Ayami mentioned that there was no way she could forget her and Tomina after everything they had gone through together, and Atsuko couldn't help but reminisce a bit herself after hearing that. Yeah, they'd managed to accomplish so much in a short amount of time together. It was pretty amazing to look back on! But they were far from finished with their adventures too. Case and point: the one they were on right now!
Still, the mechanic did feel the need to comment on one thing, and that was the opportunity to meet Micaela, and even learn more about the armor that came from her! Atsuko gives a responding nod. " Of course! I trust you with all of this information because I know you won't be careless with it. You've done plenty to help me with everything, too. It wouldn't be right to turn you away in light of all that." Ayami's deeds spoke for themselves, and the Saiyan didn't see a reason to go listing them all off, but if the Elfen really wanted to hear all of it, well... They did have some time to do that. But perhaps they would be more distracted with their great find; a small furnace-like structure with a blue flame. The young mechanic was the first one to start investigating the properties of this strange fire. The first and most obvious test was if it gave off heat -- and drawing close to it did certainly prove that.
But it also felt different from normal flame. For one thing, it didn't appear to be burning anything in particular, and it wasn't being blown out despite what was surely a very long time out in the open like this completely unattended. It raised many questions. But if there was going to be a way to figure out what to do with the flame... Atsuko had an idea. " Allow me." She kneels down and sets down her travel pack, and then begins to rummage through it. Eventually she pulls out an unlit torch, and then holds it in the blue flame. The torch soon comes alight with the blue fire, and then pulls it away from the brazier and holds it up, looking towards the flame that they could now carry. As for the original flame; it didn't look like it had weakened in the slightest." I guess now we have to find where this fire would go for the hideout. Want to start investigating that next?" , she asks for Ayami's input. Ayami

With all the preliminary tests performed with the examination of this strange blue flame Ayami could come to only ONE simple conclusion, the ultimate truth that had been reached by revealing that it was probably fed by a fuel source, it danced wildly, it could catch on flammable objects, and it WAS in fact hot! THE ULTIMATE CONCLUSION WAS...!"Yep, that's fire alright!"The elfen mechanic watched with baited breath as the albino knight procured an unlit torch, placing the head to the strange cerulean embers. It lit up immediately as one would have expected. It was...Strange. And the elfen switched from examining the machine's fire, to examining the torch's fire. The flame...It transferred effortlessly, and didn't seem to take away from the standing fire. Strangely this torch's flame carried the exact same properties as the other. It was baffling to say the least."That's rad!!!"Still...Now was the matter of finding where to place the flame. Obviously it was back at the hideout. But where..."Let's think about this logically. If you had a hideout and wanted to have a power source in it, you'd hide that too in case someone found the place uninvited right? But since it's a fuel system, it still has to connect to the rest of the place! So...We go back, and we start following the pipes in the other direction!"The young inventor had a simple logic going about her with this one. It was clear to her that they would have likely hidden the source. But this source still had to feed elsewhere, meaning there were still tells that the pair could follow. If they used these tells, they would find their fuel placement in no time at all. With that in mind Ayami started back towards the hideout, being sure to push aside the brush so Atsuko could escort the flame without setting the entire forest ablaze with mystic blue fire. They still had some time before they would arrive back at their destination...So the mechanic decided to probe the blonde saiyan on her history."So this Micaela...She's not your real mom right? But how'd you end up with her then? Do you know where your real parents are?" Atsuko

Ayami ended up stating the obvious; it was fire. Well... Yeah, that much could be deduced. But it was still pretty unusual from regular flame. " Perhaps it's easier to just think of it that way even though it's very different from what we're used to." , the Knight admits. This was a whole other mystery unto itself, and that meant that they would be far better suited to just move forward with their plans.
The Elfen made another logical deduction on where it was they might have to take this flame, and the Saiyan gives a nod. It only made sense to her that it might work in such a fashion. So, with that in mind, they would start walking back. Things were going better than expected so far! But they did have a lot of work to do; that was a good thing. Getting power back on was just going to be one step in the journey that was giving it all an overhaul.
