head and laughed at Ayami’s reaction to Atsuko. She shook her head, putting her hand on her hip. “I don’t blame you for thinking she was a brunette. You took one look at me and thought she’d look similar to me. Surprise! We’re not related by blood.”
Tomina chuckled as Ayami and her grandma bickered a little. It was the type that people only had after being close for a long time. Unfortunately, the light-hearted mood could not last forever. Tomina laughed bitterly when Aya brought up the ghost.
“Honestly, I wish I had seen a ghost. There are worse things that can happen to people besides dying.”
Lucy had almost given in to being a demon, a monster unaccepted by society. It was why Tomina understood her. It was easier to give in to your hate than it was to try and hold on to yourself. Caring meant that you were going to put self-imposed suffering onto herself. Tomina couldn’t get rid of the guilt of what happened that night. That was why she could accept Lucy: even when the other girl nearly gave in to her impulses, she still hadn’t done anything as monstrous as she had. Flames were ravenous by nature, and the orphanage wasn’t the only thing they consumed that day.
Tomina decided to watch the training play out first before taking part in it. She crossed her arms, letting out a little snicker as Ayami got herself drenched. But she made sure to pay attention to the mistakes the other girl made. And was trying to come up with a strategy to confront the old woman in the cups. She watched as Atsuko employed her own tactics to deal with her.
“Atsuko is going for a fast tempo like I thought she would. She wants to try to rush Aya into a mistake. It’s a good strategy. I don’t know if it’ll work on her though.”