If any two people could do that, it was Atsuko and Ayami. Along the way, they decided to just continue exchanging conversation. Not like they were in a rush and it was a good way to make the trip seem a bit faster. " Yeah, that's right. She adopted me. Although I've been with her for so long that I can't help but think of her as my real mom." The Saiyan replies with a small shrug. " I didn't know my real parents. I was sent to Earth when I was pretty young. I learned everything about them from stories, which mainly told me that they were in the Knights of Yama." , she begins to share the full story. " They had to send me off on my own because things started getting dangerous for the Knights. You already know about the mysterious killers, so..." She pauses for a moment. " The only real difference is that the crime scene involving their death was never found. Technically, they're Missing In Action, but it's been so long that they're assumed dead. All of this is why I was raised the way that I was." She then looks over to Ayami. " Also why I tell everyone to be careful with any information I give them. The possibility of becoming a target of those murderers is very distinct. They're strong enough to take out the galaxy's most capable warriors, so they can't be taken lightly." The atmosphere had gotten a little heavy and tense after Atsuko talked about all of that. She lets out a sigh in acknowledgement of that fact. " Not a very cheery story. But I want to carry on their legacy, and also defend Earth in the process." Ayami

It was a normal flame...And yet just as Atsuko had said it was different from what one typically thought of as "fire" too. It perplexed the elfen inventor in a positive way. Never before had she been challenged by "natural" elements in such a way. While she knew they had to focus on the task at hand, she made a mental note to come back and study this supernatural fire in greater detail in the future. If it could be transferred then it could be studied. And anything that could be studied for potential further use? Well, Ayami was ALL OVER that idea."Maybe! But I intend to crack that nut either way. Think of the potential applications for a fire that doesn't need fuel in the same way! We could power things using an unlimited resource! We could...We could use it for mood lighting!"... Although mood lighting was probably a gross misuse of this magical flame. But...The subject of Micaela, and more importantly Atsuko's past continued as they walked back to their destination. The young inventor kept eyeing the flame every couple of seconds before glancing back to the albino knight. It seems her attention was being split wildly between two objects, the mysterious pale fire that glowed an ethereal color, and the knight whose past was...Tragic to say the least. Although something curious came up. the saiyan's parents had only SEEMINGLY been killed...In truth there was no evidence that anything had even happened to them at all."So you're saying...You don't know what happened to them at all? Nobody does?"The mechanic's mind raced with possibilities. If it was just a missing persons case then there was still a chance it could be resolved happily! Although Ayami wasn't much of a forensics person, she DID have technology on her side. If anything could help solve this conundrum, it was the girl's ability to invent for almost any scenario imaginable. More than that though..."What I'm gonna say might sound crazy! But...I wanna help you find them! I know who we can turn to! I know just the guy! And...With my super fantastic inventions, we can cooperate!!!"Although it was easier said than done. After all she didn't even know where to start looking, or even what she was looking FOR...Still, she had someone in mind for the job, and she had the know-how to throw her tech smarts into the ring...It was an offer she simply couldn't refuse making. What's more...The Elfen girl performed a rude gesture with her arm, grinning as she looked to the saiyan. Although the rude gesture in this case was aimed at the assassins."You don't gotta worry about me! I can handle anything! Besides, how're you gonna become a hero the world needs with those creeps roaming around?" Atsuko

Ayami did raise a fair point, if they could figure out how this fire worked, it could probably be used to the advantage of a great many things on Earth. " Well, I don't have any objections to it. So long as we can figure out how to use it safely." , the Saiyan admits. Maybe the group had their own reasons for keeping the secrets kept, but she was sure that Ayami could come up with a way to use it safely. If not, then they'd only use it for this base.
Still... When it came to the subject of her parents, the Elfen couldn't help but ask her question regarding the mysterious fate of Atsuko's parents. It prompted a nod out of the Saiyan. " That's right. No one knows what happened to them." , she replies. It did mean that there was a chance, Atsuko wouldn't mind meeting them either; but she still had her home on Earth and nothing would change that. A reunion would be pretty nice, though.
Ayami seemed to be thinking on the same wavelength, when it came to resolving that particular mystery. " Really? If you know someone that can help, then maybe they can also help us in determining who the Assassins are! It sounds like we know what our next move should be!" , the Saiyan responds, now getting fired up about it. Although she does keep herself composed so as to not wave the torch or potentially drop it.
Atsuko couldn't help but smile as she saw the same enthusiasm in her friend when it came to facing those assassins. " Yeah, I know that for certain. You've gotten all kinds of strong, Ayami. Something tells me that you're only just getting started, too." Ayami wasn't exactly suppressing her power at the moment, after all. But even if she was, they had trained together, and the Elfen progressed at speeds that almost put Atsuko to shame. She could already see that the girl was going to end up passing her at this rate. It's not that the Knight was slacking off in her training or accepting her lot, but she could recognize someone else's potential too.
Ayami was packed to the brim with potential. " We should be getting close now. I bet you're excited to really dig into the technology they have in there, huh?" Ayami

Atsuko seemed to respond pretty well to the idea of reproducing this flame for use outside the hideout! With the natural caveat that was to be expected "As long as it was safe". Well that wasn't a problem of course! Ayami always thoroughly tested things before trusting anyone else with using them after all! ... Even if those tests were typically dangerous for the young inventor herself, but...Details!"You can count on me to test this innovation to its absolute limits before giving it to pregnant women and small children! Those are the ones companies always worry about for some reason so you see I said that because-"Oooh right! The saiyan's parents! Ayami had become so distracted with her promise that she didn't even realize! Well she certainly wasn't going to let THIS interesting tidbit slip by without further discussion! Atsuko confirmed that they were in fact just missing and not necessarily dead...So there was still a chance! It seemed like the albino knight wasn't all that against the idea of solving that mystery one way or another, and the mechanic was confident the result could only be positive! Even Atsuko of all people was starting to get excited! She seemed surprised that Ayami knew someone, and the elfen nodded her head eagerly."Yeah see, back when I used to go to high school, they had this career day thing, and well, there was this guy there. A private detective! He really seemed to know his stuff, although he was kinda scary looking too...The teachers kept panicking because he was smoking in school. That's badass don't you think?!"Ayami grinned innocently as if there was absolutely nothing wrong at all with what she had just said. ... Yeah she could be pretty air headed when it came to matters outside technology, and it really showed in moments like these. She was honestly what one would call an "Idiot savant". She continued on speaking on the matter however!"I dunno about the assassins, but if we could find more about them too then that's all the better! I can even invent some real rad gear to help the guy find all of these people!!!"The praise she received from the blonde knight was...Unexpected. Oh not because Atsuko was reserved when it came to compliments mind you, but rather because not so long ago the knight viewed herself as more than enough of a challenge for the young inventor. She chuckled, taking the praise in stride."Nyehehe~...You really think so? Of course I'm not gonna stop yet! I gotta make my Gramma proud! Besides...There are people I wanna be able to protect, too!"The next question really was undeniable, her answer was obvious before she even said it, Atsuko knew this pretty well by now. Ayami was more than ready to dive into exploring the technology installed in this hideout...And with it all being powered up there's no telling what they'd find inside. She nodded her head at the saiyan hundreds of times in mere seconds!!! To say she was excited would have been perhaps the world's greatest understatement. Atsuko

Well, Ayami certainly had the spirit, if not the full understanding of why certain precautions were taken when it came to testing something's safety. But the Knight chose not to try and elaborate as to why; if the Elfen already knew that it was necessary, then that was all that needed to be said. " Thanks, Ayami. I hope that it might prove useful in some way to you." , she stated her affirmation. Overall, things were progressing fairly well.
After that, the Elfen started to talk about this person she knew. Namely, they fancied themselves to be a Detective, and if they also had some of Ayami's gadgets to work with... The Saiyan starts to nod. " I see. Well if you're vouching for him and his capabilities, then I'd say it's worth getting into contact with him when we have the opportunity to do so." , she replies, admittedly a bit curious about this individual. From first impressions, it sounds like he might not really have gotten along with the Elfen.
But maybe the Albino Saiyan was wrong about that too. Still, the elephant in the room is that trying to find the assassins was going to be just as hard -- if not harder. In truth, there were no real leads on either particular problem... " Anything he can find at all would help, I'm not expecting him to be able to find all the answers like they're conveniently under a rug." The conversation then moves to Ayami's rapid progress as a fighter. The reason for why became clear; she had her own people to protect. Yeah, that was a pretty powerful motivator... It made Atsuko want to redouble her own efforts for the same reason. " That's a good reason to want to get stronger! If you ever need help with that, you're welcome to ask for my assistance. I'd be glad to help you with training." She might not be able to teach her anything like Aya could, but two strong fighters practicing with each other could only lead to improvements for the both of them. And speaking of improvements, they were finally back at the cave, heading into the hideout... It was time to start on one of their largest projects yet." So, we should start with the pipes like you said. Lead the way, Ayami." , the Knight offered, already certain that the Elfen would gladly take the lead even without Atsuko offering it. The mechanic's excitement when it came to discovering new or lost technology was boundless. This was a very real gold mine for her! Ayami

The saiyan showed gratitude towards the young inventor's preparedness when it came to field testing things before actually relying on them in a real practical scenario. It was something that neither of them could really argue against. Ayami might have been reckless, but she wasn't going to put others at risk if she could avoid it. It was simply the way she had been raised. Although even if she hadn't, something in her likely would mold that into her morality anyway. That this invention could be useful would be an understatement however."Are you kidding?! A fire that burns endlessly and transfers it's properties to anything flammable?! Something this revolutionary could change so many things!"But the conversation had drawn on to something far more important. Atsuko seemed to trust this private detective the young elfen was vouching for, if...A little reluctantly. With the greenlight given Ayami gave the albino knight a thumbs up. They just needed a moment of free time to go tracking this guy down and they'd be able to start their search. With any luck not only would Atsuko receive the answers she has been seeking in regards to her parents, but they would also come one step closer to hunting down the elusive assassins! The very idea was thrilling."We're gonna become real life detectives!!! It'll be just like in the mystery novels I used to read as a kid, yahoo!!!"They both understood however that no matter how good this guy turned out to be - He wasn't going to be a miracle worker. He would only be able to solve what he had clues towards. But even still..."Yeah but he's like...The best of the best probably! Why else would he show up at my old school? I remember his name as clear as crystal too! It was...Uh... ... Uhm..."The inventor fell into an awkward silence, glancing over at Atsuko with a blank expression on her face before finally answering."...I forgot his name."She raised a finger to stop the knight from interjecting for a moment as she continued however!"BUT!!! I'm sure they kept records of that event! We just gotta go visit my old school and get 'em!"This was completely ignoring the fact that a school was likely to ever hand out records to just anyone and everyone, but that was a problem for another day! The elfen mechanic's eyes sparkled as the saiyan knight offered to assist with training...It was sure to be effective!"That's a great idea!!! You can ride on my back while I run through a swamp! It'll be just like that one old movie; Space Conflict!!!"As they stepped into the cave's entrance their casual conversation was sadly cut short. HOWEVER, it did mean it was time for the inventor to do her own brand of magic once more! When Atsuko gave the signal for her to lead the way, Ayami shot off like a rocket, chasing a trail completely unseen to the saiyan! She tapped on the walls, leaving an ear firmly pressed to listen for echoes! She followed the trail of hollow taps all the way up to a dead end...Or so it seemed. The elfen ran her fingernails along the wall, looking for any cracks at all, an unpleasant scraping noise was cut short as her nail submerged deep into a crevice in the wall, revealing that there was SOMETHING here that was intended to move in some way..."You've got the magic glove thingy, try touching this wall like it was your crush or something!"...Despite her very blunt turn of phrase, it was clear that she wasn't saying this just to fluster the knight. Her thought process was sound - If Atsuko was able to open the entrance with a touch, then perhaps any secret passages were the same way? Atsuko

Ayami pointed out that a fire with this kind of property attached to it could practically revolutionize the world. The Saiyan had a bit of trouble wrapping her head around that kind of concept, but considering the base they were working on together now... " Yeah. I'm looking forward to what all you can do with it. The Knights figured out how to use it safely, so I'm sure you can too." , she admits. The Knight was placing a lot of trust into the Elfen, but somehow she knew that things would work out in the end all the same.
The mechanic also starts to get overly excited about the idea of being detectives; to an extent, the Saiyan could relate on that. There was a thrill in solving crimes, stopping the bad guys and helping people. She might not be very familiar with the novels that Ayami grew up with, but the concept was basically the same as Atsuko hearing all these stories and legends about Knights. " Guess that means we'll have to make sure we're the best that we can be at it, huh?" , she replies.
Speaking of the best, Ayami did insist that the guy she knew was really good at his job -- the idea of it being self-proclaimed or not was still a bit up in the air, but if Ayami trusted him, Atsuko could do the same. Although... When the Elfen mentions that she doesn't remember his name, it prompts the Saiyan to say something; she doesn't quite get the chance before Ayami gestures in interruption and follows up with that not mattering.
They'd just have to go to her old school and get the records, huh? Atsuko wondered if it would be that easy, admittedly. " Hmm... Definitely something for us to do later, then. We'll have our hands full right now as it is." , the Saiyan decided, putting a pin into that particular subject for later. For now, they had a renovation project to finish, and this was probably the most unreal one yet. Nothing else like it on Earth, and anyone that could really give them tips was no longer around.
It was like trying to bring back a lost civilization. Either way, Ayami also mentioned that she would be glad to train with Atsuko. Albeit in her own... Unique fashion in regards to what that might be like... " I... Have to admit I'm not familiar with that movie." , the Saiyan states.
Their conversation had been able to go on because mainly they were just investigating the place where this blue flame might go. But all of it was suddenly halted as the Elfen proclaims her findings and insists that Atsuko gives it a shot... In the most embarrassing way possible that Atsuko could think of. Really? Touch it like a crush?
The Saiyan takes a moment to psych herself up and then steps over. " ... Alright..." , the Knight begins to turn her head away as she reaches towards the wall. Finally, she manages to grab hold of something." ... Huh, it doesn't really feel like a solid wall." , she gives it a few probing squeezes. " It's delightfully soft..." All of a sudden, she hears a familiar voice call out. " Thanks~" Atsuko withdraws her hand and looks towards the wall with a flushed face. She catches the tail-end of a portal closing. " T-... That was... Rumia....?!" She manages to struggle out in her shock. That left the question of what it was she grabbed, then...
The Saiyan shakes her head, regathering her composure. Right, if she focuses this time... She reaches towards the wall once more, and this time manages to grab hold of the mechanism. A glowing light travels across the panel, highlighting the means in which it might open, and after she pulls her hand away, a slight rumble before it begins to retract into the ground shows that to be the case.
Now they could get inside and see what was waiting for them. " Okay... It's open now." Ayami

The elfen inventor noticed Atsuko's hesitance and gave her a nudge in the right direction. With a grin the elfen girl began to explain that it wasn't really what the saiyan had been thinking. It was more a turn of phrase than anything!"C'mon it'll be fine! I don't mean literally!"With the saiyan knight finally biting the bullet and starting to check the wall for any opening mechanisms, Ayami is able to draw her attention away for a moment in order to check her tools. After all, a good mechanic always ensures their gear is ready for anything! As she digs through her pouch she hears Atsuko making...Rather odd comments. "Delightfully soft"?"Are you sure you're grabbin' the right thing Suko? Doesn't really sound like a wall to me. Unless they changed the materials when I wasn't lookin'."She just continued to dig through her bag, checking each tool carefully to ensure it was all there, completely oblivious to what was going on right in front of her. All at once the albino knight reacts with a shocked tone of voice that she just witnessed Rumia! The young mechanic turns to look and sees...Nothing but a wall. She chuckles, assuming this was some kind of elaborate joke."Why would the patron deity be on that wall? C'mon Suko you're stalling aren't you! It's a funny joke but we've got work to do!"... Luckily for Atsuko's sake Ayami had entirely missed the scene of her copping a feel on her crush. The wall panel began glowing and fell open exactly as the elfen inventor had anticipated! She clicked her tongue and grinned brightly at her spot-on detection skills being proven S-tier yet again."Bingo. Well, let's not keep this power supply waiting! We've got a hidden base to get operating again!"She glanced to the saiyan knight and gave a nod before stepping through the threshold between the interior of the base and this hidden location beyond the wall...What met Ayami's eyes was a deep chasm from which the bottom couldn't be seen. All along the natural cave walls water dripped down, showing that there was a LOT of moisture in here. The ceiling was made from the same glowing material that the interior of the base had, ensuring this area wasn't totally pitch-black. The young inventor stepped closer to the edge, peering down at the seemingly bottomless depths below."...Wow, watch your step I guess! I would have never guessed this was hiding right behind the wall!"The entire area was...Massive to say the least. It was as if the chasm went on for miles, never once getting any closer to the surface above. The entrance was a hanging walkway which led over to a more open area, a massive platform with a brick wall off to the side. This brick wall had a closed gate on the front...At first glance it seemed as simple as just breaking the gate down. They were both strong after all. But with a closer inspection one would take notice that this seemed to be of the same steel as the armor the albino saiyan wore. It was durable, but not only that it was far thicker than the armor plating. The elfen approached the gate and gave the bars a solid rap, confirming that they were simply too thick."If we tried breaking this thing open I feel like we'd cause a cave-in long before we made any meaningful progress..."Ayami tugged on the bars with a tight vice grip, checking to see if perhaps they were unlocked and easy to open. ... unfortunately three hard pulls revealed this to not be the case."... And seeing as this thing is locked tight I guess we had better find a way to open it. See there?"She crouches down, pointing to the base of the gate where it attached to the floor."There are mechanisms here. Means we gotta find some kind of switch. I'm guessing they wouldn't have built a place this elaborate if it was as simple as a lever sitting on a wall either. Chances are whatever's behind here is what we're looking for. It's where I'd lock a generator if I didn't want someone messing with it!"Ayami stepped around the side of the sealed cube, taking note of how the pathway continued on past their locked box. What met her eyes was an elaborate area, a waterfall rolled over a pathway that was now sloped towards the chasm's depths, threatening to drop anyone who tried walking across it. What's more, there were solid steel spheres occasionally rolling out from the top of the waterfall, sliding down the slope and dropping into the depths below. At the end of this platform it rolled back into being level again, and the path ended at a bowl shaped platform that seemed large enough to house one of these steel spheres."... Any ideas about how to proceed?" Atsuko

There was a lot that Atsuko wanted to unpack right now. Like Ayami being criminally unaware of what just occurred; right down to apparently not even hearing Rumia. But, she chose to let it go for now. The Knight would just have to have that talk with the Kai later... Right now they needed to keep their focus, and she had a feeling that trying to convince Ayami of what happened would take far too long and ultimately not really change anything. " Right..." , the Saiyan said.
At least they were making steady progress. With the door now out of the way, they could step inside and see what lay before them; a chamber with a massive chasm that seemed to go on forever into the darkness below. The Albino Saiyan couldn't help but peer down it just like Ayami was. " A lot of care went into making this place... It looks like they had plenty of room for further expansion, too." Something to keep in mind, in any case. How well it would work next to the power source was up for debate, but that was something to worry about far into the future. Right now the initial base would be plenty large enough for the small list of recruits that Atsuko was entertaining. Setting their sights back onto the walkway, they soon come to a gate that was built sturdy enough to withstand anything they could throw at it.
While she didn't have the same kind of investigative process as Ayami did, she could tell by looking at it that this was built to stand up to someone with a hell of a lot of power going on a rampage. " It's probably an intentional design. Either they get in the right way, or not at all." Bringing the whole place down on top of them and their enemies might seem extreme; but if they wanted to keep all of this from falling into dangerous hands, then it was an excellent way of ensuring that fact. Ayami's next bet was to try pulling it open; but that didn't get much farther. If they wanted to go any further, they had to figure out how to open it. Fortunately, the Elfen already had some working theories in that regard, pointing out her findings." That all makes sense to me. They're a highly secretive bunch, so we'll just have to play along with it properly." , the Knight responds, and then follows along with Ayami in order to see what options they had.
It didn't take long for the Elfen to ask what to do next. The Knight thinks it over for a moment, staring at what was going on here. It was a lot to take in, but she could tell that there was something that needed to go into the bowl-like hole in the platform. She proceeds to point that out. " We're supposed to get something in there... But I don't think one of those spheres will do the trick." The Knight looks up at the top of the slope, trying to see if anything was up there. " Maybe the solution is waiting for us up there." The Knight then looks to Ayami. " So. You wanna try clearing it, or would you like me to go for it?" , she asked. She was fine with either way. But she wasn't just going to dive in without giving Ayami the chance to choose. Ayami

Atsuko made a fair point, with a natural cave this large one could build as many expansions as they wanted. Even if one ran out of horizontal space there was MORE than enough vertical space. Although the elfen inventor couldn't help but shiver as an errant thought passed her mind due to peering into the inky void below."Yeah...I just hope nobody's fallen down there. I don't think anyone's surviving a fall from this high up."Still...This was no time to be getting cold feet and backing out. They had a job to do. As a loyal employee of Capsule Corp Ayami was always dedicated to seeing every job she took on all the way to completion! Atsuko started to note that it was definitely an intentional design choice, perfect for deterring intruders by causing a cave-in. Although the young mechanic pointed out how it was even easier than that."If you wanna take them out just blast a couple of load-bearing points and this entire thing will go crashing down into the chasm. This whole platform is suspended. I'll uh...Leave that to you though..."...Ayami wasn't in a particular hurry to drop herself into a pit with potential enemies, if anything she was actually somewhat afraid of heights...At least, when she couldn't see the bottom of the drop she was. Perhaps it was more a fear of the unknown than simply a fear of heights. Either way the dark void below them left her with unsettling feelings of dread. She hoped that they could get their work wrapped up quickly so that they could return to the rest of the base in short order.... At least the knights' puzzle left her with a well-timed distraction. She gave a nod when the albino saiyan finally conceded that they would have to play along with what they were being tasked with doing. Although...What they were being tasked with doing was a bit of an unknown in this case. A short investigation made it clear they had to place something in that slot, but as Atsuko pointed out, these balls that rolled down were not what went there. Their attention was drawn to the top of this precarious slope. There was definitely something up there if this was the source of all that rolling. The saiyan knight suggested Ayami take point given that her affinity was at play."You want me to take care of it?"The inventor cracks her knuckles and steps forward."Leave it to me!"She steps out onto the flowing water, forcing it to part around her. She looked back at Atsuko and motioned for the knight to follow. And so began their journey upwards. Ayami forced the flow of the water to push the steel balls in another direction, routing them AWAY from the two girls. It wouldn't do to get crushed by one of those...Or worse, pushed off. The climb was surprisingly uneventful due to Ayami's control over water. It seems this puzzle was intended to be FAR more difficult."... I guess your people didn't expect someone like me, huh?" Atsuko

Atsuko could understand Ayami's concerns; but there was one important thing to keep in mind here. " They were probably capable of flying. You are too, aren't you?" , the Knight comments, hoping to ease the fears. Either way, things kept moving along.
Such as the Elfen pointing out that all it would take to really bring this place down is to hit a few load bearing points, and.... That's all she wrote. The Knight gives a nod at that, crossing her arms. " True. Even so I get the sense that would be a last resort, hence why it's hidden so well. From what I can tell this place can hide energy too. It would explain why they could train here but not draw any attention to themselves." That out of the way, there was the little matter of the trial in front of them. They had to clear their way through both the water and the falling spheres. That looked to be easier said than done, but Atsuko was willing to give it a shot regardless. Still, she did offer for Ayami to handle it, and the girl was eager to show what she could do. It soon became clear that the ability to control water was kind of like a cheat skill for this..." It seems that way. But considering how many layers of security they had, I guess this can be forgiven." , the Knight admits; and this was definitely a lot safer. If a bit disappointing. She thought this would make for a perfect chance for some high intensity training. Buuuut, clearing it with ease and staying focused on the task at hand was more preferable.
Besides, nothing would stop her from training later, once all of this was sorted the way it needed to be. " Still, maybe we shouldn't speak too soon. We're not done here yet." Now that they were getting closer to the top, there was a raised platform that had another large sphere -- similar in size to the ones that they were avoiding on the way up. But the make was entirely different, more in line with the technology of the rest of this place. That and it was glowing with orange runic patterns. Much like the bowl-shaped hole back at the bottom of this slope..." Looks like that's the key there." , Atsuko comments upon spotting this new find. " Well. Since you're taking care of the water, I'll handle this part." With that, the Saiyan springs into action, jumping up towards the giant ball and beginning to move it. Despite how large and heavy it was, she was moving it with ease -- even more than that, she was keeping up with it despite the slope and gravity working against her. It all comes to a clutch moment near the bottom, where she kicks it hard towards the lock.
With a slight flight towards it, it rolls to a stop and a loud clunk and a rumble seals it into place. The color of both the ball and the hole it sat in then changed color to a bright blue, and she could already hear the gate grinding open." Well, shall we?" , she then directs to Ayami. Ayami

The saiyan knight helpfully pointed out that anyone coming in here was likely capable of flight and thus not at risk of taking an awful fall. That went a long way to help ease the young mechanic's mind, knowing that there likely haven't been any accidents in here... ... Although Ayami immediately flinches once Atsuko asks if she was capable of flying too. She stood in silence for a good moment before responding."W...Well, about thaaattt..."... The truth was no, Ayami actually couldn't fly. Surprising for someone with her skill level, but no one in her family had ever learned the techniques to allow for flight despite their incredible skill. She was land-locked, and so was her Grandmother, and most of the students that came to her grandma for instruction. As far as she knew she was incapable of flight, though perhaps this simply came from a lack of teaching. She cleared her throat awkwardly as the subject changed onto the fact that this entire base likely had some kind of energy "sealant". Like a barrier? It was a curious thought...Was it active right now or did it need energy first? It was a fair assumption given everything they knew, and it was something that immediately drew the elfen's curiosity. Something that could hide energy signatures without the need for suppression on the individual's part was ingenious...Ayami made a mental note of that concept so that she could look into it for her own uses later. That aside...Atsuko actually seemed pretty disappointed about how easy this was. The elfen inventor chuckled lightly."Aww it's not so bad! Look, this way it's just safer right? Besides if you want a real test then I can make something like that for you! ... Maybe I could even...Hmmm...Yeah that's not a bad idea at all..."The young mechanic had been hit like a ton of bricks by a wave of inspiration, she took out her notebook mid-travel, scribbling in it while mumbling to herself."if I change the trajectory there and add some of those...And then this...AHA!"She turned her head to look back at the knight, a grin was plastered on her face and her eyes practically sparkled, yeeep...She was definitely inspired to invent something useful."I'm gonna turn this area into a high-spec obstacle course when we're done here! You're gonna get that push you're lookin' for in no time!!!"The fact that she recognized what Atsuko was looking for with only body language to go off of, and that she was able to think up such a in depth invention on the fly all while focusing on something else went a long way to show just how adaptable and full of ingenuity Ayami was. Finally they had reached the top, and waiting for them there was a different sphere perched on a holding platform, clearly their ticket to opening that gate. Atsuko took charge and the albino saiyan wasted no time taking care of this oversized key. The elfen was content to simply keep assisting with the water flow, allowing the ball to roll exactly where they needed it to. It took no effort at all for the albino knight to kick it right into the bowl which carried the unlocking mechanisms. In an instant the lights on both objects changed color and a loud series of clicks and whirs indicated that the path forward was opening."Well! That was easier than I expected!"The young mechanic gave a nod as the knight insisted on them getting right to the goal they were after. She hurried down, ensuring nothing hit either of them on the way. As she headed for the chamber which had been opened she turned back to look at Atsuko."Since you've got the fire I guess you had better lead the way! We're almost there!!!" Atsuko

Huh, Ayami didn't know how to fly? Atsuko made a mental note of that for later; that was something she could assist the Elfen with later on. She'd talk about that later, though. They kind of had their hands full with getting through all of this and getting back onto the kind of ground that Ayami was more comfortable with as well. That being said, the mechanic's mind was already working on overdrive; filled with new inspiration as she started to note down a means of training involving this trial.
Evidently, to make it way more demanding... Atsuko was pretty excited for that. " That sounds good to me. I'll be putting it to a good test later on." , she responded. The Saiyan could already see some ways for this to work perfectly for the kind of training that she liked to do. If Ayami knew of a way to make it even better... She was all for that idea. If she wanted to be able to keep up with her 'rival', and get the kind of strength necessary to keep Earth safe, then she would need to push herself beyond all limitations.
The actual process of getting the sphere where it needed to go was pretty easy. Ayami's water control made it a total non-issue and at that point it was just a matter of Atsuko's own skill to land it where it needed to go. Ayami mentioned that this was easier than expected, and Atsuko couldn't help but mirror the sentiment. " Yeah. But I guess that means we don't have to waste a lot of time trying to figure this out instead of getting through the renovations." With all of that said and done, Ayami insists that Atsuko leads the way, and the Knight does just that, proceeding through the now opened gate into the chamber that housed the generator for this whole facility; and it was quite an unusual generator. First, the room itself was constructed partially out of darker material, but was nonetheless lit up with by the ceiling. Straight ahead were some stairs leading up to a raised platform.
And atop that platform was a pedestal that housed a giant blue gem. However, it was as though the crystal had lost it's luster; the color had faded and dimmed. Moving up the stairs would show that the pedestal it rested on was engraved, but also that there was a small opening with a brazier in it. Already knowing what to do, she brings the torch towards the brazier, and it soon comes alight with the blue flame.
The engravings on the pedestal begin to light up. The designs now glowing blue and gradually filling up towards the gem that sat above. Once the two made contact, the gem began to shine brightly. A soft hum builds up until it feels as if the entire place had sprung back to life. But then the noise drops back down to normal levels, the hum not even registering as background noise now.
Around them, protrusions and structures that were previously unlit now gave off a soft blue light; power was back on now, and it seemed as though that this whole place used something a lot more magical instead of electrical -- or even thermal based!" Well... I think that's done it. Let's head back and see if anything else has changed." , the Knight states, now turning to the Elfen. Although, since they did come this far... " Oh, after you check all of this out, I mean. I know you want to take notes." Atsuko adds with a smile.[Image to give a rough idea of the Generator Room] Ayami
